Cimmerians were landlocked.  Do they count?

Looks like I barely write high fantasy epics then!  L:-) :hide:

* Something that has happened so far throughout human history, isn't happening this time.

* Certain members of the Cadre are displeased with something very naughty the protagonist did. They all appear to have died recently tho, and for reasons nothing to do with her.

* Someone filling a broadly bardlike role is providing occasional comedy relief. He was invited along by the protagonist, partly as an expendable trap-tester. (Redshirt joke included, with in-universe reference.) His method of earning a living before showing up in the story is unclear.

* There is trouble at a Tower, but hardly anyone knows that yet, and everyone who is going to the Tower is out to make trouble. The protagonist hopes to capitalize on the trouble she heard about recently, by looting the place.
