I have been spending some quality time with "Dawn of Defiance."

There are probably a baker's dozen first person survival / crafting / base-building / foraging games out there.

And they are my catnip... :Nerd:

DoD is another face in the crowd. The game is set in a mythological Greek setting. It emphasizes hunting, foraging, base building and crafting. But there are quests, and plenty of combat. But no hoard attacks on your base like in Seven Days to Die.

The environment is pre-generated. The atmospherics are sometimes quite good. For example entering the "Dark Woods" for the first time is very creepy, while desert sandstorms are frightening.

But ultimately, the game shows its Early Accessness. While the early and early-mid game are satisfying, later-on, lack of content and some subtle balance issues start to strain the players initial excitement. I have reached the point where I will put it aside for now and wait for updates. But I do think the game has potential.

If like me, you like this kind of game, I'd say give it a whirl. But if you are not sure, or want to restrain your Steam game list, I think there are better options with more mature games in the genre.

It can be played satisfyingly as a single player? PvE as the kids say?

From what I've seen, more like Valheim than 7DtD.

Yes, that is how I have been playing. No problems / issues with that.

Agree. More "chill" than 7DtD. In DoD you really only get into trouble when you are looking for it. While in 7DtD, trouble is always looking for you.
