Quote from: ArizonaTank on October 04, 2024, 08:01:05 AM"Aska" is not the first FP 3d village management game. "Bellwright" (medieval Europe themed), "Sengoku Jidai" (medieval Japan themed) and "This Land is My Land" (American Wild West themed) all came before "Aska," and are strong games themselves.

But in my mind, "Aska" is the best of the lot.

I think you meant to reference Sengoku Dynasty here...  Sengoku Jidai is a turn-based wargame with no kind of village management.

The next HOI 4 DLC has been announced: Götterdämmerung and it's out on November 14th. Some comments are calling it the 'Wolfenstein' expansion.

-Special Projects: development of experimental technology and super-weapons

-Raids: precision strikes against specific targets like major oil fields, dams, experimental facilities

-The Inner Circle: people at the head of the Nazi party can rise and challenge the leadership

-Reichskommissariats rework

-Austria, Hungary, Belgium, Germany, Congo Focus Tree expansions with alternate history options

Joan Baez's cover just never came close IMHO.

The clip is sad. Watching Robbie Robertson (who is now gone), talk about losing Levon Helm.

As far computer gaming, will probably spend some quality time with Aska.

For anyone interested in these things, there's a link to Google Translate English to Latin for your dynasty mottos and an interesting article on family crest design:

Grogheads roughly translated is Cervisia Capitibus.

The Band, 1976.

I'll be doing Burden of Command work, as well as Fight Club work.  I've been tied up with a lot of projects, so not as much time doing gaming. I aspire to sneak in some Rule of the Waves 3, CMO, Dangerous Water and/or Warplan and Combat Mission.  But I'm not hopeful actually accomplishing it.

[Edit: Youtube doesn't want to play the video at the proper time hack.  Try this https://youtu.be/x35l1IxU9dg?t=60}

Some more hours in...Yes, better than "Valheim" IMHO. While "Aska" is FP (First Person) and definitely a base-building game, comparing "Aska" and "Valheim" is a little bit apples and oranges. "Valheim" is solo or multi-player with no AI NPCs. "Aska" is mostly about managing your NPC AI villagers. The big tasks in "Aska" revolve around keeping your village from starving or freezing to death in winter. Also, building your defenses so that you can defeat the occasional bear or undead attack.

Like the best games in the genre, "Dwarf Fortress" or "Rimworld" as examples, "Aska" manages to give the villagers personality. In "Aska" you learn your villager's names, their strengths and weaknesses. You feel bad when your cheerful, hardworking fisherman gets clobbered by a rampaging bear. But unlike the 2d "retro" games, "Aska" is in a beautiful 3d environment, that changes with weather and the seasons, nicely suspending disbelief.

"Aska" is not the first FP 3d village management game. "Bellwright" (medieval Europe themed), "Sengoku Jidai" (medieval Japan themed) and "This Land is My Land" (American Wild West themed) all came before "Aska," and are strong games themselves.

But in my mind, "Aska" is the best of the lot.

They probably built the boat with hollow concrete pylons, using a substandard cement mix. And the hollow centers were filled with trash glass.

China has A LOT of experience doing that, though, so by now you'd think they'd be competent at it.
