There was quite a bit to cover on the Campaign Series ongoing work update, lots of goodies in the works. I'm beyond grateful we're still making progress! After that, we continued into the second Hue scenario and the ebb and flow of city combat. The Marines aren't faring very well, but we did managed to get some reinforcements. I did notice a landing zone was MIA, so will need to do some edits. It's easy to see why this battle lasted so many weeks, the urban fighting is brutal!

I had some friends over for a game day yesterday.  I'm a crusty old Gen Xer and they're millenials and zoomers. When we have game days, they take over my spotify account and play random stuff.

Normally, I'm ok with it but yesterday's selection was...well, let's just say if anyone questions why it was good that the Axis powers lost WWII, I present this song as evidence as to why Germany and Japan had to be defeated.  This is a collaboration between some German weirdos (Dieter from Sprockets was supposed to be satire, not something to emulate) called @Electric Callboy and Japanese "band"/sweaty fan service group Babymetal.

The result should be cause for a reopening of trials at Nuremburg.

I present to you,

I would guess the population of all gamers has expanded AND more of the expansion is in less strategy-oriented
gaming.

But that's just a guess.

It is too bad that they only give fluffy numbers.

I would be interested to know whether the absolute number of gamers with an interest in strategy stayed the same, and this groups lower percentage is caused by casual gamers joining the gaming market.

Utter madness. If they keep up with this 1k+ per day rate they have going on at the moment, they will hit a million by the end of next year. Sheesh.

I get that they're looking at a demographic dead end in the next ten years, so their only hope is to go now even if it cripples them (further) in their industry and infrastructure.

But I wish they would commit to trying NOT BEING RUSSIA for a while.  :buck2: They have so much wasted potential to be not only good but awesome, even as a distinct nation-state, but their governmental system doesn't even believe in being good (whether morally or otherwise), only in pretending to be good (ditto) as a marketing ploy. So they have persistently ruined whatever good, potentially or actually, there has ever been in being Russia per se. And if they can make their neighbors suffer worse than they inflict upon themselves, then hey proportionately that makes them better, right?

Ukrainian and Russian sources stated that Ukrainian forces are increasingly contesting the tactical initiative in northern Kharkiv Oblast and characterized Russian operations in the area as defensive, although Russian forces are likely attempting to bring the Northern Grouping of Forces up closer to its reported planned end strength before possibly intensifying offensive operations in the area.
The likely premature start of Russian offensive operations appears to have undermined Russian success in northern Kharkiv Oblast.
Russian forces continue to leverage their sanctuary in Russian airspace to strike Kharkiv City to devastating effect, likely as part of efforts to depopulate the city and demoralize Ukrainians.
Russian electronic warfare (EW) capabilities reportedly impacted the effectiveness of select Western weapon systems in Ukraine in 2023 as Ukraine and Russia continue to compete in a technical offense-defense race.

Yeah, I was watching footage yesterday of artillery striking a 'hypermall' in Kharkiv itself, at the peak customer hour. Truly a "Jesus Christ, Russia" moment.  :nono2:

I'm not sure the Russian offensive was premature so much as an opportunistic probing operation attempting to push while there was mush -- which then, when Ukrainian defensive units started holding ground, morphed into a gradual commitment of more Orks figuring that the main push would be a waste and wasn't ready yet anyway but something ought to be done there to keep at grips with the Uks....

...and now the prep and power of a good chunk of the gathering Russian attack has been blunted and wasted. Boiling the frog slowly to get him to jump out of the pot doesn't always work.

Aside from that minor disagreement, which may not even be a disagreement but a difference in phrasing, I'm gratified to see that I reached a similar result as the ISW!

But Ukraine (for whatever it's worth) says the Russian casualty list has now passed 500K since the war began. Whether this will trigger or catch the main Russian attack off foot, don't know yet.

Computer Gaming / Gray Zone Warfare: the Game
Last post by MengJiao - May 26, 2024, 06:32:53 AM
This came out on steam recently as a pre-Alpha (whatever that means).  For me at least it runs
well.  I'm sure they will fix the game up so that people like me won't have as much fun running around
randomly scavenging things with no more gear than what they can carry in their pockets, but for now, it's
pretty perfect.
Oh so...what's so good about it?  Nice landscape.  Fun helicopter rides that you can just jump on and go
where-ever.  Cool selection of weapons and such.  Reasonable ways to sell your loot.
Rather interestingly calibrated enemies: the locals (ie the AI) have Czech police SMGs in areas near the newbie
base areas.  Off in the hills they have AK-47s and body armor.
Theoretically there are other factions you can PvP against.  I'm in the Malang restoration project faction as Langford, but I haven't seen anybody from the other two factions, Crimson Sheild (from Russian Georgia and Georgia Georgia I guess?) and Mithras (still worshiping bull like a good roman?)
