During filming of Airplane, Leslie Nielsen used a whoopee cushion to keep the cast off-balance. Hays said that Nielsen "played that thing like a maestro"

Tallulah Bankhead: "I'll come and make love to you at five o'clock. If I'm late, start without me."

"When all other trusts fail, turn to Flashman." — Abraham Lincoln.

"I have enjoyed very warm relations with my two husbands."
"With your eyes closed?"

Could have been written by several folks around here.
All that is gold does not glitter,

While the actual words are probably later productions than the original time attributed, there was certainly no love lost between the Ottomans and the various Slavs, notably the Cossacks.

They especially hated their underling, the Crimean Khanate, because they had a long history of raiding their Christian neighbors for slaves and selling many to the Turks.  So it wouldn't surprise me if any original replies were of the same nastiness.  ;D
