Title: Too Much FRIDAY
Post by: Hofstadter on January 12, 2017, 10:23:19 PM

Julie Christmas is the only woman id go straight for.

Finally hit diamond in overwatch, now I'm just gonna sit there and never play again for fear of losing it.

Probably going to start a scourge of war ligny playthrough, just wish the difficulty customisation options didn't suck so I can increase the moral without instantly adding a camera limitation

Might also do a Seven Years war Pomeranian wars playthrough/tutorial. Going to play it tonight so I can get the grip of it again

Going to be Elite, EUIV, and CMANO in that order.

Elite currently has a limited time mission that is rewarding 100 million credits for exploring alien ruins. Can't pass that up so I'm going to finally finish exploring Barnard's Loop (been saying that for months and still haven't), then head back to the bubble. I'll do my trip around the galaxy in another few months. If I have the time and can get him into a ship to make it I'm going to get my second commander out there to the ruins as well.

Released my new CMANO scenario for testing earlier this week. Need to make some minor changes to it. Also going to be streaming it on my twitch stream Saturday. With this scenario done, I've already started doing research for my next scenario. A regional air war exercise that will let the player choose their opponent via special actions.

Back in the saddle, vacation is over.  :(

Need to get playing PBEM Plan Orange with SDR again on a regular basis. Turn 4 of 6 and he's thrown a big wrench in the works.  :buck2:

Need to start up PBEM Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm PBEM with OJsDad again. Maybe some Reforged stuff this time.  \m/

Playing some of my KS copy of Plague Inc. Board Game. Fun quick game. Only 8 pages of rules. Worker placement and card management rolled into one. Lots of tough decisions.

Going to pick up my new Miata roof, game table mat, Jutland and Wing Leader on Sunday.

Finishing my game table. Staining to do and then work out good beer holders...

Leaving for Austin on Saturday to visit my brother for the week. Gaming will be very light this weekend and will be mostly on the SurfacePro.

The Division is my current thang, so I'll keep on trucking there. Maybe toss in some WoT, WoWs, or War Thunder.

Need to clean the yard up, honestly, so that is one day taken care of.

So many games singing their siren song to me but I continue to truck through the Enderal mod for Skyrim as well as my Mercia campaign in Age of Charlemagne. The strongest siren song is coming from Metal Gear Solid V which will probably be next although I do miss The Witcher 3 badly.

Still trying to get Caesar past Pompey in AJE and my crew into the Forbidden Temple in PoE: The White March.  Plus a whole lot of NFL, hot wings, drinking, and a little light yard work thrown in to make everybody think I'm busy.  \m/

1.) Playing "close out the accounting year" at the factory this weekend, on broken old computers. Will this be the year everything goes irrevocably to hell? IT'S LIKE WARHAMMER 40K IN THAT REGARD!  :D

2.) World of Tanks grinding; Mechwarrior Online grinding.

3.) The dwarven campaign AAR needs some more entries to finish up; got to consider how best to do that.

4.) Bank holidays don't usually affect me, but this Monday I'll be getting a day off to play with Bro (a banker) and the nieces!  :smitten: :smitten:

5.) I've installed Scourge of War: Waterloo, with plans to work on my divisional command skilz (which can be charitably described as non-extant). Not sure I'll get to that this week.

6.) Making verrrrry preliminary plans for a video series. More on this later, perhaps, maybe.

JH how many hours of MGS V have you played? I can't believe you have a top 10...narrowing it down from every PC and most console games published since 1980 is nothing to sneeze at.

Well aside from the "joys" of retail working... I do get a discount so I grabbed me some Logitech speakers for my PC.

So besides the 8-12 in the morning, I intend to either play

Distant Worlds: Universe

Stellaris- decided to try the Terran Commonwealth (Deneb start) - they use wormholes and are xenophobes. I don't play as total genocidal maniacs. Besides if we started a war we'd get our asses kicked! I did have two interesting story events that I liked a lot. The lost ship, and the Fist of God (terrorist/separatists) - long story short: Captured the battleship of the Fist of God after completely obliterating their fleet. There's a lot I like about Stellaris, and I think that's why I come back to it.

So far some RoF MP and a bit of a CMFB campaign.  Later on there'll be some more RoF and perhaps some FPS action.  Tomorrow I'll maybe change things up with SoW:W, sale-fodder Hegemony III, or even a first crack at The Seven Years War

Well I managed to discover PCSX2. So now I get to discover / rediscover all my old ps2 games.

So now that on top of Starbound, Witcher , HoI4, and anything else that peaks my interest.

CMANO maybe.  Looks like mostly Heroes and Generals.  The new recon planes are great for really bad players like me.  Among other things, I've killed two enemy parachutists by hitting them with the airplane and one enemy personage by parachuting from very low as my plane went down and borrowing his AA gun and shooting him when he came bicycling back to it after a brief bit of death.

Hmmm... as much as I would love to play some of my PS2 games (like Gladius and Godzilla: Save the Earth) which never have gotten ported to the PS3 (and probably never will now thanks to the PS4 naturally shifting attention away), without having to hook up my PS2 again... I just don't know that I can fiddle comfortably enough with that much fiddling.  :-\

I was afraid of that too but it's really not that difficult if you have a modern rig and read a couple of the online tutorials. Hardest part is making the games look good by selecting the right resolutions. Everything else was pretty easy.

I was good to good in maybe 10 minutes but have then been spending an hour or so fiddling. Games run great, no issues but just trying to make them look best on my display.

Gladius was an awesome game, I had it on the  original X box.

This Enderal mod for Skyrim is absolutely unreal. Even moreso because it was put together by a small team of fans. I've played for about 20 hours and tonight it appears that those 20 hours were just prologue for the rest of the story, now that I have been inducted into The Keepers.

Considering there are tons of people (and things) you can marry in stock Skyrim (not even counting mods), Enderal by comparison drastically reduces the options (only two so far as I know -- which is for story purposes).

Even in the recon-plane business things vary a lot.  I did unbelievably badly in two games last night, but this afternoon -- flying low and parachuting after a few "keep their heads donw" machine gun passes I did pretty well for me with the commie submachinegun.  Budabuda.  One dude kept peeking out to hit me with a panzersheiek, but even he perished in the end -- and then somebody got me as I was reloading.

It turned into a weekend of killing little pixeltruppen - i finally found the right parameters for a decent length battle in Call to Arms and basically spent an age playing mini modern soldiers

Inspired by that i bought MoW AS 2 and did it all again with a WW2 vibe - had a great battle in the Hurtgen Forest with my Rangers

Then disappeared in Endless Space 2 for a couple of hours - ill post screens where i can

sometimes you can sit back on a Sunday night and think 'yup, i got some gaming done this weekend'

Well my extended weekend into Monday with the nieces got cancelled at the last minute, so I'm at work this morning.  >:( (As the low guy on the managerial pole, I don't get many vacation days in practice despite working here almost my entire life, so I'd rather save it for later.)

I've reached the point in World of Tanks and Mechwarrior Online where the grindiness really starts to grind, so I roughly plan to abandon WoT soon and try Heroes and Generals. (Not abandoning MWO, but I don't feel like playing 8 hours a day 7 days a week to afford a new Mech chassis. I might pay them actual money, though, in gratitude for the experience so far. Maybe WoT, too, since I've enjoyed it up to this point, seems fair.)

Yesterday I was pretty depressed at the cancel, and spent an unknown amount of time partially downloading and then cancelling a number of WW2 games before installing Brothers In Arms: Road to Hill Whatever -- and then discovering my DVD of it won't work on Windows 8.1. (The Steam version might, but I'm not going to risk full price on that!)

Then discovered that the final part of a four-part series I had been watching was pre-empted in its recording by a high school football game (of all things). So I lost that time investment.

So I ended yesterday marathoning a lot of the documentary for The Ten Thousand Day War (I own and already have read the book), which fit my mood.  :buck2:

JP, if you have the hard disk try entering the code into steam. I know a couple of older games that this works for so it might be with a try. Given I believe it is publisher based but it couldn't hurt trying.

I've got the box (I know where it is), and presumably if there's a code it'll be in the box and/or the instructions. But notably, it didn't ask for a code when installing or trying to launch. I have a suspicion it isn't supposed to have a code, being a Starforce DRM.

Relatedly, it's a Starforce DRM. ;) Everyone seems to agree this is the key reason why it doesn't work well, or at all, on systems past XPSP3, and why the Steam version which doesn't include Starforce can work perfectly fine -- but not always, for apparently other reasons.

Yup - I believe win 8 and beyond makes it impossible to use starforce as the DRM was just as if not more invasive than a virus.

I should probably look around for safe ways to check if Starforce is still lingering in my system after the uninstall. ;)

As expected, there wasn't an activation code -- or not exactly. There was a code for online multiplayer (I think). I tried it anyway on Steam, didn't work.

I'll risk it on the next sale, perhaps. Never finished the first game and would like to play the series through. (I could just pull out my Win XP2 super-Falcon laptop, where I was playing it previously, but that would require "effort". ;) )

Played the opening mission of mow as2 as the americans - I didn't realise how open to creating little stories the game was, as you scan the battlefield there are vignettes been played out all across the map

My squad of engineers and AT team crouched at the foot of some stairs in front of a huge search light picking off advancing Germans as they enter the courtyard

A squad of rangers taking cover behind an old brick wall taking on light afvs and squad after squad of enemy

My battered and bruised AT team stopping and armoured advance on one of the flanks

Great game

Not in Phantom Pain but in 'The Definitive Experience'  http://store.steampowered.com/sub/132479/

Ended up playing the board game Tiny Epic Kingdoms all weekend. Then proceeded to order Tiny Epic Galaxies, Tiny Epic Western and the expansion for Tiny Epic Kingdoms.

It just occurred to me, pursuant to Rome 1 TW being easily converted to Steam, that they're about to release R1TW for mobiles. Which means mobile power has advanced to the point where it's feasible to play R1TW.

Which means if I register my copy on Steam, I might be able to feasibly play it (thus also my nieces by extension) on my Surface Pro 3!  8)

A Dumpling walks into a bar..... Asks the bartender, "Can I get a cold beer"? The bartender looks at him and says, "Yeah. You got any dough"? The Dumpling says, "Eat me"!  :hide:

JH how many hours of MGS V have you played? I can't believe you have a top 10...narrowing it down from every PC and most console games published since 1980 is nothing to sneeze at.

Has to be 40 to 50 hours, at least. Mostly on the PS4. And with all the depth and replayability of this game, 50 hours is nothing.

RTW Barbarian Invasion is to be released in March IIRC.

I got a subtle hint last night as to how huge MGSV is after completing the prologue and the first mission and Steam telling me that I had 1% of the game completed. Took me 3 hours. So according to my new math it could take me 300 hours to complete MGSV.

...and that's just the story. When you add side missions, base building, online play, etc., the time spent playing can be epic.

I see what you're saying. I played for about 90 minutes tonight, completed another two missions and started developing new weapons, helicopter gear, gear for the horse, extractions, etc. This game can easily take over your life. This is easily a 1000 hour game if you want it to be. Did better on tonight's missions than yesterday too  >:D

The experiment worked, except that (as I should have recalled but never do because it's so asinine  :buck2: ) the Surface has trouble figuring out how to scale-up lower res screens to the size of the screen. Meaning I'm playing the dang thing at squint sizes. (This afflicts many games.

I may have to try fiddling around in the .ini or look for a higher-res mod. Alternately, maybe I can fix the problem here (and elsewhere) by playing it windowed.

I didn't really get on with it.

Trying to escape those "things" didn't help and I thought I read somewhere that your "shit" wasn't safe. Was that a thing? Getting your rig raided or something?

It wasn't a bad game - just other things and, imo, better games to move onto.

^ that's what I thought.

A quick look brought this back

Having said that - nothing like that ever happened to me (that I was aware of) but my base wasn't that big...I *think* 1 possibly two FOBs.

There was plenty to like in the game.

For the record MGSV is a great game but I am much more into games of any type that are more historical. I find myself pining for Witcher 3 and Medieval 2.

Witcher 3 historical?   ???

I tried playing some Scourge of War: Gettysburg sandbox on the Antietam map with the historical OOB, Army vs. Army.  I'm giving order after order, taking forever, and then I realize I'm commanding 80,000 troops by courier.  Yeah....So, there is no way I can wrap my brain around something like that by 9pm Saturday night.

I'm not sure what I'm going to move on to, but it has to be far simpler than that!

I just didn't enjoy it as much when it strayed from reality, especially the introduction chapter.....main reason I don't want to try again is because I don't want to go through that chapter again....the game mechanics itself were great, loved the sneaking around and multiple approaches.

Just played two hours - it's undeniably awesome, I take back any doubt. And I started listening to the audio tapes scattered all over the place to piece together the backstory from the previous installment and beyond. I have about 40 to listen to altogether.
