Title: Sick of the Election? - Vote For Airboy! (Completed)
Post by: airboy on October 12, 2016, 08:52:17 PM
As a longstanding wargamer who is sick of the election I decided to fight back the only way I know how: Playing a game simulating the election.  This is the Political Machine 2016 with a custom candidate: Wargamer Airboy.

Creating my custom candidate was easy.  The Wargamer Airboy figure took me about 15 minutes to build.  There were a lot of options to choose from so I did not have to tax my highly limited artsy-fartsy powers.

Then you select your characteristics.  My strongest characteristics all work together.  I have very high Stamina which allows a lot of actions.  High Charisma and Creditability helps you make effective speeches.  Speeches cost a lot of stamina but no cash.

I have very low appearance and experience which negatively impacts interviews.  As a Republican, I know the media is highly biased so I'm avoiding the liberal running dogs in their press costumes.  America also wants change and the "experienced politicians" have led to the current situation.  I'm also strong on raising money and have high creditability which helps your advertising.  My starting money is good but not great.

My strategy is lots of stamina, lots of effective speeches, lots of fundraising for buying highly effective positive and negative ads.  I'm avoiding the media and interviews.  North Carolina is my home state.

Wargamer Airboy's Issues:

Next you select your issues.  You need to put 21 points into something to get to the stronger position areas.  Going away from zero in any direction costs you issue points.  I'm strong on Fighting ISIS, Securing the borders, Fighting Zika, and Religious Freedom.  I did not go as strong on supporting Religious Freedom because the democrat I'm running against is against religious freedom.  I'm strong on Zika because it is critical to Florida and somewhat important to the rest of the Atlantic Coast states.  I'm somewhat strong on Farm Subsidies in case the Midwest comes into play.  I have minor points in the Keystone Pipeline (which all of the Dems hate).  I'm for probing Hillary's Emails (because I can).  If you run as a Republican you have more base strength in typical Republican Issues and vice-versa for Democrats.

I'm playing on "easy" because I'm depressed enough about this election anyway and don't want to lose.

This game is the fifth I've played in the last week or so.  Once you play about an hour you will understand the game mechanics.  I'm playing the next to longest game which is 42 turns which are called weeks.

In this Corner is Wargamer Airboy's Opponent: Hillary! (aka The Witch!)

You then choose your opponent.  I chose Hillary, aka "The Witch."  She is against cleaning bathrooms and for sacrificing children outside on wood fires (abortion, climate change, environment).  She wants more refugees in the USA so she will have plentiful sacrifices.  She is against fighting ISIS (who kill suspected witches), and against religious freedom (they are anti-witch).

Hillary's! Super Powers:

Hillary's strengths are fund raising (she sells cookies to attract children), experience (she is an 18th level witch), intelligence (the press lackeys feed her the questions before interviews) but is weak on creditability.  Dogs and horses shy away from witches and children naturally fear her.  All of which lowers her creditability.  Hillary's Gingerbread House is located in her "home state" of New York.

I start in North Carolina, my home state.  I upgrade my campaign HQ for $$s.  I then build another HQ in a different State.

You win votes in a State by having awareness of your candidacy and persuading people on your issues.  My core strategy is to build campaign HQs in a lot of States which take money.  Campaign HQs also give you understanding of how people in the state respond to 15 issues.  Without the campaign HQ you get information on only 5 issues which can kill you if they are not your strong issues.  You can also give a speech within a State which helps you in the state if the voters like the message (which depends on the HQ to understand what those are and the strength of support).  Speeches take a lot of stamina but cost no money.  Campaign HQs also give you a positive cash flow - more for each level of HQ you build (there are 3 levels costing $250,000; $500,000; $1,000,000 per level.  Higher HQs allow you to raise more money.

You also get more money when you fundraise if you raise money in a rich State.  This usually boils down to California (#1), Texas (#2) and New York (#3).  Fundraising also builds stamina.

If you understand the issues it tells you where to place ads which also cost money.  You have inexpensive "ground game" ads which only impact your standing within that State.  I just figured that out today.  Much more expensive TV ads help you in the state and also change awareness nationwide.  So your TV ads should focus on things that are popular nationally (again - I just figured that one out).  Your ads can be positive (I support this issue) or negative (my opponent does not support this).  Or vice-versa: I'm opposed and the Witch supports.

Other buildings allow you "political capital" which can be used to gain endorsements.  The last type of building allows you to hire political operatives which can give you an overall bonus everywhere on specific attributes, or can help you within a State.

I'm going to run through this quickly because I did not make the proper screenshots.  You see where you need to work based on the map of the USA - and I did not screen shot many.

The Witch is initially strong in several New England States, New York, and California.  All have lots of covens.  I'm strong initially in the Mountain West and some of the Southern States.  I'm also strong in West Virginia because the Witch promised to throw everyone out of work in the coal industry and eat their children.

In week 2 I built stage 1, 2, and 3 of the building which gives me Political Capital to gain endorsements.  I built this on turn 2 because endorsements get gobbled up quickly - so you need to act fast.  This took a lot of money ($250k + $500K + $1million = $1.75 million).  I built it in Connecticut because it is hard for me to carry this state.  Hillary! built a stage 1 PR building in Vermont - a good choice because it has lots of liberal covens and has few votes.  She also built another Campaign HQ.

Post by: airboy on October 13, 2016, 05:30:19 PM
In Week 3 Hillary! picks up a Kook in Missouri.  The Kook tells people that "witches are not real."  We both build two Campaign HQs.

I'm barely behind in the popular polls, but I'm ahead in the electoral college.  Better, Hillary! has her electoral votes concentrated in just a few states.  I have support in a lot of States which makes it harder for her to extinguish my electoral votes because they are very spread out.

Week 4:
This is one of my only early Map screenshots.  I'll do a 2nd AAR on this better.

In Week 4 my endorsements start to pay off.  I pick up Foreign Relation Group because they help me spread the hatred of ISIS.  This also helps my national polling.

I've provided a pretty detailed explanation of the game map.  I'm slightly behind in the polls - but there is a very long time left in the election.  I've built campaign HQs in many of the battleground States.  This helps my long-run cash flow as well as my awareness in critical States.
Title: Re: Sick of the Election? - Vote For Airboy!
Post by: airboy on October 13, 2016, 05:49:51 PM
Week 5:

I pick up yet another endorsement!!!  Once the endorsements are gone they are locked.  This is why I invested so much so early in this.  I'm also leading in the national polls.  Sorry no map shot.

Week 6:

My lead builds.  I have enough cash and stamina to build HQs in Washington State and Colorado which are currently undecided.  These states combine for > 15 electoral votes which is quite a few.  No covens are there.  Doing this in Week 6 makes it harder for Hillary! to catch up.

I am pleased to see TN early supports against witches; but sort of puzzled by the tepidly neutral early stance in North Carolina. Then again, I think the original Witch Mountain from the novels was there, so...

(In the first Disney version it's in Callifornia or anyway the western Rockies; not sure where in the remake with the Rock. In the books it's vaguely in the Appalachias somewhere in the Virginia / NC / TN area. When we drove to South Carolina for Dad's trade shows in the summer, I always amused myself watching for Witch Mountain.  :smitten: )

Airboy believes that females are on average smaller and physically weaker than males.  Airboy also strongly supports the 2nd Amendment and is pursuing the endorsement of the gun nuts.  Randomly armed females will encourage males to keep unwanted attention to themselves or suffer from lead poisoning.

Unfortunately, Airboy thinks that silver bullets are necessary to harm witches since lead is a "base metal" and witches are "base creatures."  Enough lead consumption by an individual witch may give them another witch level and stronger powers.  Regretfully, silver rounds are rare and expensive.  Airboy advises caution in adding lead to the diet of your average witch.

How do you decide what to have a speech or an ad about in an individual State?  There are a couple of key points.

First, a campaign HQ gives you a lot more information in a State on what is important.  If you have the stamina to give a speech, you can see what appeals to Dems, Independents, and Witch Haters.  But without the stamina to give a speech, you cannot access this information.  The same information on what appeals in a speech can be directly used in an advertisement.  However, if you launch very expensive TV ads ($450,000 a pop plus a weekly charge) you also gain a national reputation on an issue.  This can backfire.  For example, if I give speeches on securing the borders or have TV ads that strengthens my position nationally.

On some issues there is little opposition to the issue (drought relief, against Zika, for farm assistance) but other issues cause you to lose ground in other States.  For example, religious freedom and securing the borders appeals in most States both to Independents and to Repubs.  But both securing the border and religious freedom will cost you in California.

Attached are a couple of screen shots in different States about different issues.  Note that Zika is very important in Florida.

Airboy's advertisements are strongly against Zika which helps in the Atlantic & Gulf Coast States - especially Florida.  It is not a negative anywhere.

For some reason Airboy's ads suggest that Zika is a Witch Borne Disease caused by broomstick flights.

Week 6 - A Cash Bonanza!

I raised money in California and flew to where there was a "?" symbol in a State.  This can cause good or bad things to happen.  What happened this time is I found a donor who gave me $1 Million!!

The Witch came out for Child Sacrifice via luring children to Gingerbread Houses.
Airboy came out for securing the Borders against Witches.

Week 7:
On Week 7 the Witch had to rest to digest her last meal.  I hired a speech writer which makes my talks even more effective.  I then gave two campaign speeches.

Hillary! did not give any speeches, get any endorsements, place any ads, or build any structures.  She just flew around the country on Broomstick 1.  Children and dogs hid everywhere she touched down.  Cats flocked to her.

A wiki-leak disclosed that one member of the press emailed the Hillary! campaign that "Hillary has so many cats around her she seems to be a 40 year old spinster.  Oops I forgot that is the state of her "relationship" with Bill.  My bad."

I'm not sure I've ever lost a Political Game normal election, but it's always pretty close. (Whereas on Democracy 3 I tend to overwhelm the other party so hard in the election that it effectively ceases to exist by the end of my run. I should however note that this typically involves making the US a socialist state in effect, a result that offends my very core.  :buck2: )

Mainly I go the route Airboy is going: I make sure key states (I include Illinois) have beefed up HQs early -- Republicans have a bit of an advantage here in a way because the key states tend to be Dem so we can concentrate force easily where it makes the most difference for us and against the opposition. I tend to give speeches a lot and parse my ads carefully for effect. I build my campaign platform on planks everyone approves or disapproves of; by the time I'm done, those are the key issues of the election. I never fight dirty. Unlike Airboy, I rarely go for the special interest groups, but not because I don't want to -- I just usually end up focusing elsewhere enough I rarely get any. (I think the last time I played, a few years ago, the Democrats picked up the NRA support!  :2funny: )

Week 10:
Airboy accomplished a lot.  Endorsement from the Tea Party.  An HQ.  Fund raisers in New York and Texas.  Then traveled to a "?" symbol and got a "time waster" that ended my turn.  But I arrived with my last bit of stamina so this was no big loss.  The Witch flew around on Broomstick 1 looking for Children and Puppies.  Fortunately, the kids and the puppies all made their "hide in shadows" rolls and survived.

Week 11:
I give two speeches on my strongest topic: Fighting ISIS.  Nobody likes ISIS and talking about it raises the prominence of the issue.

Hillary is "pro-ISIS" which came as a surprise.  But, it ends up that ISIS is a front for evil Djinn from the Middle-East.  The Djinn lord made a pact with the Witches.  Airboy realizes this and is warning America of how ISIS increases the Witch Threat to the American Dream.

An allied group has started a protest campaign wherever Broomstick 1 lands for "Child Lives Matter."  They also warn children (and dogs) not to take cookies from strangers.

Week 15:
I hired a fashion consultant.  Look at the picture for his recommendations.
California is a purple "battleground state."  If I'm competitive in California it is excellent news.

Hillary came out for the "GMO Trade."  This stumped me and most of the American Public.  Then Wiki-leaks hacked the unsecured crystal ball used by the Witch for her communications.  GMO = "Give Me More Orphans"  Airboy responded by distributing "Child Lives Matter" buttons.

Airboy's communications are secure.  Airboy uses gun nuts to carry his messages to his operatives.  Airboy's gun nuts are armed with Saiga Anti-Witch Shotguns.  The Saiga Anit-Witch Shotgun has a 50 round magazine loaded with silver buckshot.

This is the half-way point in the campaign.  There are 20 more weeks in the election so we are in June.

Massachusetts has returned to it's anti-witch roots.  A national organization has started called: D.O.S..  This is "Daughters of Salem."  DOS is patterned after the DAR - Daughters of the American Revolution.  But DOS links its heritage back to the 1600s witch hunters from the Salem area.

When asked about the DOS in an interview, Airboy was caught unprepared.  Airboy mentioned his mother is a member of the DAR.  When pressed on the legitimacy of the new DOS group Airboy responded: "It is nice that people are learning more about American History."

Controversy Strikes the Nation:

Hillary! came out swinging when the latest polls showed her far behind Airboy.  She gave a major speech where she declared that: "I am not a Witch."  She also charged Airboy was a "hatey hater" by being against "Wiccans" who are all "wonderful Americans who bake excellent cookies."

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fgrogheads.com%2Fforums%2Findex.php%3Faction%3Ddlattach%3Btopic%3D18006.0%3Battach%3D8358&hash=35e9face0551d920d1ff10e5e93962e22b8a97f7)

The mainstream press took up the charge and Airboy is being asked at every campaign stop if he is a "hatey hater" and why "America perceives Airboy as being "Anti-Wiccan."  The Mainstream Press also charged that Airboy is distracting the public from important issues such as "it is still Bush's Fault," and his opposition to open borders and unlimited importation of black cats.

The Press Attacks Airboy

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fgrogheads.com%2Fforums%2Findex.php%3Faction%3Ddlattach%3Btopic%3D18006.0%3Battach%3D8360&hash=c686b280ae3ac8f3e716491e576e79ebba6bd936)

Airboy eventually lost his temper and exclaimed:
"I am pro-Child and pro-Puppy.  Children and Puppies should not have to live in fear.  I am in favor of legal immigration, but do not want people invited to the country with an anti-child and anti-puppy agenda."

Airboy then took the afternoon off from the campaign and went deep sea fishing.  A Press Helicopter followed but returned to shore after warning shots were fired for "scaring off the fish."  In an amazing development, Airboy briefly went over the rail into the Gulf of Mexico when he hooked a very large tuna.  Airboy did not lose his rod and eventually landed the tuna.  Pictures from a trailing boat carrying members of the press showed Airboy going over the rail and climbing back after passing over his rod & reel.

Airboy joked when he got back to the dock about his unexpected swim.  He said that "at least water won't hurt me because I'm human."  When asked to clarify his statement he walked off to start the grill.  His press secretary later would only say "ding dong."

He kept many large tuna steaks for a cookout, but gave the rest of the fish to a local food bank catering to women and children.  The rest of the fish was ground up and given to stray puppies.

Ding Dong! (Digging up that political cartoon was priceless, btw.)

I must however reveal that I am in favor of unlimited importation of black cats. They are awesome, like ninja squirrels, except moreso, even if they would murder us all in their sleep if they thought they could get away with it.

(...I can't believe I just made that old Matt Groenig cartoon strip from "Life In Hell" politically relevant, kind of by accident...)

But seriously, I can haz more black cats plz, kthxbi.

Week 23
A wikileak was released of a picture from 20 years ago with Hillary! in full witch uniform.  Hillary initially stated that the picture was faked, but then multiple pictures of Hillary from 20 years ago in full witch outfit came to light.  A leaked CBS news video outtake also showed Hillary quite comfortable in a witch outfit.  CBS immediately fired five staffers.  Immediately after the staffers were escorted from the building a mysterious woman in black set them all on fire and they died a horrible death.  The mysterious woman vanished in a cloud of green smoke.

Wiki -leak 20 year old Hilllary photo
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fgrogheads.com%2Fforums%2Findex.php%3Faction%3Ddlattach%3Btopic%3D18006.0%3Battach%3D8391&hash=ba9fb99f2b9a26d336b03c0444f31408778d860d)

Hillary! ignored shouted press questions.  But national polling showed that increasing numbers of Americans, especially children and families with children, think Hillary is a witch.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fgrogheads.com%2Fforums%2Findex.php%3Faction%3Ddlattach%3Btopic%3D18006.0%3Battach%3D8393&hash=f4e754b3348b4f9ff106efd4078dc32f1b60ea02)

Hillary then gave an interview with an "unbiased" CNN reporter. CNN = Clinton News Network.  In that interview Hillary! exclaimed that she is not a witch and that only a "hatey hater" like Airboy would think so.  Hillary went on to state that this was "prejudice against older women" and that it was a common tactic to demean women as they approached 70 to call them "witches."  Below is a picture from the CNN interview.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fgrogheads.com%2Fforums%2Findex.php%3Faction%3Ddlattach%3Btopic%3D18006.0%3Battach%3D8395&hash=5984b4f0d27796bcf8b71f0fb9693d5c2a5e768f)

Wiki-leaks then released a video from a NOW (National Association of Wiccans) Fundraiser.  At the fundraiser Hillary! stated that she was not a witch.  But then with exaggerated slowness Hillary winked.  Attached is a photo of the wink.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fgrogheads.com%2Fforums%2Findex.php%3Faction%3Ddlattach%3Btopic%3D18006.0%3Battach%3D8397&hash=86f2ec86a7078ea0f1468c7a8bc0911058735052)

At a campaign stop in Massachusetts a Mom threw a bucket of water at Hillary!  Showing amazing agility, Hillary! dodged the water.  Hillary supporters then tackled the woman and she was forcibly removed.  Hillary then loudly proclaimed that this was all "Airboy's Fault" and that only people who are "completely deplorable hatey haters could ever believe that she was a witch.  A shout when out from the throng "how many of Airboy's supporters are deplorable? and Hillary screamed "at least half of them are deplorable.  And those hatey haters are irredeemable!"

Week 24:
Airboy keeps hammering away at being against ISIS.  Airboy has had more anti-ISIS speeches and advertising than on any other topic.  He also has launched a series of negative ads which state that Hillary! is against fighting ISIS.
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fgrogheads.com%2Fforums%2Findex.php%3Faction%3Ddlattach%3Btopic%3D18006.0%3Battach%3D8401&hash=a7c5f722f71d8787e0594ae714318464dfded945)

Week 25:
Airboy's lead continues in week 25.  He comes out for drought assistance.  When asked by a member of the Press if he believes that "the curse of a witch causes drought" Airboy responded "I love puppies and children" as he walked away.  Increasing numbers of individuals are being ejected from Hillary! rallies wearing shirts stating that "Hillary = Witch" or carrying homemade signs claiming that she is a witch.  The press calls these individuals "Kooks" and the weekly wrap-up states that Hillary had attracted more of them.

Weeks 26-28
The campaign continued.  Airboy made a lot of speeches and ads against ISIS, Zika and for drought relief.

The press started this three week period by ignoring the witch issue and calling anyone who raised the issue to be a "kook."  Then important Hillary supporters came out stating that there was absolutely no evidence that Hillary is currently a witch.  When asked about the 20 year old photo of Hillary in a witches outfit the Hillary supporters stated that the costume was just something for Halloween.  But later members of the press tracked down the date of the meeting where Hillary was found to be wearing the costume and it was the first day of Spring.  Hillary supporters then claimed that she was just "getting a head start on Halloween" and besides, nobody could prove that she was a witch.  This could all be summed up as "no witch proof."
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fgrogheads.com%2Fforums%2Findex.php%3Faction%3Ddlattach%3Btopic%3D18006.0%3Battach%3D8405&hash=6499824ef1fd688137f654ffd5de66badba83a77)

In a bizarre moment, President Obama was asked if he thought that Hillary! was pretty by a foreign correspondent during a foreign visit to Italy.  Obama stated that "Hillary was pretty enough for a really old lady."  Obama then got angry and screamed that "I did not just say that.  Hillary is beautiful.  Beautiful I say."  But the press conference was being carried live and the video went viral.  An edited version which changed Obama's last word from "lady" to "witch" then exploded on social media.  Saturday Night Live did a skit where Obama was giving "beauty tips for old ladies and witches to make them more beautiful."

Oddly enough, a Saturday Night Live writer "spontaneously combusted" into fire and was consumed.  Later it was discovered that the mysteriously deceased SNL writer wrote the "Obama beauty advise skit."

Week 29:

A 10 warship flotilla of the Russian Navy left the Baltic Sea and entered the English Channel.  This level of naval provocation has not been seen since the demise of the USSR.  Europe is deeply concerned.

An unfortunately real news story can be found at:
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/2013780/royal-navy-pledges-to-man-mark-vladimir-putins-navy-as-russians-begin-ten-ship-pincer-move-on-the-english-channel/

The game event in my political machine game was a Russian Naval exercise in the Black Sea which alarmed Turkey.  But reality was so easily interjected here I changed it to the English Channel.

This is a huge boost for Airboy since a Stronger US Military, and Hawkish on Russia both became much more important.  A sane Republican candidate benefits a lot from an international threat.

After looking at all of the battleground States, a Stronger US Military is much more popular than Hawkish on Russia.  Even the liberal Dems want a strong US military when the Russian Bear is on the prowl.  This was a big turning point in the campaign.

This is a wrap-up of weeks 29-32.

Week 29
Airboy is hammering away at the need for a stronger military.  He is using both speeches in battleground states and in advertising.  Most of Airboy's advertising is going on TV.  TV is 10x as expensive as local ground-game campaigns.  But TV also raises the importance of an issue nationally as well as helping Airboy's standing on the issue nationally.

The screen shot also shows how some "contested states" are close but Airboy will win without a significant change.  For example, Michigan both candidates have a 100% awareness, there are only 1% of the voters undecided, but Airboy has greater than 50% of the vote.  This is a "safe state" as long as the overall net does not change.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fgrogheads.com%2Fforums%2Findex.php%3Faction%3Ddlattach%3Btopic%3D18006.0%3Battach%3D8421&hash=d2bb4fe2d4da50b28aea73aff4cb0f8c6a5fab42)

Week 30
Hillary! is making a mistake pushing relatively minor issues like Gay Marriage.  I'm putting up TV ads which help nationally on important national issues.  Gay Marriage is important in some States, but not most States.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fgrogheads.com%2Fforums%2Findex.php%3Faction%3Ddlattach%3Btopic%3D18006.0%3Battach%3D8423&hash=649c2d44227977fb292b1bc11dc7e01e71169a20)

Week 32
We are 9 weeks out from election day.  My lead in Illinois is also "safe" if nothing big changes.  Illinois is even a bigger lead than Michigan.  The situation is similar to Michigan.  Hillarys! advertising is focusing on individual State issues - like the water crisis in Flint Michigan.  But I'm launching aerial bombardment with very expensive TV ads on Stronger Military, Social Security and Fighting ISIS which helps me everywhere.

Only 5 weeks until election day.  Airboy is maintaining his lead almost everywhere except California. That's true of most of the big electoral states, excluding Texas and maybe Florida. A Democratic player has to defend those areas while trying to pick up a wider swatch of secondary electoral states normally skewing Republican; but that's arguably easier to do since only a few of those need to swing as long as the electorate bastions are held by the Dems.

You should do a shot of the red/blue map each week, too. It tells a lot of the story. The fact you have purpled most of the Northeast coast but have outright redded Massachusetts (where Boston polls) is no small thing.

Week 36

This set of screen shots will show where the campaign is 5 weeks from election day.  Most of the "purple" states are actually totally safe for Airboy (Missouri & Kentucky) or close to being completely safe (Michigan & Florida).  I've spent my funds.  I'm going to concentrate the rest of my resources on California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey.

Note all of the bright red states.  They are total locks for Airboy.  Note the lighter red states.  5 weeks out they are also locks for Airboy unless Hillary! spends all of her resources attempting to flip ONE OF THEM.

The following screen shots explain where the campaign is in several key states and provides an overview of some of the other States.  I don't think that Hillary could win even if she took every single purple state that is feasible (that is everything except Kentucky and Missouri) and held onto her only "safe states" of New York and Delaware.

California

Three weeks to go before the election and Hillary's! campaign manager came out and said that the witch "loves puppies!"  I kid you not.  Read it for yourself.  That part of the screenshot was not changed.

This AAR is just about over.

There was one more political bombshell the week before the election.

Then Airboy ran the most unusual final TV ads in US Presidential History.

Then we have election night, the results, and the exit polls.

The AAR should be complete by the end of the weekend - just in time for Halloween! >:D

WikiLeaks Halloween Bombshell!

WikiLeaks released two videos on Halloween.  The first shows Hillary! walking across a stage last week.  Her shadow seems to show her true form.  Although the video was never shown on the major networks (except for Fox), it got 30 million YouTube hits in 48 hours.  The Drudge Report showed the sequence of photographs. Hillary's! staffers immediately claimed the video was faked, but then the 11 cell phone video's appeared to back the claim.

The second video shows Hillary! reading a "hungry caterpillar" story to children.  Hillary says the caterpillar will "eat your brains" and "no one will like you ever again" if the child's parents do not vote for Hillary!.  However, the Clinton campaign claimed that the "video was faked" because Hillary! had not had any unsupervised classroom visits with anyone below the age of 14 in three months.

Hillary's True Form??

Did Hillary! Read this Story to 6 year olds?

Airboy's Final Television Ad

Airboy pulled all of his television ads discussing the need for a strong military, how ISIS should be destroyed, why the USA should fight witch disease (Zika).  Instead, Airboy ran a final TV ad that is the strangest ever seen in Presidential Campaign History.

Airboy's Final TV Spot
Airboy looks at the camera and says: "I know most of you are sick of the campaign.  So I want to help improve your mood before the election."  The ad continues with a series of shots of children with dogs.  The final shot is a video of an Asian child wearing a crown who then takes a second toy crown and places it on a dog's head.  Airboy has a voice over where he says "He will wear it with honor."

The ad then shows Airboy holding the same child who crowns him with a toy crown (which falls over one of Airboy's eyes.  Airboy say's "if elected I will serve with honor."  Then both he and the child burst out in laughter.  The same dog enters the scene and is jumping on the seated Airboy holding the child and slobbering them both.

Political pundits are stunned by the ad.  Chris Matthews of MSNBC is struck speechless - which causes his 20 viewers to rejoice.

Did they ever change the election results so that you could step through them state by state? I always hated the end of the game when it flew through the results without stopping.

Yes - you can look at the final returns in each state now by clicking on the icon at the top of the state and looking at the detailed results.  They also give you an aggregate breakdown of the national exit polls.

I think Bbmike was asking about the actual process of revealing the state results: it used to fly along from state to state, but it would be nice to step through them manually (or more slowly) to build more tension.

Yes, that's what I meant. It sounds like they did improve it a bit, though.

You can see where you are on each State by clicking on it.  You do not have to travel to a State to do this.  However, how you stand on various issues in the State is revealed by the level of campaign HQ you have in that State.  If you have no campaign HQ - then you get both opponents awareness, expected percentage of the vote (you, opponent and undecided) and you get your standing on the top 5 issues in that state.  With an HQ upgrade, this goes to 10 issues in a State.  With the final upgrade you get the top 20 issues or so.

Issue standing is how important the topic is to Dems, Repubs and Independents.  But that changes with national TV advertising and candidate speeches and interviews.

Having an HQ builds awareness.  It builds faster with better HQs and reveals more issues.  That can be critical to finding out a secondary issue important in a group of states that is not opposed anywhere.  With the highest HQ I think you start getting awareness in adjacent States, but I could be wrong.

It does not take that long to click on the States of interest and see how you are doing.  The map color is "generally" accurate.

Here are two screenshots from another game.  New York does not have a campaign HQ and only shows my standing on 5 issues.
Pennsylvania has a level 2 HQ and shows the first 15 issues (you can only see the first 12 or so on the screenshot).  You click on the (i) symbol in the corner of a state to get the information.  But the amount of information is determined by if you have an HQ and the level of that HQ.

This is why it helps to build an HQ before you give a speech or buy and ad.

I'm not expanding the screenshots because they are from a different game.

Election Results!

Airboy Wins!

The Witch only takes 2 states!

New Jersey is the only contested State that I fell short in.

Moving my thugs on the last turn to New York and California narrowly moved them to Airboy.  The last TV Ads with the children and dogs reminded people that Airboy was against Witches.  It reminded America of the threat posed by witches, but in a happy and fun way.

The Russian military exercise in the English Channel was the turning point.  I probably would have won without that provocation, but that enabled me to win in a landslide.  This has been the only game where I took both California and New York.

I hope you have enjoyed this AAR.  I found some of the events in the game to weirdly mirror both reality (the Russian Naval Exercise) and the weirdness I threw in (Hillary likes puppies!).

Winner!

55% of the actual vote, 98% of the electoral = MANDATE OF THE PEOPLES!  >:D

BBmike, I don't think Airboy understood what we were asking about.  ::) :P

That's... President Airboy now. What colored lights will you be shining outside the White House I wonder? And did you drop a house on Hillary or will she be coming-back for more?

I got a PM.  I'll try to answer what I think your question is.

The states get revealed one by one in the election results starting with Maine and working west.  It goes pretty quickly and it just shows if the State is red or blue.  You can look at the individual details after the results are provided.  It is not a lot of suspense (or the suspense is very fast).  There is no way that I know of to mod the game to make the state by state rollout a little slower with the election returns.

Thanks, airboy. I was hoping they would add an option to 'press a key' to see the next state's results. I don't like the way it quickly goes through the map at the end.
