I was recently reminded in another thread of "In Country," an album of American soldier songs from the Vietnam War.

The entire album is available on youtube (it is also on Amazon Music).

My favorite song has to be "Saigon Warrior" at 6:51 on the video.

Very cool stuff, thanks for posting!  This one's nice and long.... I'll have to see if I can get my hands on a physical copy.

EDIT - I see what you mean about Saigon Warriors, great song and very reminiscent of Hanging on the Old Barbed Wire!
A War of a Madman's Making - a text-based war planning and political survival RPG

It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge.  War endures.  As well ask men what they think of stone.  War was always here.  Before man was, war waited for him.  The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.  That is the way it was and will be.  That way and not some other way.

If they made nothing but WWII games, I'd be perfectly content.  Hypothetical matchups from alternate history 1980s, asymmetrical US-bashes-some-3rd world guerillas, or minor wars between Upper Bumblescum and outer Kaboomistan hold no appeal for me.

I guess it's sort of nice that the word "tactical" seems to refer to some kind of seriousness during your moments of mental clarity.

Aviation groupies and sim pilots may be interested in the following songs from the album, with video times and dedicated links for each:

"Tchepone" a gallows humor song about an F-4 pilot's rough mission over a flak infested town. Full of military aviation terminology: 19:41 on the video. Here is a dedicated link:

"Pull the Boom From the Gas Hole" a fighter pilot's anxious attempts to get back to his wingman who was shot down and on the ground behind enemy lines: 28:10. Here is a dedicated link:

"Cobra Seven" the heroic tale of a FAC who saved the crew of a downed Huey. FAC = Forward Air Controllers who coordinated air strikes from the air in various observation planes; most with minimal armament. 33:15. Here is a dedicated link:

"Green Beret and Friendly FAC" another gallows humor song over a 'conversation' between Green Berets on the ground and less than diligent FAC pilot. 36:47. Here is a dedicated link:

"Danang Lullaby" the story of a pilot trying to land when his airbase was being over-run. Take-away lesson...he loves US Marines. 50:53. Here is a dedicated link:

"Battle Hymn of the River Rats" chronicles air combat over the "Red River Valley" in North Vietnam. 1:02:47. Here is a dedicated link:
