Looks like a sub. But it isn't.
I know it's supposed to be stealthy, but why is the deck at a right angle to the gunwhale?
Carbon fiber and balsa wood stronger than steel? :o
I dont think theres a right angle on the exterior of that ship anywhere LB.

You may be right. It just kinda looked like it where I have (attempted) to draw what I thought I saw.

^True- amidships that hull doesn't look as 'tumblehome' as some of the early concept images would have suggested.
I think it depends on the angle or artist version.

Very interesting design.
in Windy's day they were powered by sail.
Not oars?

When is the first one hitting the water?
Thanks, Star.
I think the Chosers of the Slain book series by Jim Cobb features such a ship. BTW, this Jim Cobb in no way resembles the original and Grogheads approved Jim Cobb ;)

Sometime this fall, I believe.
The Navy has officially assumed ownership of the Zumwalt

Now we'll see what James Kirk is made of.
She's supposed to have transwarp drive.
But I'm being serious (http://www.public.navy.mil/surfor/ddg1000/Pages/bio1.aspx#.Vz9uGL5bg2Y)! :coolsmiley:
I know. Captain James Kirk of the Starship Zumwalt.
This is a cool story

more like a breakdown cruise :2funny:
I'm sure that Dreadnaught had a lot of teething problems that we never hear of today.
And it's not surprising that the Navy would want to use this ship as a test bed for a newer, hopefully better, engineering plant. So far no one has discussed safety issues and that's hopeful.
The Navy developed the 1200psi engineering plant to give ships the ability to respond to kamikazes with lots of power and maneuverability.
It was good at that, but the higher temperatures and much greater steam pressure caused a lot of casualties.
When a steam line burst spilling superheated-supersaturated steam into a space, you only had seconds to evacuate. Horrible way to die.
So...the engineer's last name is not Scott then? :P
