Well, their main threat does come from hunters, so the orange makes sense.  The rifles are for wolves and polar bears.

Happy to say they are getting replacement rifles... but as with all things military, there's some seriously fuckology going on with the bidding specs and contractor who thought they could keep the new rifle's D&M rights.
