Drones can't land and talk with the ground pounders about where they need fire support.

Brant, I have an unrelated question for you, but I don't want to start a new thread for it. What's the likelihood that an American FAC, capable of calling A-10 support, would be embedded with a West German territorial unit in about 1985. Assume that WWIII has broken out and an American unit is backstopping the Germans.

I ask because it came up in a game I played last weekend.

And I'm talking division-level for the Germans. Division, or higher, for the Americans.

Not improbable.  There were several German divisions that were TACON to US corps HQs in the war plans, so including US FACs in their DIV HQs isn't unreasonable.

That said, if you can find an AF guy from back then, he could tell you if there was ever anyone actually assigned that mission on a planned/expected basis.

Thanks. I was mainly looking for a general sense of probability. It's not a big deal, just a game thing. Sounds like it's at least plausible.
