Mr_Thracian

My name is Dean and I like to play Boardgame wargames.  When I was younger I used to play Historical Miniatures, mainly Ancients.  I like folio, and one map wargames.

Currently playing "Au Fil de L'Epee" (By the Edge of the Sword), and "Men of Iron series" published by GMT and ATO Magazine.  The last face to face game was playing "The Campaigns of Russia series", by Frank Chadwick, published by Victory Point games.

I live in the Los Angeles area if anybody wants to play Face to Face gaming.

I wanted to join the forum to ask about what would be a good computer wargame that is akin to a boardgame?

Wes

Wow...I'm first for a change :)

Welcome Mr_Thracian...I'm certain there will be some good picks presented for computer wargames. This is one of the rare communities where folk don't discriminate based on game or format.

Anyway, welcome to our madness :)
"I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."  - Frank Herbert

Greetings!

There's a LOT of good options for computer games that are like board games (turn-based, map/counter-like graphics, etc).  The guys are likely to ask you for some ideas on what kind board games you're wanting to find on the computer, like era (looks like you're a medieval fan), echelon (skirmish, tactical, operational, etc), and game length.

Welcome Mr_Thracian to the grogs. Great to have you with us. I loved the old game Panzerkreig back in the day and have found a very close twin in the Decisive Campaigns series. Great games with plenty of units to push around beautiful maps and a challenging AI to play against.  O0

Welcome to Grogheads, Dean!  I think you'll find some decent suggestions for boardgame-style computer wargames, depending on your preferences.  :)
