Finally, after so many years, one of the best rts ever is going to be released in english. It was only available in spanish and italian for many years (there were big tournaments), a HD Edition is coming out on steam. I highly recommend this....it's fast, it's tactical, it's great.

WOW. Wishlisted.
Hmm never heard of this game but I do know Haemimont.
I played the first 2 games in this series and really enjoyed them.
This is a definite buy for me.

I think I remember this one, waaaay back in the early 00s when I first came on to Wargamer.com.
Its not in English, but here is some gameplay footage:

It is basically Celtic Kings 3. In Spain and Italy they were released as Imperium, Imperium 2 and Imperium 3.
I just wishlisted it...every time I pare down my list...I get pulled back in :/
Put your dongle away, Steve!
Looks pretty cool. I like the macro-display map view you can switch to and give orders through. If all RTSes had a view like that, I would play a lot more of them.
I always have the same question re any RTS, and it's make-or-break:
Can you give orders while paused?

??? I have the same requirement and question
I don't think the +1 means yes but that he wants to know too. As do I. I never play RTS that don't allow paused orders.
Just tested in my old version of the game and you can give orders while in pause. It is however a very different RTS. Huge amount of troops, huge maps. You don't control single units. You link your units to heroes (i think about 50 per heroe).
^More gooder all around, thanks!

RTS games have gone out of style a little, but when they were all the rage I used to get frustrated by reading 5 reviews of a game and not a damn one of them would say whether you can give orders while paused.

Yes! The single most important requirement and they just would not address it. There have been a LOT of promising games that failed that litmus test.
Looks like the (dream?) Child step-aunt of Age of Empires and Hegemony? Will wait for some reviews, but I guess this one will have a hard time with AoE4 just around the corner.
Released today! 9.99! Kind of a no-brainer.
I'm concerned it is going to run like crap on a modern system and not hold up well.
I'll wait to hear from our resident expert.

I foolishly bought a magazine yesterday for $9.99 that I already have. I'm using that needless extra expense as a justification for holding off on this purchase. So far, it is having the intended psychological effect.
One thing, appears to be locked in at 1920x1080 resolution as being the highest although the screen looks serviceable. For $9, worth dabbling with it, likely won't be something I spend a lot of time with.
I feel a strong unreasonable affinity for this one. I think I could love it, long time.
Once Anguille gives his seal of approval.

Here i am!
Just tested one battle on my windows 10 Acer Nitro...runs very well.
Remember, it's an updated edition of a game that was released in...2004. There was a plan to release it worldwide back then but it never happened, so i played the spanish version. It's a cool and different type of RTS. For 10 Dollars, it's a no-brainer. I think it's really cool. Most negative reviews are from people who already played the original and expected a lot of new things but the HD version wasn't done by Haemimont. Anyway, very glad to have it finally on steam....

I've seen there's no manual, so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

^Ooh nice.
Reviews on Steam are at 'mostly negative' however :/
Just grabbed it and the interface is indeed obtuse and opaque. I must turn on tutorial mode.
Supply mechanic seems pretty cool. Graphics and animations are pretty hard on the eyes. Defo more age of empires than total war.
Guess the easiest comparison would be cossacks.

Mostly because of Italian and Spanish players who expected a much improved version of the original game (which they have played to death). But it's just an updated version of the original (Haemimont wasn't involved in the HD edition) and, for us outside of Spain and Italy, a game that we were not able to play before. It's an older game in 2d but it's a
good game, well worth the 10 dollars it costs. My humble opinion.
Imagine playing Starcraft for the first time.
I had this game before. Not on steam, but I was able to get it via digital download. I'll have to investigate where because I don't remember offhand.
Is this basically the same as Celtic Kings: Rage of War, or is it a totally different game?

I have it also from fxinteractive (spain).
It looks like this is a sequal to Celtic Kings: Rage of War, so maybe I didn't have it. It looks like I have Celtic Kings on GOG, but I could have sworn I had this one too.

They made 3 games with this engine:
Celtic Kings: Rage of War (Imperium I)
Celtic Kings: Punic Wars aka Nemesis of the Roman Empire (Imperium II)
Great battles of Rome (Imperium III)

Curious to hear your feedback once you have completed a scenario.
This is awesome...you two are like the Groghead's elite brigade of commandos who, through great personal risk and sacrifice, play the older and more obscure strategy titles out there in order to report back when the coast is clear for the rest of the team to advance.

Sorry i didn't see this:
The first game is mostly an adventure game around Larax.
Second game is about the Punic Wars (one campaign as Carthage and one as Rome)
Third game has many scenarios of battles against Rome and as many as Rome (no campaigns).

Indeed, it's somewhat similar to Praetorians.
This one's getting absolutely blasted in the Steam reviews. A number of reviews are focused on dumb tangential stuff like people getting banned on the official discord, and people being unhappy with the decision making of the dev team.
Funny enough, one of the positive reviews mentions "one of the most toxic communities you'll see in gaming." That appears to hold water. :-"

Taken on its own merits, its a good game for $10.
I read some of the Steam reviews as well, and they seem silly. And you are right about tangential stuff ... folks getting upset because the dev is an idiot when it comes to communicating with the fans.
The negative passion directed against the dev in the reviews kind of reminds me of reviews of Derek Smart's stuff....
But for me, there are just some simple things I look for in any game. Is the game fun or not? Is it well priced?
For me, the game does well in both of these... If you like RTS', particularly old fashioned ones, this is a good one.
^ Well said, I went ahead and picked it up because it seems like a steal for $10, and I never played the original so I have no room to feel screwed by the lack of new content.

Multiplayer is the main thing I purchased it for. But the game looks like it might run multiplayer on some patched up free VPN like himachi. If that does turn out to be the case I think it would barely make Steam's standard for claiming multiplayer and coop. I have a friend who would probably get it and play with me, but he is a technophobe that will struggle with anything barely technical like this.
I must say also. The troop types and skills are certainly not purely historical and some are just pure magic. But they fit the flavour of the period for superstitions and such.

In that case I heartily recommend the Hegemony series by Longbow Games, which is a bit like a simplified Total War but with a good logistics model. I have all the games in the series.
It's a lot of fun. Hegemony is Philip II Macedonians vs Greeks, Hegemony 2 is Caesar in Gaul, and Hegemony 3 is the rise of Rome in the Italian peninsula (Latin wars, Etruscans, Greeks etc).
