The Best "Intro" Wargame thread has inspired me to create a best "intro" in a game thread...if you can actually grab a link to the video, please post 'em!

I nominate WH40K: Dawn of War - PC

Killzone - PS2

The intro to Shogun 2 is one of the best I have ever seen even if it is a little "out there."

Yes! Emperor of the Fading Suns was very good! As was WH40K - DoW

I actually liked Sword of the Stars: Born of Blood quite a bit.

If we think classic games, Ultima 7: The Black Gate takes the cake. Of course, this is part nostalgia, as it was the first game I played after getting a Soundblaster and thus the first to have actual speech.
"Now it is no accident all these conservatives are using time travel to teach our kids. It is the best way to fight back against the liberal version of history, or as it is sometimes known... history."

- Stephen Colbert

"The purpose of religion is to answer the ultimate question, are we in control or is there some greater force pulling the strings? And if the courts rule that corporations have the same religious rights that we humans do, I think we'll have our answer."

- Stephen Colbert

I'm trying to think back to some classics. To be honest I can't remember most of the intros to all the MicroProse games I loved...

Martok

Birth of the Federation's remains a favorite of mine.  It really helps set the tone:

Not bad, although I still prefer the original:

Not alot of glitz but the intro for the original Fallout remains one of my favs for setting the tone for a game.

Battlefield 1942 and Jane's Longbow introductions really stirred my blood too.

I normally watch a game's intro once and never view it again. A couple of exceptions are the intro to Historyline 1914-1918 (its U.S. release was entitled The Great War: 1914-1918) and the trailer to StarCraft. Both have dated graphics and neither of them feature a battle scene similar to the one in WH40K: Dawn of War, but they were both original and appealed to me years ago.
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

Gusington

You're right Martok, the original Shogun intro was better! There was an alternate intro for Shogun: Mongol Invasion that was pulled from a movie that I can't seem to find. This one's a little over the top:

The original Mass Effect intro was very cinematic. It was the first time a game really pulled me in and immersed me from the get go.

Sir Slash

Planescape Torment. Once I saw the intro video, I was hooked on finding out who this poor tormented soul was.
"Take a look at that". Sgt. Wilkerson-- CMBN. His last words after spotting a German tank on the other side of a hedgerow.

"Now you will feel the tiger's claws!" I like that line.

WH40k must be my most played game of last year. All versions through Soulstorm The intro to WH40K 1 and 2 are both great.

SoM has the Original Warcraft in his avatar. That was a good intro.

Half-life

Battle for Middle Earth 2 had a good 1.

Battlefield Vietnam was good with good use of classic rock
