Title: Titans: Attack on Solomon Islands? (Fog of War ep from Wartime Stories)
Post by: JasonPratt on October 25, 2023, 09:16:10 PM
Not an amazing but controversial anime/manga, nor a reasonably good live-action adaptation of the same, nor even a mockbuster knockoff by Asylum or something like that! (Yet.)

Nope, this is the story of WW2 Japanese soldiers having to go up against, not only monstrous crocs and possibly a 30-foot-long prehistoric lizard in the SE theater (different video), but against cannibal giants.

Just in time for Halloween weekend!

(Note: this is basically a well-produced folk anthropology study.)

(And yes, modern Japanese cryptozoology fan-boards call them "Titans".)

Proof that Historical Fantasy is alive and well!

This guy gets 319K views for this video in thirteen days...must earn him a pretty penny.

Lizard-men (or titans, or whatever) are the new 'zombies.'

Pardon me while I fire up ChatGPT to write "Pride and Prejudice and Lizard Men"  :Dreamer:

It isn't historical fantasy, so much as research and reporting of local legends and myths. He thought the lizardmen, for example, were pretty far-fetched as a stretch from the original topic! -- but then he has an earlier video on stories about Vietnam War troops running into a group of lizardmen, so he did notice the similarity.

On the man-eating 'titans', he came up with at least one plausible mundane explanation (maybe two or three) for how the local legends developed, based on data traced through the stories. (Not that he's against the idea of less mundane explanations. {g} )
