Here is a peek at the Sponson's be damned scenario -- a purely imaginary ATS scenario.  The tiny Tunisian Village of La Saadia is held by a frankly terrified American platoon of ordinary people.
But they are just the bait.  The most hardened cases in the Wehrmacht Penal Korps (WPK) are about to attack in their B1 bis (which have a 75mm bow-mounted gun
superior to the sponson-mounted 75mm on the US Lee tanks).

When the platoon commander of the B1 bis platoon of the WPK (the most hardened of the creme de la Corps Penal) was warned that the Americans would be using
sponson-mounted guns, his only reply was a curt grunt and some handmotions that were interpreted as "Sponsons be damned" (in German, one hopes).

Few curt grunts can have been more eloquent, which is to suggest, maybe, that something bad happened after the curt grunt?  :-\

Curt Grunt sounds like an appropriate name for him - Oberfeldwebel Curt Grunt!!!!

Things (surprisingly?) did not go too well for OCG and his elite men.  The Lees rolled well and the American platoon's machine guns
messed up the Penal infantry.

What's next for La Saadia?  Let's see: first it was taken by the Americans from the French and then held onto by the Americans when the Germans attacked in
French tanks.  Next, the French should try to hold the place with British tanks reinforced by Brits in Italian tanks.  The Germans will try to take the place by leading the
attack deceptively with British tanks.
