Announced today, version II but in 3D...
Intriguing. :tanker1035:
Please say this is multiplayer this time around?
Ow, my loins!

I suspect not as they described it as the following, if something big like that would think it would be mentioned.
"Set against the tense backdrop of the Cold War, "Armored Brigade II" offers a plethora of enhancements and innovative features in comparison to its predecessor. The game shifts from a 2D to a more immersive 3D environment. Furthermore, it introduces a refined waypoint editor system, major improvements to the spotting sharing system, enhanced infantry mechanics, expanded fire and air support options, and many more novelties."
Thx grim.I got armored brigade 1 and it sits in my library because it's single player, barely touched. I just tend to spend my time on multiplayer games of the same ilk. A real shame because the deeper the game the more interested I am.
WARNO will have to suffice for my cold war wargaming in 3D.
I love Armored Brigade precisely because it is single player. Plenty of good multiplayer options out there.
Happy to hear this, but just hope they don't screw it up. I hope they keep the same level of editors available for users.

I don't see why a game cannot be both. Because there the multiplayer wargames (RTS/Operational/tactical etc) are well outnumbered by the single player only games I would say. A game does not have to be balanced and competitive for each side to be multiplayer, it just has to have the option for two people to play.

I'm fine with it being both.
I just like that Armored Brigade does consider SP content and prioritizes it.
Eugen games, the main competitor to games like AB, in my opinion consider Single Player to be a secondary consideration.

When it comes to AB. I just don't see how it could hurt it to have multiplayer. All it would be is the game as it stands with a multiplayer option. Not like Eugen games where balance for multiplayer is a major concern.
I think AB is more like combat mission or close combat on a larger scale, they both lend themselves to multiplayer without needing special attention for it.
You don't need a game to be multiplayer focussed for it to have multiplayer tacked on for those that want to enjoy other peoples company while giving vast numbers of hours that a deep game like AB takes.
Not sure if 3D is the way to go for this series.

On the one hand I agree, but on the other hand if this ends up being a worthy competitor to Combat Mission I'll be very happy.
But I can't help being reminded of Panzer Command: Ostfront which was another CM clone that arrived dead in the water.
As my sig might suggest, I do wish they would pick a more interesting setting (IMO) than hypothetical Cold War matchups...

There's the technical aspect to it as well I would say. Decent real-time MP must require a fair amount of coding infrastructure, as does creating decent AI opponent(s). Independent devs seem to be only able put their resources into one or the other.
That said, I'm happy to play wargames of whatever genre in SP, but FPSs and combat flightsims are now solely MP for me.
And, on topic, I do like the look of this.
Looks Combat Mission alike.
Too bad the video has no UI elements so that you can't actually tell what kind of game this will be.

I fell in love with AB. Hell, it's one of the few positive reviews I've ever left for a Steam game. And
AB 1943 is fuckin' awesome.

Agreed.
AB 1943 is very good. As are many of the mods. It's got some solid Vietnam maps and mods that work well and I've been fascinated by.
I think Armored Brigade is one of the more underrated wargames out there and I feel it has a very solid grasp on being something like a real time Steel Panthers.
I'm hoping the sequel is just as moddable and intuitive. And yeah, if it has multiplayer then all the better for those that want it.

Will this game be moddable like the first one? I LOVE that world war 2 mod someone made for AB 1

+1 Completely agree.
I wish the AI was better, but overall, one of the best games in the genre IMHO.
The open backend for modding is the most awesome part.
A new year, a new Dev Diary for Armored Brigade II. Today's topic focuses on the improvements we have done regarding infantry.

Yes, I believe that all old database mods and maps are compatible with the current game we have.

Yep, also I don't get how games can be so gung-ho about imaginary armored wars when the real war in the Ukraine suggests
you die gruesomely pretty fast no matter how much crunching electric guitar you have throbbing in your mind.
The fourth Dev Diary of Armored Brigade II is out now. The topic is "Motorized Infantry and Waypoint Editor".

I would love to know what the height maps are handled like this time around and if they need a separate screen to judge height with. I really hated that about the first game.
Ok no multiplayer, although if it ever comes it will be my prefered wego style and I assume only one friend vs another. This game still will not make my list. Even cmx2 has multiplayer.

In the new rendering engine you can take the camera down to the ground and see terrain elevation in a way that was impossible in AB1.

AB2 is based on the same foundation as the previous game, and the code structure (a work in progress since ~2005) doesn't allow multiplayer to be added easily. At the moment we don't have resources for such a monumental rework.
A real shame as even if players do not play multiplayer a lot practise single player knowing that one day the opportunity to playnwith friends or against them is an option. That is usually my philosophy when buying games. I want to know their is something more at the end of the single player experience with it's often limited AI.
You have a lot of competition in this area of which most have multiplayer:
Warno
Combat mission
Broken arrow
Plus a tonne of operational level games that often have multi
I will stick to warno but know that I would probably like your game better if it had multiplayer coop.

There is also a large contingent of people that like this type of game and don't have any desire to have a multiplayer component. Moreover, they lament the amount of developer time that has recently been devoted to multiplayer at the expense of the single player experience.
There are a lot of multiplayer wargames, but there is still a market for single player wargames. It is a rare specimen, and often requires a large budget, to pull off both with one title.
Combat mission is only PVP. I'd love to see them add coop. You could finally pull off the multi battalion scenario by delegating different taskforces to your buddies.

Missed opportunity as far as I am concerned. I know I am in the minority on this forum when it comes to multiplayer and thus will be outgunned on this topic. But that's fine. I often lament the time spent developing for console and other games for single player. But for games like armored brigade... this game is one best served against or with a human player where possible. As for single player being rare.... it was the rule for wargames for a very long time. 1v1 being the only relief. Then we got more coop games and now we are still limited when it comes to pure wargames. It's rare with the more complicated wargames to get anything but 1v1 still.
What will you do when A.I. comes proper to play against? Now that would be something. It's coming. Nvidia already has a service for it as do many other startups.
