SWEET
Wow! That's quite the announcement trailer. :notworthy:
Impressive. Too bad the game will look noting like that.

Yeah, that looks more like the chapter cinematics they had in the last couple of games for the incomprehensible "story."
My hope is that they pretend Diablo III never happened and finally give us what we've been waiting on all these years: Diablo II with modern graphics.
I've actually grown somewhat fond of D3 some time ago.
I've been thinking of getting back into it, as I've yet to have all classes in max level.
D3 is great for shutting your brain off and killing 1 million small demons and one larger one.
Yeah, true. And the PS4 version is good for couch co-op. My boy loves to play it with me.
Just watched the trailer...has to be one of the best ever produced, regardless of what the game is like.
Interesting. I have to confess, I've never played any of the Diablo games. Not sure why, I just haven't.
I'm aware that 3 is generally considered sub-par, but that the first two are good. Here's hoping IV is a return to form.
3 was considered subpar because the base game was pretty light on content on release. It was a typical modern day game launch; get it out there and we'll fix and add along the way.
Then there was the cartoony art style that many didn't like too much.
Aside from the artstyle I think the complete package as it runs now is considered to be a good game. Its just a typical 'modern day' game with lots of 'keep running on the threadmill' stuff to seduce you to get to the carrot.
That trailer scared the crap out of me :hide:
That was an awful good trailer. Knowing nothing yet about the D4 game play, I am curious as to why, with sufficient production budget, it seems much easier to make a great trailer than to make a great game?
I hope D4 is as good as the trailer. Because that trailer was AWESOME...
There is a gameplay trailer floating around - it isn't instantly recognizable as Diablo, for better or worse.
One of the only game memories I have of being betryed by a friend was in diablo2. I kept giving my coop mate gear because he was very "hungry" and I did not care. He ended playing higher levels and would not come back to help me level.
Also my first experience of being ganked was online as lvl1. People of lvl50 would come down and get you only five minutes into playing.
Oh and my first experience of a sore mouse finger. I have to say, without some kind of auto attack I just cannot see myself clicking on very itty bitty monster through dungeons
Never played any after Diablo 1. I wonder how much they spent on that trailer. Very impressive.

Ditto. :hide: I mean there's some parts of Diablo 1 that had my skin crawling even Darkest Dungeon has that effect.

During a panel about the game an answer from lead designer Angela Del Priore confirms the game will be online-only. "We are not going to support an offline mode," Del Priore said. "But as I said before, nothing in Diablo 4 is going to require partying up. You can play solo and dungeons are private. Campaign quest areas will remain private." GameSpot has separately confirmed this with Blizzard, adding an endorsement of the plan, saying: "At BlizzCon, we played some of Diablo 4 and felt that the 'live' aspect of the game introduced something new to the franchise."

Diablo 3 is already like this.

It's too bad they didn't make the console games online only... people easily figured out to hack it, and cheating was rampant.

I've only played the PS4 version of D3 a bit (got it originally because it supported couch multiplayer), but is it really fully offline singleplayer and you can cheat in it???

If you play offline, and don't want to cheat, you're fine. But if you go online and get into a game where someone is cheating, it can affect you also. One example is someone using an experience cheat... you could inadvertently gain hundreds of levels quickly by being in the game with them.

Well, scratch this game off my watch list. (Hey, I've got plenty more still waiting to be played.) Thanks, Pete.
So who is planning to buy this as official release is on June 6th, unless you purchase one of their upgraded packages to get early access on June 1st? Although I just recently purchased version 3 a few weeks back when on sale, didn't get time to play it much...but with all the hype, I got sucked into a pre order and currently pre loading right now.
No idea if it will click with me but initial reviews seem favorable.
I broke my usual rule and bought the pre-order and played through the two "betas". I played Diablo to the end back in the day, and I bought 2 and 3 but never really played them so my only real reference is the first game. So having said that, I had fun in the two beta sessions, played 2 characters to 20 or 25 or whatever the goal was and am looking forward to playing the full game on release. I don't have any pre-conceptions from D2 or D3, so I just played what was in front of me and I had fun. It's not my usual fare, and won't likely end up on my greatest games list, but I think I'll get my $$$ worth out of it.
I am definitely getting it.
I pre-ordered the digital deluxe edition, so I'm very much looking forward to playing it this weekend. I played both beta sessions with the sorceress and had a blast. I very much like the dark and moody aesthetic of this new Diablo compared to Diablo 3.
After 44 reviews so far, the metascore for Diablo is 88 so sounds promising.
GIGGITY
Gotta love these always online games...attempting to get access to the game today, and greeted with this. I know probably just due to its release a few minutes ago, but hopefully doesn't last long as there is a reason I purchased early access...not to wait to log in:)

I haven't had to wait long to log in, but waiting at all for a single-player game is kind of ... :nono2:
More problematic is that you can't pause to take a phone call and respond to your marital unit or whatever. I would never have shelled out there premium bucks if I had known that beforehand.
The game itself is fun, with the exception of a couple of boss battles, particularly one early one (Vhenard). But a game with 30-minute missions that you can't pause and you can't save in the middle of is not my cup of tea.
The game is pretty and the loot is free flowing but it gets pretty repetitive veryfast. I'm only lvl 46 and I feel like NOT finishing
There is no pause??
You can hit escape to go to the menu, but the menu appears over the screen and if you're in the middle of combat, combat continues, and if you're not it might start. The only way to pause is to go to a safe space like a town.
wtf
I'm having more fun with it than I expected. Combat is well-balanced and you actually get better at it as you play more.
And the issue with no pause isn't quite as bad I thought: as long as you're out of combat you can teleport back to town. Town is a safe space where you can take a few minutes off to attend to the spousal unit/real world/whatever, and then you just teleport straight back to where you were.
I just wish you could change difficulties on the fly instead of having to leave the game and come back. That's problematic because it's always a frustrating boss that makes you want to dumb it down, and the bosses are always at the very end of a long dungeon. And guess what, the portal to travel back to where you were disappears when you exit the game and the dungeon resets to boot. So if you want to reduce the difficulty to defeat a tough boss bear in mind you will have to go through the whole dungeon again, not just pop out, change, and come straight back to the boss.

I don't mind either about having to teleport back to town in order to pause the game. It's a nonissue for me. And yeah, it sucks you can't change the difficulty whenever you want. The other night I played through a large dungeon and had a rough time beating the boss at the end of it. Instead of reducing the difficulty and starting the dungeon over, I refunded my nodes and picked some new skills for my necromancer. I also changed her weapon to a two handed sword which inflicted more damage. I was finally able beat the boss with this new configuration. It took some work but I ended up having a blast kicking the shit out of that demon.
I went with using my Xbox gamepad with Diablo 4 on PC as I find it more comfortable. I'm still pretty new to this (still between lvl 20-30 Barbarian 'TheHound'), but getting the hang of it with that class and experiment before I try out the other classes. I find it ok for some casual short gaming sessions. Aiming to get through the Eternal quest first before trying out any Seasonal for now. Definitely fun if you get a few 'mates together on a dungeon run.
