Title: Problem with site
Post by: kam9999 on December 19, 2022, 12:31:16 PM
I did try to find a link to email you about this rather than posting a message.

Several times yesterday on my iPad (using Safari), I was redirected to a porn site when I clicked on the Grogheads Forum Link.

Today, I have had the exact same issue on my Desktop, using Chrome.

You may have a problem?

You mean...this ISN'T a porn site? I'm leaving.  :P   No problems here.

I just tested it a couple of times, nothing out of the ordinary happened.

It happens only very occasionally and very randomly.

Does it happen with any other links or website?  You might be infected with malware.

I was on a fair amount yesterday with no problem.  I suspect you have some malware

That was my initial thought.

But it has happened on an iPad and a PC, and only on the Grogheads website.

It happened to me too (Firefox) !

And it doesn't happen on other sites.   I Have AVG running and I also use Malwarebytes.

But I always use this link to access the forums : http://www.grogheads.com/forums/index.php?wwwRedirect;board=5.
This shows me the Computer Gaming sub forum.

I'll try a few times using the homepage to find out if it makes a difference.

That is really weird. I am constantly loading the site and nothing like this has ever happened.

Next time it happens can you please take screenshots (nothing explicit) showing the links and any other information that could possibly be used to investigate this. Unless we can reproduce it on our end, it will be difficult to come up with a solution.

You can send info and attachments to craigh@grogheads.com.

Thanks.

I got redirected to a pron site the other day on my work computer.  Keep in mind my work computer has all the latest high tech security on it.

Today I was redirected to another site that looked like Microsoft.  It claimed I needed to scan my computer for malware.  If it happens again I'll post a screenie.

Yup, scared me to death.  I scrubbed my browsing history that day so the work admin won't think I'm up to no good.

How is it possible for something like this to happen?

Why would it be intermittent and only sometimes? Why would it happen seemingly at random to some and not others?

Maybe there is nothing going on here at all, but an actual coincidence that it happened to two or three members who actually are infected with malware on their own devices.

The fact that W8's work computer can even get to a naughty site makes me think that it might be user infection.

Not that I wish infection on any member, but I hope so!  :-[

I can't explain it.  And that is also the reason I didn't post this before.
It also doesn't happen two times in a row.   So far even never more than once in a day.

I just ran a few scans again and my system still looks clean.

The sites that appear all look like popup ads (free webcams, shady anti virus software, ...).

FWIW, I've never experienced a bad redirect here.  To be fair, though, I usually come directly to the forums rather than the main page link.  I tried it now from the main page a few times and it worked properly.

Years ago, maybe 7-8 years ago or more, something identical happened with the main page IIRC but I rarely go there now and haven't heard reports of anything like that since then, until today.

I also access the forums by the saved direct link in my history.  So today, the glitch only occurred once.  I did not see this behavior on my home computer.

Yes, this happened to me last night, once. I clicked on my forum link in Firefox and up popped a website full of illustrated porn links. I closed the browser, ran ccleaner and Bitdefender, and it has not happened again. No malware was reported.

Disturbing.

^Too many people to be a coincidence now. JH and I are discussing options.

This may have happened to me once as well and just recently.  I have a MS Edge icon in my taskbar.  I have it setup so when I click the icon, it opens only Grogheads and WOWS.  I think it was last week, maybe the week before?, but when I clicked the MS Edge icon, two websites opened, WOWS and something else.  I don't remember it being a pron site, as that would have really concerned me.  I just tossed it off as the internet getting its wires crossed, closed both tabs and tried it again.  Grogheads and WOWS came up as expected...

OK, unbelievable but just happened to me again.  Clicked on the MS Edge icon in my taskbar and this is what popped up instead of Grogheads.  I killed both tabs and immediately ran Malwarebytes and Bitdefender.  Both came up clean.  So far I've only seen this when running MS Edge, not Chrome.

p.s.  I just went and checked the settings for the MS Edge startup pages.  I have Grogheads set to:

Similar things happen to me me on my work computer too.

Several times a day.

Weird how it just keeps happening.....

(In seriousness I haven't been able to replicate this on several browsers.  Very weird.)

Every once in a while, I am not able to get to Grogheads, while at the same time other sites work well.

I'd say it happens once every two months or so, and lasts about one or two hours.

I've always wondered if it is due to maintenance, somewhere along the chain.

Sorry.  Making a bad joke about my work computer also being my personal one hence odd browsing history.

I actually tried loading the site of Chrome/Edge and Firefox and it seemed fine, even on the mythical front page.

Loads fine on my Android tablet too.   Also no issues with or without ad or popup blockers and no issues after clearing the cache.

Steve that's the same Microsoft popup I got this morning.  I'm using Brave browser both at home and at work.

Is the issue possibly related to Grogheads.com being non-secure (e.g. not https)?  Maybe there's a third party intercepting 1/nth of traffic requests and redirecting them elsewhere?

At one time they suggested everyone reset (turn off and on ) their router as they can be infected also.  Except it doesn't get flashed into memory so power cycle clears it.  Could this be a possibility?
