I saw this one yesterday and thought it was one of the best films I've seen in years. Kevin Costner produced and co-wrote this, the first chapter of 4 planned. It runs 3 hours and while the movie gets a little hard to follow at times telling multiple stories simultaneously, it's very compelling to watch, well-acted, and intense at times. A very honest and ugly look at the Old West frontier from all sides without any obvious attempt to portray any one faction as Good or Bad. Not a lot of action, but the action scenes are quite intense and realistic. Gorgeous scenery thrown-in for good measure. The end is a bit of a disappointment, not ending, just dissolving into scenes from the next film. Still a great Western...finally!
"Take a look at that". Sgt. Wilkerson-- CMBN. His last words after spotting a German tank on the other side of a hedgerow.
