Cr@p...missed it. Thats what I get for working on my taxes. >:(
That requires Perseverance too. :2funny:
Indeed. ;D
Watched the 6pm press conference yesterday and had flashbacks to working in the R&D industry. First 15 minutes was all managers kissing each others ass and thanking everyone. Finally real engineers and team leads got to talk about what had and will happen with project. We had a process at work once where they asked us what our pet peeves were. One of mine was managers who stop by to thank me for my hard work when they have absolutely no idea what I did.
^Your last line there is my entire work existence.

Wait ! Is your work 'statistical factoring and data reconfiguration' ?
Yeah, my old boss would tell everybody how important to the work I was then quietly ask me, "What's your name again"?
On my first job out of college, the boss came by and said I need to produce a report on which data bus we should use in the project (a government job). I asked if the report's conclusion should be the data bus we were already buying parts for? He said I should pick whichever one is best for the job. Being no dummy, the report chose the bus we were already buying.

Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter also captured a stunning view of Perseverance from space. Its photo shows Perseverance hanging from its parachute, the largest ever built for another world, as it plunged through the Martian atmosphere.

Awesome shots! Nerdtastic!
Frickin incredible. Finally a plus for 2021. O0
Suddenly feeling an urge to run off and fire up Kerbal Space Program to try (:2funny:) to duplicate a skycrane rover mission.
In that last photo, the little white circle is the location of the alien wreckage that they want to scavenge technology from.

+1 I vote we officially started 2021 yesterday.
It's pretty amazing, can't wait for the high def video and pictures on Monday.
I think I can see the face of Jar Jar Binks in the rock formations in front of the Rover. It-sa NOT pretty. ;D Seriously, great time to be alive and watching. Imagine what the old Explorers/Astronauts would think of what we've done.
"Ingenuity" the drone helicopter is the part I am most stoked about. Ingenuity has checked in as 'good to go'.

I can't remember which astronaut I saw on the news but he was also nerdgasming at the drone helicopter a few days ago.
LOL at the pic above, SDR. Epic!

I'm also very interested in Ingenuity. It has been deployed to the Mars surface and has made it through it's first Martian night.

First flight will be no earlier than April 11. :bd:

Wow, -130 degrees F during the Martian night!

Ingenuity set to fly Sunday, 8pm PST.

1st flight postponed again, due to a software glitch.
Quote
Now, the Ingenuity team has said a solution to the problem has been found, but it means they have to reinstall the little helicopter's flight software.
This means the test flight date must be pushed back again by an unknown number of days. NASA is aiming to set a new date next week.

Glitch. Yeah. Right. They don't have the balls to admit that they cannot get flight plan approval from Mars Air Control for an unlicensed, rickety foreign drone.
Looks like Perseverance and Ingenuity may get has some company in a few days: China Mars Rover to Land Between Saturday and Wednesday (https://www.newsmax.com/scitech/china-space-mars-mission-rover/2021/05/14/id/1021362/) China now says Mars Rover has Landed (https://www.foxnews.com/world/china-says-it-has-landed-its-first-probe-on-mars)
