^boy do I remember Final Liberation. One of the greats. It's on GoG, but I don't think it aged too well.

I don't see how they will do any better with Star Wars or 40k then. Perhaps they intend to do Star Wars clone wars and 40k imperial guard "wall of men marching" style battles. If however we end up with flag wars again where I see none of the action but do see a whole bunch of flags, I probably won't bite.

Remember 40k Final Liberation? That is what I would want in a Total War 40k.
Oh look I can see the units clearly even though I am zoomed out;

Quote from: Skoop on May 17, 2024, 07:28:24 PMThe master modes is pretty hotly contested in the community. It was an attempt to mold combat into something beyond everyone jousting back n forth at high speed.

All it's done is flip the meta. Now everyone looks for the fastest ships, which are really lite weight fighters, and run everyone down before they can switch to the mode to quantum away.

I haven't spent any time with it really, just watched a bunch of streamers take on it.  Could be not a big deal.

Tbh I thought combat was fine the way it was.  They spent so much time on the master modes, it looks like a reinventing the wheel situation here.  I'd rather they invested the time into AI crewman.

Before 3.23, I played a bunch, figured out how to capture AI ships with the AI still in the turrets.  It was a small taste of how fun large ships will be with all your turrets manned with AI.

I completely agree. However I must admit that I do like being a little closer to the action now that ships are slower. You get to see the enemy ships at closer ranges for longer and you dogfight a little more than previously. It's more possible than before to circle onto somebodies tail. Also keeps little ships in range of less manoeverable ships turrets for longer, because bullets and laser bolts still travel at the same speeds as before. Less boom n zoom and more circling around targets.

^At least the 'indefinitely delayed' WWI game was supposedly postponed because of trouble developing a new engine.

If this is true they will need to fix their engine so I can see things. I want these games! I just cannot see CA creating something that works well and looks good.

Hard to believe EUIV was 11 years ago.  I've pretty much checked out of Paradox titles completely after the mess that was Vicky 3, though I won't be surprised if I end up caving and buying EUV at some point anyways...

This is an ex paradox community manager who i follow for my Aurora 4x advice, and he has a couple of discussions on the upcoming EUV - which despite the first discussion has gone way past rumour and into actual dev logs

Quote from: Gusington on Yesterday at 02:45:59 PMPaying attention to important stuff seems more and more difficult.

I think it's grown more and more difficult for policy makers to pay attention to important stuff because money rules American politics these days, and special interests are extremely well-positioned to use money to influence incumbent politicians.

I think it's grown more and more difficult for the public to pay attention to important stuff because the Internet mass media algorithms have figured out how to serve us a steady diet of confirmation bias and outrage, so it gets easier and easier to live in our own little information bubble.  That tends to make us overlook information that might tell us that the world is changing and new stuff is becoming important.

Well seeing that empire at war is the best Star Wars game of all time and no chance in hell for that series getting revived, smart play going total war Star Wars.  It will be interesting to see how they do space combat and planet combat, it could be really cool.

I hope the space combat allows boarding ships with animated boarding battles inside the ships.

Or space battles that transition to planet battles or orbit to planet battles.

As you can see, total war stars wars will be a big feat.  If they simply cut and paste Star Wars into the total war system, it will be lame.  If they take the time to do it right, it could be epic.
