Who still uses pagers?  Actually, I suppose they are safer than cell phones because they can't be tracked (no GPS).  Never mind.

+1 Israel.  My experience with pagers was very limited and short-lived a few decades ago.  I do remember carrying one around in my jeans front pocket.  Something tells me 72 virgins aren't going to be interested in some of these terrorists.  :justice:

Will be interesting to get the details.  Software virus to overheat batteries?  Explosives built into the pager??   :headscratch:

From what I've heard the IDF also was able to get a list of names of those who had to be admitted into hospitals for injury treatment.  This is a victory on so many different levels and is unprecedented.

QuoteYahya Ayyash was a terrorist and a member of Hamas.

Ayyash was born on March 6, 1966, in Rafat near Nablus. He completed his secondary school education in Rafat with excellent grades that qualified him to study engineering at Beir Zeit University. Ayyash received a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1988. He became active in the ranks of Ezzul Deen Al Qassam Brigades at the beginning of 1992, where he specialized in making explosives from raw materials available in the Palestinian territories. He is credited with introducing the technique of suicide bombing in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Ayyash became one of the chief bomb-makers for Hamas. In that capacity, he earned the nickname "the Engineer." The bombings he orchestrated caused the deaths of more than 70 Israelis.

He was killed by the Israeli Shin Bet on January 5, 1996, following a massive manhunt. Israeli agents were able to compromise one of Ayyash's fellow Hamas members, who gave him a cell phone full of explosives. When they confirmed Ayyash was using it, the Shin Bet detonated it, killing him instantly.

I never understood the 72 virgins thing. I'd be much happier with 2-3 whores.

Hezbollah is now Heznoballah

memes aside,
this has a nice psycholical effect  ... lot of Hezbollah members and supporters will feel now unsecure using any kind of technology that recieves radio signals, if that item was not build by and inside Iran and transported to Lebanon/Syria under constant personal oberservation and even that is no warranty

Looks like the pager manufacturer also diversified into handheld radios:

In a second day of exploding devices, hand-held radios used by Hezbollah detonated late Wednesday afternoon across southern Lebanon and in Beirut's southern suburbs, a security source and a witness told Reuters.

At least one of the blasts occurred near a funeral organized by the Iran-backed Hezbollah for those killed the previous day, when thousands of pagers used by the group exploded across the country, wounding many members of the terrorist group.

Hezbollah's Al Manar TV reported explosions in multiple areas of Lebanon, which it said were caused by detonating walkie-talkies.

The Epoch Times has not been able to independently corroborate these claims.

On Tuesday evening local time, Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported that some 2,800 people were injured in the pager blasts and eight more were killed, including a child. The National News Agency reported that most people injured in the mass pager explosions sustained injuries to their hands.

Among those reported killed on Tuesday was Mahdi Ammar, the son of a Hezbollah-affiliated member of the Lebanese Parliament named Ali Ammar.

On Tuesday, the Taiwanese pager manufacturer whose branding appeared on the remnants of beepers that exploded in Lebanon claimed they were manufactured by another company in Hungary.

The model of pagers used in the detonations in Lebanon was made by Budapest-based BAC Consulting, the Taiwanese firm Gold Apollo said.

The firm added that it had only licensed its brand to the company and was not involved in the production of the devices.

The Epoch Times has reached out to BAC Consulting for comment.

Collateral damage is sad.

Hezbollah damage, much less sad.

There seems to be some support for the report that radios are now exploding.  This film was allegedly shot at the funeral of one of the Hezbollah terrorists killed yesterday by an exploding pager.  Apparently, one of the walkie talkies used by a funeral participant went off.  As an aside, I thought the "exploding pager" operation was one of the top covert operations of all time.  But to immediately follow it up with exploding radios?  Sublime brilliance.

When they get to exploding carrier pigeons then we will have reached a level of awesomeness that requires a new catch phrase for intelligence ops

Absolutely.  +2000 operatives have been killed or wounded, and the C3I network severely damaged.  With this level of compromise, Hezbollah must be worried about whether other communications networks/methods are compromised.  At this point, anything that doesnt' explode will be viewed with suspicion that it has been tapped. And they will be individually petrified of the possibility that Israel has more in store for them.  Their OODA loop just got very long.
