This thread is to gauge interest in starting an AoW 3 Play by Email game.
Required are the base game and its two expansions.

PBEM has been added as a MP feature in one of the later patches. Many don't even seem to know its has been added to the game; I didn't before a few days ago!

It opens up a wonderful game to a much broader audience who love to play MP but like to play their turn at their leisure without having to align several people's agenda's to meet online!

So, who has the full game and likes some Fantasy 4x multiplayer?

We can kick this off with a minimum of 3 players, but more if preferable!

However, if pilots would need to do daily what they are capable of doing, nobody would dare to fly anymore."

I suppose we'd have to autoresolve combat? If so, then how well does the autoresolve work for that game? (I've played the game a little, and I have both of the expansions, but I've never autoresolved combat yet.)

I was wondering about that as well, but I am not sure actually. Let me check and find out more.

Found a dev diary about the feature.

The nice part about it is that all turn info is stored on their central server! So there is no fiddling about with emails and such.
The host just starts a game and people who want to play just join in like a normal multiplayer game.
Then when the host kicks off, people will get their notifications sent to their Triumph Studios email or perhaps their Steam notifications, that's not clear.

As for combat being auto resolve only I haven't found anything yet to confirm nor deny this.

Tested it, but indeed combat against human players is auto resolve only.

A test game has been created called 'Groggies Shardfall' . (Use in game menu)
Pw is grogs4tw

Those interested feel free to join the game and await liftoff!

I'll install tonight (assuming I remember ;) ), and try the test game connection.

I'm having to resolve some account problems -- since apparently I already made an account but didn't bother to save my password anywhere, and it wasn't apparently anything that I can guess I would have used.

But the game is installed (through GoG), so perhaps by tomorrow afternoon I'll have solved that issue.  :P

After some experimentation this afternoon, I decided that the system only thought I had registered since someone else had already chosen my username; which I confirmed by picking a name I'm sure no one else would use. ;)

This however led back to the problem of registration, since although supposedly the reg code is under the "more" tag for my installer, I couldn't find it anywhere there. Possibly a fault of GoG Galaxy (their Steam-esque installation management system.) I've opened a support ticket.

Turns out, GoGGalaxy doesn't bother with things like registration codes, even when games need them.  ::)

Fortunately tech support let me know that I could access the codes through the GoG website instead, so that worked.

My character is up and has joined the game. Now, to search for my Solium Infernum disc...

Great you've been able to fix your issues!

The game turn interval is set at 5 days for this intro game. It means you have 5 days to play your turn, otherwise the game will automatically move to the next turn and you will stale your turn without orders (except build queues).

The game might be a little bit too large for the two of us, though; Its a 6 player map with us against 4 AI.
I thought more people would be interested in joining AoW 3.
At least we've confirmed the PBEM system works fine (if you have now received notification of your turn!). Let me know if you want to restart the game into something smaller or if we plod ahead against 4 AI (Knight and Lord difficulty).

On a funny note; my very first battle just outside my Town's perimeter against some spectral independents resulted in a wipe of my army! The game stated I went in for a 'Likely victory' on auto-combat, lol! I guess I need to re-learn how to properly do manual combat. :D

That auto-resolve feature sounds terrifying.  :buck2:

Still, if it's just the two of us, perhaps we could do manual battles.

I'm okay plodding ahead against 4 AI. Assuming perhaps we team up?

I got back to the house only around 8pm, so after doing my Grogpublic umping duties I'm pretty wiped. I should be able to get my 1st Turn done tomorrow afternoon tho.

(And look for my Solium Infernum disc. ;) )

JasonPratt

Before I play my next turn, do you want to restart so that you aren't rooked by the flaky auto-resolve AI out of the gate?

Since it's asynch, we can play our battles manually until and unless we fight each other (presumably).

Also, if you wanted to start with a more minimal beginning, that would be okay with me; I'm good either way.  O:-)
