Ashley Madison Totally Fake

A reporter from Gizmodo has spent some time analyzing the data from the Ashley Madison hack and determined that the overwhelming number of women's accounts were completely fake.

The article is actually a really cool glimpse into simple data analysis for any would-be cyber sleuths out there.

What I discovered was that the world of Ashley Madison was a far more dystopian place than anyone had realized. This isn't a debauched wonderland of men cheating on their wives. It isn't even a sadscape of 31 million men competing to attract those 5.5 million women in the database. Instead, it's like a science fictional future where every woman on Earth is dead, and some Dilbert-like engineer has replaced them with badly-designed robots.

The evidence is pretty overwhelming that the female accounts were almost completely created "in house."

If I had to speculate on a motive, I'd say that the hacker used the account, was dissatisfied with the results, hacked into the site to see what was going on behind the scenes, and then exposed the data when he discovered that there were 30 million real men chasing about 1500 real women.
