^Yes! I've been having issues with the mouse where camera control is concerned.

Also, I agree with SDR...Naval gunfire support is massively powerful.  Its like someone is dropping 2,000 pound bombs, or the USS Iowa is off coast.  Still, the concept is very cool and watching a well placed volley come down sure is fun as hell!

Thanks jh.  Very much unplayable for me because if these control issues.  Hope fixed soon.

Grim...can't you just try to use the keyboard controls for camera movement? That's what I've been doing mostly.

I could and will in the short term but using the keyboard for camera movement seems very unnatural to me in a game like this.  Very used to using only the mouse.

Ack!

I find myself using the keyboard far more, especially for camera controls, due to carpal tunnel really taking over as I get older.   Especially on widescreens these days, panning at the edge of the screen repeatedly gets pretty painful.  :P

And here I thought my eyesight would go first after staring into CRT monitors so much..  :o

fran

Tried running shogun2 after the patch and had a adobe install go wrong after that i am getting game unavailable msg, downloading from steam again

Really?  I still use the keyboard controls alot in both the original STW and MTW.

Yep, for me it is.  I do most of my actions using the mouse in these kind of games, especially screen movement.  Regardless, I think both options should remain so people can use their preference.  It seems if a graphic covers the edge of the screen is when the mouse is prevented.

My copy arrived this afternoon! Now I am torn. Curious about the Wing Commander release, enchanted with my current Skyrim campaign and now FOTS. Such a delicious gaming dilemma.

Damn...just hit the Realm Divide again.  At least it doesn't seem as bad as before.  Now, you have the option of supporting your side (the Emperor or the Shogunate) and those allied to the cause will stick with you, or you can make a grab for total control yourself and then everyone declares war on you.

jomni

Ah so we still have Realm Divide in Fall of the Samurai.

BTW, the keyboard camara control scheme is very intuitive compared to other previous schemes as it is similar to FPS. :)

Currently having a blast.

some comments I posted in Wargamer:

1. Clash of cultures is interesting.   You get to choose to specialise in modern or traditional warefare or even mix.  This leads to interesting strategies and tactics.  At first I was really confused about the pros and cons of the units. But eventually I got the hang of it.  Basically traditional units are good in melee and are armored while modern units are unarmored and are good at shooting.    You would basically like to be modern but the traditional units are very good anti-cavalry units.  Binging along pure spear formations won't hurt.   A cavalry charge on modern line infantry will quickly make them rout since they are not armed with bayonettes like the ones in Empire or Napoleon.

2. Artillery is so strong.  A direct hit can decimate half a unit.   Don't know if I like this or not but it does add some scary moments.

3. Related to #2.  Castles are very fragile as they are historically made of light material.  Hiding behind the wall may sound nice but they can blow up and cause massive casualties.

4. Navies are really important because of the bombard factor.  Japanese units and castles can't withstand these bombardments as mentioned before.  This is probably the reason why the Japanese are so scared of Perry's black ships.

5. I like the new portraits.  These look like colorized photograhs that is popular during the time.

6. I have experienced increased load times before and after battles compared to before.

7.  Is it just me or Geisha and Ninja actions costs more gold here than in the previous campaigns?

Just got an email from Gamestop that they are giving away a digital copy of Shogun 2 with purchase of Fall of the Samurai until April 2. Pretty sweet if you don't have Shogun 2 yet!

Yeah, artillery is very deadly.

Geisha and Shinobi actions do cost more than before, but you also make tonnes more money.  I'm earning 15,000/turn right now.

Wish you could pick which western power to trade with, but you're kinda stuck with whoever shows up first (you can say no, but the power gets pissy and makes you suffer.)
I got stuck with the Yanks so I got US Marines.  Disappointing as I was looking forward to getting Royal Marines.

Just played my first couple of hours of FOTS...really impressive.

I love the new art style too...almost a steampunk flavor to the portraits. It took a lot of effort for me to grab my first province...the AI is no push over and replenishes its losses quickly. Took me 6 or 7 battles to whittle him down and finally eliminate that faction, had to auto-resolve the last 3. Also victimized myself with friendly fire from my own ships...naval bombardments are quite powerful in the tactical game.

There also seems to be many more clans than there were in the other campaigns...a lot more than I expected, probably close to 40 or so. Four or five have already been eliminated.

I finally got this today, and the first thing I noticed was AI weirdness - Playing as the Jozai, starting at war with my neighbor to the North, the Koga. It's Winter, and we both have armies standing at the border, staring at each other, waiting for Spring.  The big difference is I have a couple of gunboats, but he apparently has no navy at all.

So while waiting for nicer weather, I decide to see if I can bombard his army that's just sitting there, and how he will react.  I spent the next 3 months lobbing shells into his camp, killing off units and members of the General's (the Daimyo) retinue, and the army never moved.  Even though they could have moved out of the range of my gunboats and remained in the same province, it never did.  It just sat there, getting shelled.

Granted, I started on "easy" just to get a feel for the new mechanics, but geez.......

There are folks who criticize the TW series for its lackluster AI. I'm sure if we sat around here long enough we could come up with some abstract excuse as to why they did what they did.

But you wouldn't be the first who had issues with the strategic AI.
