In the USA at least, this is a very easy procedure with almost immediate positive wonderful outcomes!  Hope that is the case for you!

As you may or may not know, I work for ophthalmologists and they do many such operations every year. (Caveat: I myself work mostly with eyeglasses and contact lenses and have no professional expertise in other areas of eye health).

Not everyone ends up with perfect vision but almost all do end up requiring less strong glasses for distance, especially if they had a fairly strong prescription to start. You will most likely still require something to help you read, though there are some newer multifocal lens implants in limited use. There are advantages and disadvantages to both monofocal and multifocal implants. Read up a little on the implants if your surgeon gives you the option of choosing which one you can get. Here in the US the out-of-pocket cost to go with the multifocal implant can run up to $2000-$3000 per eye.

Thanks for that, Stagger, I was aware that you were employed in some capacity in that sphere of work, so what you say is appreciated . I have been told that I may only need reading glasses, but I am myopic anyway, so I guess I'll have to wait and see ( no pun intended - not this time, anyway).
