I, too, was thinking of the original UFO/Xcom. Even without modern updates of the original code, it's still uniquely functional for what it does.

Tunnels of Doom was fantastic.  And it had 10 levels, not 100.

I have a game I play sometimes still called, Red Sky at Morning.  Operational level modern naval warfare.  Graphics are really basic, but it's a pretty interesting sandbox simulation.  Unfortunately, I've never been able to figure out how to actually save a game, and it takes a while to finish (I never have), so that makes it tough to invest too much time into.  It's a perfect game for a re-write, though.  Gameleaper could probably do it.
