Post by: lecrop on September 11, 2019, 05:43:08 AM
Hello, I'm an impatient GS backer.

I am sorry for the delay. I recently posted about it here: http://general-staff.com/
I also sent out emails to all Kickstarter backers. Did you get it?
The AI is taking longer than anticipated and I apologize for this. I'm hoping that we can be in beta test for the game soon.
As always, you should feel free to email me directly.

Hello. I wonder if the game still fall wide of the mark?
Thanks.

Sorry, i don't follow your question.
There is still a lot of work to do on the game.
Since I'm writing that and Ezra is doing the AI, I don't follow why he's saying writing the AI is or was.holding the game work up.
The game will eventually need to use his AI but that dependency is some way off.

As it turns out Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo doesn't feel at all benign whilst you're suffering from it.
I'm now recovering from what was a completely disabling inner ear problem.
The anti-nausea drugs I've been on mean reduce the symptoms at the price of substantial side effects.
One of which is dizziness.
Far better than nausea though.

Thanks.
I'm getting there.
It's just a lot slower than I would have liked and my concentration is still "off".

To help get better the doctor prescribed a set of exercises.
These are called Brandt Daroff.
https://www.swbh.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Brandt-Daroff-Exercises-ML3094.pdf

That process could well have been designed to torture someone with this complaint.
You're supposed to do 5 repetitions each side morning and afternoon.
When I started doing these I could manage 2 before I had to stop and lie still for an hour recovering.

I have a member of my church who suffers from the same condition as you, and it has been proven that this exercise regimen is obviously therapeutic, so please stick with it.

Thanks for the kind words and thoughts.

Pretty much better and running at 90+% now.

Just in time for a new time sink since my (now previous) employer decided it needed to shed staff.
For a developer, a job search means swotting so one can pass the inevitable technical tests of prospective employers.

Any news for the release? Any dates for the beta test Dr Ezra?

I would think the major limiting factor is my time.
I have a demanding full time employer which means I'm lucky to get the equivalent of one day to work on this project in a given week.
Whilst AI is no doubt tricky stuff, i still have a lot of game to write.

If we had a full time dev team of 7 or 8 then this would have been well done by now.
But we haven't.
And i couldn't give you a ball park month let alone date.

Unfortunately I quote myself after more than 2 years.

It's incredible that we don't have more news, I'm starting to think badly.

There are some other updates on the General Staff main web page, they are compiling on Unity and i saw some interesting discussions on new battles. I presume (without direct knowledge) that this engine might be available on the end of this year (at least hope so)

What with job and life, I was struggling to find a day a week to work on the game.
It was decided we might do better writing the game in unity.
The plan was Damien would do this with some help from Dan.
With delivery this year.
It's become obvious that timescale isn't achievable.

There's ongoing discussion on how to finish the game this year.
I think you're best reading Ezra's blog and or contacting him.
