Sold for scrap...for a single cent. So sad. I believe the JFK has been sold for scrap, as well. Also, for a penny.  :-[

USS SARATOGA (CV-60) went for one cent, also.  Part of the problem is that is is difficult to tear the ships apart.  By the time the ship is towed to the breakers and torn apart, the profit margin being made off the scrapped metals is not that great.

^Yes. There is clearly logic and practicality behind the purchase price. It just seems like an ignoble end for such a proud and honorable vessel.
