Yes....they listed shipping at 50% off but increased the cost of the book by 200% :)  Believe that was their go forward strategy to make us all happy :)

But don't you get a steam key when you buy through Matrix along with regular key?

PS: i'll set up a game for fields of glory asap...just too busy with work and kids.

WitW 50% wow, thats really good from matrix.  I was hoping that Tiger on the Hunt will have more than 30% off, well  think about it, the good thing the sale is until 6th Jan, so I have plenty time to think and compare.

So many games I want to get, but I won't find the time to play any of them, which has me bummed.  I got Civil War 2 for Christmas last year and still haven't actually fired up a game to try playing it.  I just don't have enough chunks to spend 2-3 hours PC gaming to pull myself up the learning curve, and I'm headed back to work soon.

Didn't even get my 2016 New Year's Gaming Resolution completed in my gap year...  (and yes, I'm almost 50)

:(

I'm not getting WIF but I am looking at the map pack. 21 feet long by 9 ft high when fully assembled, 24 panels.... I like a nice map. The kids will be gone one day and will be able to make my war room/ Seahawk room. Anybody have the map, wondering about locations on the map , are smaller towns and smaller terrain features shown. Just thought of something wonder if all orders are $20 shipping.

Some good bargains there though

I have Pride of Nations - which I have not played.

Is the game good?  Is it worth it to pick up several $1 downloads of say Spanish-American War, Franco-Prussian War?

Anybody help?

I'd only pick up the expansion that affects everything (I've forgotten what that is), unless you reaaalllly want to play a gamestart at one of the extra setup points.

Pr0n has had some patching recently, which no one ever thought would happen again, and can be played by human beings now.  O0 It's sort of a turn based Vicky2, with all the strengths and weaknesses of the AGE engine -- especially the weaknesses, given the extremely huge scale of the game.

I could never get into Pride of Nations. Just too big for my tastes, too much to do and very little actual war in this wargame, in my humble opinion. But if you like building and running an economy, and colonizing, then it's a great game. VERY detailed.

I just went to fire up WitW and the extra scenarios (as mentioned in your link above) show...but clicking on it tells me the WitW expansion is not installed.

So, WTF does it show me the scenarios. Also, there's no way of knowing what are the "add on" scenarios...there's no identifier to say which are add-ons and which are the original game. That's a poor show having them displayed, I have to say.  :pullhair:

I'm looking hard at both 'Wars of Napoleon' and 'To End All Wars', both on sale. I'm thinking WON is probably still buggy as hell and by now TEAW's should be more stable. I've perused the forums, but what say you Grogs? Anybody heard anything new recently? Opinion on.

Wars interested in Napoleon, but heard it was very buggy. I have to End All Wars but have not played it. I thought this conflict was not well suited for the AGEOD engine?

Picked up HOS, looking at WITW & Torch, no hurry, plenty of time to talk myself into it. Saw the Campaign series for $9.99 good deal and mine works on Win10 just fine, you get east front, west front and rising sun all in one package lots of wargaming there. Combat Command is another nice little wargame for $7.99. The graphics are simple but do the job, the AI is pretty good, phase game play and it comes with 40 scenarios. This might be Matrix best sale, too bad i have most everything. Nice that its right before the long weekend here. Off to check out the Steam sale.

I too am looking at the Tiller Series, but (even at $10) I think it's too complex for my MMO short term mentality. Battle Academy is even a stretch for me  :uglystupid2:

Noticed that CMANO is $28 - which is very tempting.  Have a feeling though I wouldn't play it much.  BTW, if someone wants Harpoon - $5 to cover US postage and it's yours.

CMANO has been out 3 years. Frequent updates to the engine/scenario packs + DLCs are keeping it fresh. CMANO is aging very well imo

For anyone thinking of AGEOD games, my recommendation is to get Thirty Years War, it is stable and most suited war for the engine. I didnt fire Wars of Napoleon for long, but still I see a lot of complains on their forums.
PON is too slow and many things to do with no very little return on investment in a short term, if you have a lot of time, you can get it, otherwise it is better to play Victoria 2, unless you want to play multiplayer PBEM them PON is better.

I will get WitW, no question.. but I am not not sure if I shall get those titles:
Series Campaign: ME
Tigers on the Hunt
TOAW III

Also, what do you think about this game: Time of Fury, I saw on steam just now.
Oh yeah, get DC:B if you dont have it yet, it is a must :D.

I think that Time of Fury is really worth it for that price. I've had my fun with it and will probably play it again at some point.

I got myself so far:

- Polaris Sector
- 4 dlcs for Field of Glory

very nice flavor and fun to play. there were some problems but i don't remember them...
please check the 'new' ageod forum, maybe the threads are still alive.

the game was definitely worth it because it made me read this:

a good read and together with the game = some very interesting hours!  O0

thank you matrix, now i'm broke as a joke...

Campaign Series: Middle East 1948-1985 is a great game for 19.99, in my most humble and biased opinion of course. Lots of contents, with board game conversion scenarios available as add-on downloads. It is still being developed, with a major upgrade planned for Spring 2017.

However, I am biased, as said  O:-)

We have an mp Pr0n campaign with... three of the Grogs, I think? Maybe four? More than two... somewhere in the Digital AARs. As I recall, some kind of catastrophic bug killed the game eventually, but it was fooling along nicely until then.  O0

If you love cold war 80's wargaming with Nato vs WP, I would get this for sure.  BH and I have completed 3 scenarios, but we could easily go back and play them several more times and not have the same outcomes.  The options to deploy your forces from the beginning lends itself to lots of replays.  And that doesn't even consider BH and I switching sides!

I do wish you could use the campaigns in multiplayer mode, but there are enough head to head scenarios to last us a while.

If anyone picks up Flashpoint Red Storm and wants to PBEM, PM me.

Twilight Struggle is 50% off on Steam - that means $7.50.
I'm going to get this one.

And I think this is all I'm picking up.  I'm in the middle of Pillars of Eternity.  I've done every side quest and need to finish the main quest in Fallout 4 (which will not take much time).  I have tons of good games that I have bought but not played.

I get pretty OCD about game systems.  I want to understand how they work.  Once I understand a game system (at least moderately well) I want to play that one.  Learning any new game system is a big time investment.  I tend to read strategy guides carefully and think through the game before playing it very much.  And I read the manuals.

Game systems I own but have not even played include:
Pride of Nations
Alea Jacta Est
Commander the Great War
Distant Worlds
Hannibal Rome and Carthage
Armada 2526
Carriers at War
War Plan Pacific
Combat Mission Battles of Normandy
Commander Europe at War
Field of Glory
Vietnam '65

So I think Twilight Struggle will do it for me.

I thought it was ok. I was a bit disappointed with the size of the maps and the carriers....it didn't really leave a lot of "surprise" at where the enemy was, but the combat mechanics were quite good and quite tense iirc.

I do not know how they can charge $40 for it and, personally, even at half price I would say it's slightly overpriced (unless they've added content since it was launched).

Not a bad game at all, but less than I had hoped.

If I didn't already own pretty much all the Matrix/Slitherine games I wanted, this would be an excellent time to acquire them.  (As always, I don't dare even look at War in the Pacific: Admirals Edition.  That game both excites and terrifies me.)  Some great deals to be had there.

That list is also a sad reminder of all the games I've acquired over the years, but haven't played (or at lest spent far too little time with).  Here are the Matrix/Slitherine titles I own but have barely touched:

Birth of America 2: Wars in America
Commander - The Great War
Gary Grigsby's War Between the States
Gary Grigsby's World at War: A World Divided
Hannibal: Rome and Carthage
Pride of Nations
Revolution Under Siege
Rise of Prussia
Starships Unlimited 3

Of the games on the above list, I still harbor a genuine desire to learn/play/enjoy dang near all of them.  I just don't know when/how I'll get around to it.  :-[

Guess I'll pass then. Thanks guys.  O0

Re Pr0n multiplayer: I haven't tried that yet, but I have to think it's more feasible than Vicky2 multiplayer (which must however be hilarious, considering the engine).

We have an mp Pr0n campaign with... three of the Grogs, I think? Maybe four? More than two... somewhere in the Digital AARs. As I recall, some kind of catastrophic bug killed the game eventually, but it was fooling along nicely until then.  O0

I was having fun. It was me, sdr  and geek.

If I picked this up, would any of you be interested in a PBEM game.

If it was like four people. But not sure how hosting goes, and if it's easy to do? I think SDR was our host.

I'm up for taking another crack at it.
Hosting wasn't too bad.  Input everyone's save file into the folder, run the turn, send the new file out to everyone after the turn was processed.  Repeat.

Before you start you should know that another quickfix is supposed to be coming (http://www.ageod-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=345&p=388887#p388658) to fix remaining issues.

So we wait for the fix?

Am I recalling correctly is this the game where they stopped giving patches for the GamersGate people?

I had been getting them from the AGEOD forum for awhile.  Dunno if that situation changed after Slitherine-Matrix took over.

I got the Steam version whenever I picked up that AGEOD bundle deal earlier this year.  Haven't checked the update situation.

The few multi-player AARs of PrON I've read always ended early, at some point, due to a major bug.

For Pride of Nations, it looks like there is the base game plus 4 DLC.  Are the DLC just scenario packs are do any of them add features.  The DLC all together is only $4 but still.

IIRC they are basically scenario packs.  The ones of which I took most featured later campaign start dates.  So if you were sick of slogging through the 1850s, for example, one of the DLCs has a start around 1870 or 1880.  Gives you a campaign that only takes half a lifetime to get through, instead of a whole one, and the nations start off more developed.  ;)

BEFORE YOU BUY... Have you played other AGEOD games? Are you ok with the engine, it's not for everyone.

Caved in pretty quickly and bought the Pacific Pack (Morning Sun, Rising Sun, US Pacific and US Marines) for Order of Battle WW2 via Steam for £16

If you haven't already got it Advanced Tactics Gold is very good value at Matrix £8.99 Steam £7.58

Martok - you've got some crackers there, I'd recommend:

Gary Grigsby's World at War: A World Divided - amazingly a GG game you could conceivably complete in one (longish) sitting - a bit of an overlooked gem in my opinion.

Hannibal: Rome and Carthage - really challenging AI

Yeah, I knew about Hannibal's AI; it was one of the main reasons it attracted me in the first place.  That, and the setting (I do love my Classical history!).  :)

Good to know GG's World at War: AWD is a little more straightforward and doesn't take as long to play.  If memory serves, I believe that was one of the reasons I got the game in the first place; I was looking for a WW2 title that covered the entire world, but one that didn't include the fascinating/frightening level of detail of his WITP game(s), as I knew something like that would take me forever to learn/play.

Regarding GGWaW:AWD, it was a neat, lite game, but I got fed up with a "DING" and a message that said "You can't move there"....ok...thanks for that, why?

Shelved it in the end. Yeah...I know there's a manual, but I am gobsmacked at the games out there that don't provide tooltips to help the users progression...especially when the game knows you can't move there. It's already done some checking, so why not tell me instead of expecting me to go find the section in the manual that may be in play or remember it after reading said manual??  :uglystupid2:

For me, that's one of the most frustrating things in games at the moment...especially this genre that requires you to read and absorb a lot of stuff  :pullhair:

Agree 100%...in a recent hockey game I picked up (FHM3), when you have incorrect line setup, it just says something like "Fix your line" without any details...there could be a million reasons the line is wrong so very crazy they simply can't tell you why the line check failed so you could easily fix it...no idea what developers are thinking some time and how doesn't come up in testing.

I love Case Blue but it's not for everybody. If you like really BIG campaigns with hundreds of units to push around, then it's a great fit. Down side is  only an attempt at a naval part to the campaigns and an Air Element that was, in my opinion, less well developed than DC: WtP. The AI can be a really tough opponent.

Because it's GG's Axis vs Allies! Down to the map and counter design. (Though with plenty of extra computer-aided house rules.)

I bought:

Ravenmark - Scourge of Estellion.

I've looked at the title several times in the past, but didn't actually buy it. It's enjoyable so far.

Battle Academy 2: Eastern Front and the Kursk DLC/expansion for that title.

With the by now rather serious dry spell of pre-modern operational level land-focussed wargames going strong, there isn't much more that interests me in what Matrix/Slitherine has released in the last couple of years.

There was a period where there were interesting new releases every few months, but with the focus going to mobile gaming, easy to play/difficult to master games, space stuff, and periods or types of warfare (like modern air/naval operations) I'm not interested in, I'm struggling to find something to buy each year.

On the plus side, discounts from membership milestone coupon codes work during the sale as well. Whereas the discount from a coupon code might not be good enough to purchase something normally, it currently adds a nice additional discount to the sales.

It was pretty well done except for the very last part where you led some cavalry in a charge against infantry. Couldn't get it to work correctly. Will have to do some youtube searching for help.  Or god forbid....read the manual.   :-X

I purchased Axis vs Allies (http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/axis-allies) not long after its release in 1998. After purchasing Gary Grigsby's World At War (http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/gary-grigsbys-world-at-war) in 2005, I was surprised to see how similar (identical?) the two games were.

Later I was unaware that Matrix had discontinued Gary Grigsby's World At War and replaced it with Gary Grigsby's World at War: A World Divided (http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/gary-grigsbys-world-at-war-a-world-divided). This wouldn't have been any big deal had I not been informed years later that Matrix had offered the owners of the original game a free upgrade to the new release. Unfortunately it was a limited time offer which had expired by the time I found out about it. :(

Matrix loves to do the 'limited time' thing to irks it's customers. That's what stopped me at Distant World with regards to getting universe. For some reason I could never get into World at War.. I tried a couple times. I guess I should try again someday!.

A question if I may...I have SoW:WL and enjoy it, but have only scratched the surface in terms of content.  I'm thinking about picking up the two add-ons in the sale.  My difficulty is that I doubt I'll "need" new content til the next sale is on - I want to play what I already have before moving on.  However, I see that the add-ons have improvements, so is it worth getting them for the improvements as much as for the new maps/OOBs?  And, if I install, say Quatre Bras, does that mean that my Waterloo will be patched up too?

I'm just about to pull the trigger on Gary Grigsby's A World at War: A World Divided.

Given the topic, the billing as "Gary Grigsby Lite" (an oxymoron, I know), and the PBEM functionality, I don't know how I missed this one.  I'm trusting the recommendations here that it won't suck, but you guys seldom steer me wrong...

It's basically an iteration of "Axis and Allies".  But it's not bad. Played it several times.

OK so I pulled the trigger on DC:Barbarossa and War in the West. Upgraded to the physical copies because I don't can for trying to read PDF's that are 100's of pages long.

Bought Scourge of War Waterloo and Campaign Series: Middle East 1948-1985.  Up-graded to the physical copies as well.

Guys what do you think about Piercing Fortress Europa? it looks detailed groggy and at same time WEGO system, which I prefer.

It's definitely "old school" and if that's what you like, this one should appeal to you.  I'm a bit biased (my graphics) but I think Frank Hunter does wonderful boardgame to computer game adaptations.

How's the old Close Combat series these days?  I'm looking at Close Combat - Gateway to Caen for $20.  I haven't played this series in many years-

Agreed, this is an excellent game and a lot of fun to play. It's a good overview of the campaigns without getting bogged into too much detail. I really enjoy Frank Hunter games, and of course, the graphics on this one are superb.

Bought it in a sale last year, loaded it and played it once, and have never tried it again. Mostly a silly clickfest.

You are too kind sir!  I actually had different ideas for the graphics but that was the look that Frank wanted so we went with it.  Somebody did a very excellent mod for the game that I'd highly recommend.  The one thing that I appreciate from Frank's games is he uses single images for the maps so it's very easy to mod it to your tastes; no "tiling" of images in this one.

I do have Chemkid's mod, and like all of his graphics mods it too is lovely. Unlike the Tiller games I play, this game really didn't need to have the graphics modded. It's really nice being able to change between the two just to get a fresh look.

Why can't I pull the trigger on JTCS for $10?  :uglystupid2:

Re: JTCS:  DO EEEET.

Yes the interface is kludgy, but, with the 2.0 patch, there isn't a game at this scale that has more content.  Seriously, there are some at the Blitz who still play nothing else.

I ended up buying Gary Grigsby's World at War:  A World Divided in hopes of playing PBEM with a buddy of mine who also bought it, and spent the first 40 minutes of it trying to get the resolution higher than 1024*720.  Finally succeeded, with a little hard work and a little luck...

I got it via the Steam Sale, but I also bought Matrix'  DC: Barbarossa, based on all the glowing reviews on this board.  I'm eager to kick the tires on both titles, but am having too much fun right now with my AAR on the other board here for Thea: The Awakening.  A nifty little title, even if it's not part of the Matrix collection...   :)

If you have the latest 1.040 patch (you'll need to download from the Matrix site here http://www.matrixgames.com/products/330/downloads/ ) you should be able to do this from the in game Preferences screen, see here http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1675262 post #23

OK so I pulled the trigger on DC:Barbarossa and War in the West. Upgraded to the physical copies because I don't can for trying to read PDF's that are 100's of pages long.

So as nice little "Thank you" from Matrix they stuffed a 10% coupon in my box with DC:B and WitW...

What to get...what to get...I have most of Matrix's catalog that I would care for...but I'd hate to waste free moneys.

Torn between Pike and Shot, Flashpoint:Red Storm, GG:Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich and Tigers on the Hunt.

I don't have Bombing of the Reich, but the other three are all great titles and yet from three distinctly different time era's of warfare.

Make sure to check the Campaign Series: Middle East 1948-1985 game title as well, with a 50% discount. Interesting theater of war, covers quite an era, what's there not to like.

I am utterly biased, of course  :)

Just bought GG:Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich and have had a quick play.  Seems to let me do what I wanted from it - plan detailed air-raids/defences.  Caveats: the game is dead developer-wise, graphics (such as they are) are a bit low-res and turn-resolution is pretty long.  I would recommend without hesitation both Pike and Shot, and FP:RS

I grabbed Pike and Shot Campaigns.

I really am pleased. I wanted to get this for my birthday and what was cool  was the 30% off. Made the decision at bit easier.
