The new series kicks off today (http://grogheads.com/?p=3654)

Good stuff Brant. Looking forward to seeing how this one plays out.
Cool. I've heard Civ V nuts talk about the SfA campaign often enough, so it's fun to see this in action!
Two questions, btw:
1.) It seems like you started out in a rather cramped position. Is that typical for Civ V?
2.) Are the Boers considered one of the European factions then?
Looks good, Brant! One point of wordsmithing needed:
QuoteI want to get some caravans out there to boosst my inbound gold.
I am so ashamed....
Great stuff, looking forward to more. Makes me realize how much I've neglected CivV the last several months.
next one is up!

Good work, Brant. This makes me realize how much stuff I'm missing out on with Civ V's scenarios. I did play and finish the Civil War one, but none of the others yet.
Conquest of the New World is a lot of fun, too - especially if you're a European power.
But I'd played that one a bunch and wanted to do something a little different, so I thought I'd try the Scramble scenario, which I'd never played before.

Those damn Portuguese can't leave well enough alone. >:(
Good stuff Brant.
Another AAR for CiV5 by BaYo???? AWESOME!

new episode up today

Ladies & gentleman, please resume your seats. The second period of the Boer-Zulu match is about to begin! 8)
es gibt heute ein neues Civ5 Africa AAR :)
So it has begun again. I almost feel sorry for the Zulus. 8)
Why the reluctance to open borders with Vicky? Is it just because of how powerful she is?
don't need her settlers making a land grab on my northern border and hemming me in.
plus, if you can get paid for letting someone wander around, why wouldn't you? :)
Fair point!
new one went up yesterday
What?? No comment on that Settler unit in your last frame (SE corner) trying to look small? I'd be all over that... they'll have nubile wimmin'folk
So is their capital Ulundi the Zulus' only remaining city? Just wondering how much more is needed to knock them out completely.

I was wondering about that as well.

new episode today

QuoteThat's a lot of British firepower right there were it could split my fledgling nation. And are those settlers truly passing through? Or is this an ethnic minority that's going to appeal to the motherland for "protection"?
I see what you did there. :)
and that was written back before the Olympics, too
It must be a mixed blessing to be so uncannily prescient. ;)
took the gold over iron huh?
new one today :)
So the English are still wandering around your territory, and Germany's grumpy with you. Did someone make Otto's tea wrong or something? ::)
new one today. ran early b/c 'Geek didn't get the newest CKII episode in yet :)
The Southern Hemisphere Integration Treaty bit will have me chuckling for a while.
de nada :)
when that city of yours gets established between the two halves of portugeuse land... its gonna be a pissed off Pia... very unlikely you'll get that defensive pact extended... I can see some dark clouds in your great empire's future
Well it's not like he has much choice. It's either expand, or eventually wither and die...
next one is out there
I'm wondering how much trouble that new Brit city of Port Sudan is likely to be. Otherwise, though, sounds like everything is going quite swimmingly at the moment!
So I discovered this AAR today and just read parts 1-6 and became addicted. Maybe I'm missing something simple but is there an index to this? I know that part 9 is on the front page but I can't find parts 7 or 8 anywhere! :o

Front page > AARs drop down (right below the logo on the left) > Civ V Africa
Or here: http://grogheads.com/?cat=119
index of the entire category, counting backwards from current
We're going to get a better sortable/searchable index by the end of the year. It's one of my personal goals. But I gotta talk to my dev first about his free time.
So I was right, I was missing something. :D
Now back to reading...
Fresh new AAR today! Get it while it lasts!
Is Ethiopia on some kind of tear up north that both Belgium and Egypt are so eager to take it out? For that matter, I don't understand why they don't simply team up together and leave you out of it... ???
Good luck with your "Kaliningrad'ed" (can you even use it like that?) city. :)
I'm going back... back... baaaaaaaack! To. Africaaaaaaaa!

The Snark is definitely strong with you today, Brant. Couldn't stop laughing at the commentary. :2funny:

+1
Great AAR. It inspired me the other day to fire up Civilization and start a new campaign of my own! My Godfathers! Is it addictive, or what? 8)
Exactly why I hardly play Civ V, lately anyway. TOO easy to get sucked in. Though I really want to try this Scramble scenario...I've not played but one Civ V scenario, the Civil War one.

Wow. A period of peace where not everyone seemed ready to DOW on you at the drop of a hat. However did you cope? :P
I'm waiting for 'Lebenstraum Brant' to come out and just conquer the whole continent. C:-)
since y'all paying attention to the font page on your own - and apparently some of you can't even find it from the forums ;) (cough*ubercat*cough) - I'll point out that there's a new episode today (http://grogheads.com/?p=6287)

QuoteNo wonder Vicky's pissed off – she's ugly and in last place.

Heh!
Hey look! It's a new AAR episode! >>>>
Rollin'...rollin'...rollin' on a river... ;D
So did that last screenshot indicate you're ahead in victory points, or was an indicator for something else?
I can't believe that no one had any comment on the puntasticlysm that attacked the last AAR... you guys *do* know we have a front page, right?
Still bumbling along in Boer-world
http://grogheads.com/?p=6818
Looks like things are chugging along fairly well. I'm guessing you're doing whatever you can to max out culture and build as many farms as possible?

denouement imminent...
http://grogheads.com/?p=7170
I liked the asymmetric victory point conditions in the this scenario. It makes it harder to keep track of who's in first for what reason.
I've won this scenario as England by building a rail line from Cape Town to Cairo. Lots of fighting to get the land for that.... ;)

Congratulations, Brant! Nicely done. O0
However, I have to wonder why everyone declared war on you on the second-to-last turn like that. Presumably, it was to keep you from winning, but it was literally "too little, too late". ???

thanks y'all - it was fun. Not sure when I'll get another Civ V AAR in. To do a good one right, I need a full weekend to play a ton of the game and take a lot of screenies all at once. Maybe I'll do a Smokey Skies one next.
