Title: Boot Hill anybody?
Post by: GJK on September 18, 2016, 07:42:43 AM
I whipped up a little VASSAL module for the "Mad Mesa" solitaire campaign and started tinkering around with it.  It's no "Ambush" but seems ok so far.  I didn't post this to the VASSAL site but if it interests you, let me know....and I may have some other goodies that go with it that you'd need.   O0

Thanks Stagger.  It's pretty simple to draw old west towns.  I wouldn't mind redrawing the entire map that came with BH 2nd edition some day.

Cool! I'd love to see the Vassal module just to see how you created it. This looks like another good way to set up tactical combat situations for things like GURPS, etc.  O0

 :))

I've played RPG's for almost as long as I've board wargamed - but never for the roleplaying aspect. I enjoy miniatures skirmishes.  I'm a HUGE fan of Phoenix Command (I *love* the detail in that one!) but it's mostly unplayable with more than a few characters unless you have a lot of people playing.  However, I've recently found "Skirmish Sangin" which seems to use some concepts of PC without some of the (excessive) chrome and it seems like that will be playable with a couple of assault teams.  That's the next project (mini's are painted already).

Nice! I've been thinking about a running a Boot Hill game using Fantasy Grounds but haven't found many good maps. Do you have a copy of that map without the #'s on it you'd be willing to post?

Phoenix Command was great.  We used to play it using the street map from the Gangbusters RPG or the city hex maps from Sniper.  Good times.  We even used the advanced damage booklet that traced individual rounds and shotgun pellets` paths through bodies.  One guy took 10 rounds from a Skorpion SMG and walked away like it was nothing.

None of the buildings are named - I don't know if you'd want them to be or not.  For the "Mad Mesa" solitaire expedition thingie, you discover what the buildings are as you discover the town and nothing about the town is known to you at first.

No need to do that, I plan to customize the town to fit my needs.  O0

That must be the original 1st edition - I've never seen that one before but have seen the 2nd edition.

3ed BH always looked pretty spiffy; need to pull that one down and take a gander at it.
