That was a great opening show to the new season guys :D I really enjoyed listening in O0
I pop these on and listen to them while at work - I pop up a screen shot of a Skype Meeting in my other monitor and people leave me alone thinking old Migs is hard at work ! Perfect ! :bd:
^Outstanding :bd:
There no Mirth quite like Drunk Mirth, on episode 2 today
My liver really can't handle many more Grogcasts.
Witty t shirt: 'shut up liver, you'll be fine'
I'll buy one!
Caveman to Cosmos was around back when we were playing MP Civ IV
I have no doubt. But I am always behind in Science in that game anyways. So it's news to me ;)
Listening to 2nd episode now... mirth needs to drink more before the recordings..... :o
And Brant, since when is Germany and France EAST of Poland? ??? :2funny:
Look. I can only drink so much.

The intent was to describe how stuff to the east of France/Germany is relative under-covered in many US games. If I misspoke, it was probably a contract high from Mirth's inebriation
Well, technically it's east of Poland. If you go east for about 22,000 miles or so, you'll get to it. ;D

Sure. Blame me.
It was probably the producer's fault.
As much radio as Brant's worked in, he should know it's always the producer's fault.
Well,if you four were in a bar waxing lyrical about gaming ,and having a few drinks ,that's a bar I'd wanna be in :bd: great episode guys !
You are entirely too kind. And obviously, someone has paid you off to say that ;)
Good season so far!
And yes, Scythe is crap. I backed it based on hype and "Oh, pretty!" and the game play is just meh. Too much of it makes no narrative sense, either, which is a pet peeve of mine.

Glad I'm not the only one. I saw a few vids of gameplay (which I generally do) and while I thought the minis were just awesome, the gameplay seemed way too fiddly and dull. The guy that played it was REALLY into it, but that wasn't a positive thing.
Episode 3 is out today for your listening and/or enjoyment :)
Skip over World War I???
And BC, I think the old PC Civil War game you were thinking of was
No Greater Glory. A brutal, brutal game that I was never able to win.
I listened and enjoyed :) I've played 7 wonders on my phone a few times now, still haven't won the AI.... Pffft! I win quite a lot of the battles, but still manage to lose the game :-" I shall continue until I triumph, mhwahahaha >:D its a great game to play though, and its cool to be building something ancient, I kinda get a kick outta that!
I remember watching the video for mosebys raiders, thought it looked fun to play, but I also liked the way it looked, it looked convincingly civil war to me.
I think the American revolution is going to be an interesting listen next week O0 anything on the English civil war would be good too, if you guys ever get around to that subject :bd:
The flight sim stuff sounded cool, I thought this was a great episode guys O0

Well, there was a brown paper envelope with a wad of cash slipped under my door, marked "grogcast" :hide: but seeing as how I genuinely enjoyed the episode, and would have left a comment anyway :) I can now use the cash to buy y'all a drink ;) so get yer funny stories ready ;D And a designated driver, cos ain't none of us gonna be walking out of that bar sober! <:-)
^^Focusing too much on military cards and battles is a great way to lose in 7 Wonders. Believe me, I know. I make the same damn mistake every damn time I play the game. Apparently I'm incapable of learning. :uglystupid2:

That's cool to know Arctic Blast, thanks for the tip O0 I do keep radiating towards the military cards, thinking that if I Blast the heck out of the opposition I'll break them down, lol.... But apparently thats not the case :uglystupid2: I'll take your advice on board and change tactics, and maybe.... Just maybe, I might get a win :hide:

That's the one, thanks bbmike.
DROVE ME NUTS, this game did. But I kept coming back for more.
I managed once - once - to get thiiiiis close to winning as the South, but I didn't quite make it. Otherwise I'd just get my butt kicked and find support drop like a stone. You have to really play the numbers in this one and put dummies in charge, and even then you'd never get ahead!
But if this lil' bastard appeared on GOG, I'd totally be all over it. :(
Episode 4 today!
Great show guys O0 7 wonders tabletop sounds like a lot of fun to play in a group :) And I've played Jamaica the boardgame, it's a lot of fun. It was great to hear that discussed. Lots of interesting points to listen to again, thanks :)
GorgCast gets a mention in a new War Game News YT series. O0
Around the 16:00 mark...
^Sweet! Thanks for posting.
Yep!
Phantom mentioned it over here, too :)

A very groggy episode for you today, as we cover the historical periods from WWI back to - but not including - the AWI.
So we're talking Napoleonics, with Cyrano, and manage to keep it to around an hour :)

How? Did you sedate him? ;D
Brian Train!

Skipping back an episode, JH mentioned this game and it set me to re-playing it (it takes real doing).
BEHOLD the glory of Napoleonics on the PC in 1993:
It's the sound that gets me. It was splendid at the time...
Today's episode is finally up. It's not midnight yet, so it's still technically live by Friday!
Realistic space combat:
Boardgame: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/6767/attack-vector-tactical (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/6767/attack-vector-tactical) Attack Vector Tactical: physics are correct, engineering is handwaved in order to create a tactically interesting decision space; orbital mechanics is an option. [Disclaimer: I was part of the team for AVT.]
Computer: http://store.steampowered.com/app/476530/Children_of_a_Dead_Earth/ (http://store.steampowered.com/app/476530/Children_of_a_Dead_Earth/) Children of a Dead Earth: physics is correct, engineering sticks to currently known techniques, orbital mechanics always enabled.
Computer, as a tutorial to Children of a Dead Earth (and a superb game in its own right) : https://www.gog.com/game/kerbal_space_program (https://www.gog.com/game/kerbal_space_program) Kerbal Space Program doesn't have combat, unless you mod it (easy to do), but it will teach you a gut-level understanding of orbital mechanics that will help a lot with CoaDE. (I've been part of a STEM outreach program to a local junior high school using this... we're eagerly anticipating some teams landing on the moon in the next few weeks.)
Computer, if you think Kerbal is not realistic enough: http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/ (http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/) Orbiter. Pack a lunch, this wants you to do your homework in full.
I have and enjoy Children of a Dead Earth. I need to give it another run since there have been a lot of updates since I last played.
I really wish Torchships had made it...
While I've always thought that realistic space combat games probably belong on the computer, AVT is appealing. In the end it always loses out in my time budget to games with muskets, but someday...
I spent enough time teaching AVT in demos that I can still do it a decade later. :)
Plus, Ken Burnside, the primary designer, usually shows up at Origins.
Your call. :)
AVT is the one with the wooden blocks to help the ships assume the correct aspect, yeah?
Correct! (If you want to be technical, plastic blocks.)

Caught up on GrogCast while driving to KY from MI and back this weekend. Well done. Enjoyed the conversation with Brian Train. Have to get ADP on the table soonest and look into his smaller games. Sidenote to the other guys in the cast, "how do you stay awake when Brant talks for 15mins straight"?

We could easily ask our listeners that same question!
I dare you to find one where we have more than just two of us in which that actually happens

finally... Ep 9 is out there :)

Is that the one with drunk mirth?
More likely one without BC.

You know what, it's Friday - have a GrogCast! (http://grogheads.com/podcast/grogcast-season-6-episode-10-game-designer-brad-warren)

Uh uh, I see where this goes. "Sorry honey, it's Doug's fault, he talked about it on the Grogcast and I had to have it!" No way, I'm not taking that rap.
Besides, we all know it's Gus that does it. People can't resist him.
When in doubt, blame Gus.
He does tend to come up short.

Damn fine episodes for those who now can put voices to names and names to commanders! Great work!
Glad you enjoyed! Can't wait to see the rest of the Video AARs to see how everyone played out.
The last episode of Season 6 has now escaped into the wild! :)

There is going to be a delay. As you may know, Brant has left Grogheads and Banzai Cat who assisted significantly with the production of the cast appears to have gone with him.
We are going to need some time to get production up and running again.
Its a lot for Gus and me to handle, but we're working on it and we thank you for your interest and patience!
