Title: Gaming, thy name is Friday!
Post by: MetalDog on August 02, 2013, 05:45:19 AM
The weekend couldn't come soon enough!  And in between sleep and mowing the yard, there will be GAMES!  Ok, GAME!  I would normally list a couple of games that will catch my eye, but, we all know I am a Civ whore, so, Civ it is.  Single player and multiplayer.

More BOTF for me.  Hopefully some Civ IV and/or Crusader Kings 2 as well.

More of my Shogun 2 campaign - just have to capture Kyoto to win! All this talk of BOTF has me fired up so will be giving it a go using the All Ages mod.

I think nothing for me - I have my army reunion this weekend and it's beer Friday night, beer Saturday afternoon and beer Saturday night...in large quantities.

I will be recoversing Sunday so on top of a large Full English, I'll likely make some more of my Challenger II model

Enjoy your gaming whatever it is that's floating your boat this weekend.

Inspired by Martok I've reinstalled BotF, and will check out the Balance of Power mod. I also hope to finish the main Shadowrun Returns campaign and get back to testing the latest build of Lock 'n Load.

I really want to start up a new game of CKII with the latest expansion I bought.  I just need to find a decent amount of time to get the game going.  Other than that I started playing some Tropico 4 again as well as my Far Cry 2 campaign.

Fallen Enchantress   (near endgame with created leader)
CK II   (Trying to form the Scandinavian Empire)
Civ V
Wargame LandAir  (try new dlc)
Shogun TW II   (in mid-game now, starting to get interesting)

I will be smacking around the Austrians and laying siege to Belgrade while holding off the Turks as the Byzantines in Civ V. And maybe some Skyrim.

Dammit Jim I'm still waiting on you to come out of the birth canal...

But other than that lots and lots of Wargame: Airland Battle, possibly some World of Tanks.  I have a hankering to dabble in Crusader Kings 2 to prep for EU4...

Crusader Kings 2: I now control both the kingdoms of England and Skotland. Unless my older daughter produces an male heir shortly I'm going to lose one of them when succession times roles around.

Wargame ALB: Want to try out the new DLC. Hopefully can set up some MP games with some fellow grogs.

Skyrim: Going to start work on my first Skyrim mod before I start another playthrough.

What is BotF?
BOTF is a terrible addiction that has consumed the last fourteen years of my life.  ::)

To elaborate, however:  Birth of the Federation is basically Master of Orion 2 set in the Star Trek: The Next Generation universe.  (Some of the same folks that worked on MOO2 also worked on this game, and their influence clearly shows.  BOTF has been referred to by some as "MOO2.5".)

You play as one of five major powers (Federation, Klingons, Romulans, etc.).  You do the normal 4x stuff -- explore the galaxy, colonize new star systems, research new technology, conduct diplomacy with the other races (and of course fight them when diplomacy fails), launch intel operations against your foes, etc.  There also are the usual random events (probably the best known are the Borg invasions!) which can help spice up the game.

Perhaps one of BOTF's most notable features are the "minor" races (such as the Vulcans, Bajorans, etc.) that you can interact with.  They add a good deal of atmosphere to the game, partially because you can choose to force them into your empire at the point of a phaser rifle, or you can use diplomacy to get them to join your empire peacefully.  (There are pros and cons to both methods, especially depending on which power you're playing as.)

Anyway, it's an old game (and it shows), but it's still a fun one for me.  :)

I've gotten sucked back into Sword of the Stars II of late.  This is just a kick-ass game.  Loads of fun.

Will try to find some time for Graviteam Tactics Op. Star as well. Another game that falls into the kick-ass category --

Looks like Republic's still on, "South-of-the-Border-Alert". I know, I know. Don't start THAT again. It's hot here in Florida so it works like this, clean the pool, get in the pool, stay in the pool. Eat, drink, sleep, in the pool. You can't use the computer in the pool, dammit. Maybe if I wrapped in water-proof duct tape... So it'll be something cool for me like Skyrim up at the snow level or CM-Gustav Line in a snow storm or something like that. Or I could just put my BVD's in the freezer for about 30 min. & then put them back on. That works and your able to sing real high too. 8)

I'll either continue making my way through my Steam sale purchases, or I'll play more Rising Storm until I find myself cursing the developers in a blind rage.

And I just realized it's a long weekend. So...sweet! I shall also be drinking a substantial amount of scotch.  ;D

Probably continue from last weekend Children of the Nile with the Horus Texture Overhaul Project mod which had its final release recently.

May get distracted with some Tropico 4 (must resist buying the Voodoo DLC  :) ) and S.P.A.Z or maybe even some vanilla TW:ROME.

What kind of mod are you planning?

Going to be doing a shaman style RP mod. I plan for my next character to not use any enchants but surviving in Skyrim on master difficulty with the Skyrim Redone mod is probably impossible. So I;m doing a mod that will give some different type of powers such as elemental resistance, elemental damage on weapons, etc. to make up for the lack of enchanting. Going to be stealing some ideas for powers from both WoW and Rift.

Right now I'm goofing off with the Planned Assault editor and Iron Front.

I'm sure I'll get in some Rising Storm tonight.

Other menu items include Skyrim, BMS Falcon, and perhaps some Combat Mission series.

I may boot up Wargame:ALB due to all the recent discussion about it.  I'm still figuring it all out.

Hey Star. I'm in a small town in S.W. Florida, Desoto County actually though I don't think Desoto came anywhere near here. But if somebody buys me a couple of drinks, I'll usually try to tell them I know where the Fountain of Youth is. Anyway my pool was 90 degrees today. Being a nurse, I know that alcohol can be very useful in cooling people's temp when overheated or making them just not give a damn about it. ::)

Just on the last day of antibiotics so tomorrow is a concerted attempt to destroy my liver (and some Iron Front MP).

I'm still playing through the grand campaign in Hearts of Iron III as France.  Man, this game eats up my time but I'm loving it.

Probably stab some people in the face in Rising Storm.

they died in a blaze of 'we wish we had a better commander' but yes they were performing heroic acts - unfortunately Bob got killed twice, once by the aliens and once by me for rising up as a zombie

Played waaaaaaaaaay too much Dark Souls sandwiched around my vacation... I swear if I couldn't backup / restore my saves, and play offline, I'd have quit a long time ago out of frustration.   There are times when the game is just too hard for an old fart like me.   That's a shame, because it is an excellent game otherwise.   This mode is a must for me, makes full screen windowed mode work, plus some other nice fixes:  http://darksouls.nexusmods.com/mods/19/?
