Looking forward for what You find in it. 8)

Dytopian...the word has been known to moisten the loins of Gusington.
Do I smell a video incoming, Jarhead? ;)
reminds me a little of Infinifactory (http://store.steampowered.com/app/300570/).
There are some demos:

No. Sorry...That's just me, I had breakfast tacos this morning. ^-^
I played the demo, fun if you like the incredible machine type games with some RTS components added in. Didn't realize it hit steam, I will probably pick up.
Fortresscraft Evolved has been in production longer, with regular updates, and I'll be taking a shot at that after I finish my Empyrion campaign.
Like Factorio you're creating a factory base while protecting it, although FE is more of a tower defense combat despite FE being a 3D first person Minecraft exploration game.
I bought Fortress Craft for the kids, but they have never played it. What's it like? ... the kids are still on Minecraft mods and Garry's mod mods?
*tumbleweeds*
So come on! Do I need this game or not?!
I would get it if it comes up in a sale, but I'm too much of an old skinflint to pay £15 for it.

Oh him. He's easy.
why you little...........
FortCraft is not nearly as "creative" as Minecraft. It's more adult in that sense, rather like 7 Days to Die is a more adult Minecraft taken in a completely different direction of "adult". Fortresscraft Evolved goes for the technical design complexities and the tower defense, even though it looks more like Minecraft; 7DtD goes for the survival vs. zombies, and looks more like a nice first-person shooter.
You won't be making a scale model of the Enterprise in Fortcraft, and neither will you be holing up in a literal hole while things of the undead howl outside trying to get in. I'm not sure in the current build that anything does attack your player in FortCraft, but I haven't gotten far in it either.
That's not to say there isn't combat -- there's a ton of it -- but it's aimed at resource raiders and waves trying to get to your central construction unit. Meanwhile, your end game is to build a giant satellite laser to wipe out the four main hives on your planetoid.
For a somewhat less technical survival sci-fi game, you might consider Empyrion (which currently doesn't have an endgame per se). I just finished an AAR for it in the Digital AAR section (also still in my link for now). It isn't even remotely as harrowing as 7DtD, but it "looks" better than FortCraft and doesn't require the same kind of factory-design skilz.
I'll be starting a FortCraft AAR eventually, once I play around with it enough to gain some understanding of what I'm doing. In fact, I've set up the Empy AAR so that it'll segue into FortCraft as a sequel! :D
i think whippersnapper is the customary term
Quite; but Huw's version has a certain...snappy zing to it.......
grumpy old fart
curmudgeon you might say
I would say it if I could, but I'd have to put my dentures in first.

Ahem!
Sorry Huw - I'd realised that I'd inflame nationalistic sensibilities with that post, but the quote didn't really work any other way.
At least my objection was suitably muted in typical British fashion. Although I may have also tutted (after checking nobody was in earshot).
In other news, I bought Factorio anyway. It looked ace, and indeed it does seem to be ace after a quick 1.3 hours with it. Lots and lots of lovely layers of complexity and opportunities to demonstrate my near-complete lack of imagination. Bob, Geek - I command you both to buy it and play with me!
Watching that video was disturbing.
"Natural Environment Destruction Simulator".
Mankind is really the destroyer of worlds.
You are alone in an unknown planet. You create machines to sustain your life. But you end up being greedy and create a factory. Who will buy your goods?
You export them to another planet? Do you have to make a space ship first? So you have the whole planet for yourself to exploit and kill.
I'm rooting for the creatures who would like to kill you.
Thus begins the not-Factorio AAR. (http://grogheads.com/forums/index.php?topic=16396.msg431116#msg431116)
I've put 3.4 hours into Factorio now. I made my usual mistake of just doing the first few bits of tutorial and have now decided I'm obviously an expert, so into the sandbox I went!
I've been building some horribly inefficient machines. I wanted my steam machine to be self-powering but it's miles away from the nearest coal deposit, so I built a massive conveyor belt between the two, with electric lines running the same length. So now I have a conveyor belt about five miles long which is completely loaded with coal as the boilers don't use much!
Got my lab going and put a couple of radars up, so I'm slowly scanning the surrounding area. I also have an automated fabricator thingy which is churning out science packs to use in the lab.
Then just before I stopped playing I thought it would be a good idea to investigate the big red blob my radars detected. Big mistake!
Really good game. Looking at the research screen it seems there's a lot to discover, and I'm looking forward to it.
I'll be super curious to read reports from Factorio players to compare notes on how the different games go about their business. O:-)
Looking at the videos the speed of this game looks insane. Is it really that fast? Holding off loin-moistening until I get confirmation.
I suck at this game.

Jason's made this thread all confused! Are you asking about Factorio or FortressCraft?
If the former...it can be fast, yeah, but you're not hit in the face with it. The tutorial isn't dangerous and gives you plenty of time to learn the ropes in relative safety. Then you can start a sandbox game with peaceful enemies to learn further, if you like. Once you know what you're doing it can actually seem slow when you're waiting for stuff to be produced!
Maybe I should make a video!
Yeah I meant Factorio.
I am struggling in figuring out how to link up a conveyer belt..any help or hints would be appreciated. thanks!

The BORG had to start somewhere. Why not there?

Can you be more specific? The different components of a belt will just link automatically when placed in a line, and if you rotate the piece you're placing the belt will automatically turn through 90 degrees. If you mean linking it to a factory, you need to use an inserter; have the inserter at the end of the belt (or adjacent to it) and the inserter will automatically grab items off the belt and feed them into the factory.

Yes! Please do.
I just made a rather longer video than I intended, and it exceeded my video upload capacity on Vimeo. Bah! I'll make a shorter one tomorrow and try again.Never mind, video uploading now, but I'll be asleep by the time it finishes. I'll post the link in the morning.

No worries. I'm a professional at making unprofessional videos.
Big write up at rps - it is the management game to end all management games apparently - everyone else may as well give up
It is truly impressive, but I think there's definitely room for FortCraft.
(Which came first. But even FC's dev is a fan of Factorio. O:-) )

I'm definitely possibly interested.
OK so after playing the hell out of the demo and seeing it hit Steam I jumped on it (along with Stardew Valley)
The amount of things to build in Factorio is really mind blowing. Managed about 3 hours this weekend but I'll probably double that tonight.

Yep, Stardew Valley for light work, then on to Factorio to get the life crushed out of me.
Let me see..this is where I am at. Completed first three tutorials, check. Started sandbox game, and somehow managed to get a boiler, steam engine, and electric lines all hooked up and running. Created two research labs, and got both red and green research completed!!
At this point, I have unlocked a crap-ton of stuff, stuff that I cannot come close to building. Next up is linking up two products to create a third, automatically. I can see electronic circuits next up!
Great game, and the learning curve is not unsurmountable. I suck at these kind of games, and haven't hit the wall yet.
Pretty damn impressive that Factorio still has a 99% Positive rating on Steam after over 4,500 reviews....

Yes it is. I bought Stardock Valley due to the 95% rating. Hell..I will buy ANY game I am remotely interested in, if the sample size is significant, and it's over 90%.

Dennis, from what I know as long as you have you mining production humming, which sounds like yours is doing pretty good, it is all a matter of constantly setting up ever advanced construction production while trying to not bottleneck any single part.
I set up some guns as I started getting some hostile attention however I am trying to wait for laser towers before going after the nests. I need higher tier energy distribution as wood is my major bottleneck right now which limits my poles
For comparison's sake, after around 20 hours in FCraft, I have built a coal, copper, tin, and iron mine (and moved the copper mine when the original ran out), and have just now gotten most everything coal powered except for the coal extractor itself.
A very good player could have beaten Factorio about 4 times already. But I think from watching and reading several plays, despite having more stuff to do, Factorio plays faster. (Also I'm on scarce resources and slow conveyors, and that makes a difference certainly.)
To clarify, I'm saying that the ratio to things-done per time-spent is better for Factorio, from what I've seen. O:-)
Apologies for the thread necro, but is anyone still playing Factorio? I saw where the price is going up to $30 this month. Just wondering if the game has legs or whether it gets old quickly. Thanks.
The last time I played Factorio seriously was more than a year ago, and even then it had enough content for the long haul in my opinion. There's shitloads of stuff to research, and you can always make your machines more efficient.
Since it's been so long since I played I guess you have to take my advice with a pinch of salt, but I'd bet good money there's more than enough entertainment for 30 of those funny "dollar" things.
(Oh, it's absolutely fantastic in multiplayer too - the cooperative element really adds to it)
Thanks for the reply. Just noticed there is a demo on Steam so I'll go through that now.
I do know you can even mod the demo, if you need to slow down the game a bit.
I had to do it because I can be a bit slow with things.
I could probably arrange for a dedicated server for us Groggies for Factorio if there is enough interest.
Let me know.
I've read that the newest version of the game has heavy weapons that can be built and fielded. Anyone use them yet?
Nope. I ended up buying it, but just getting started with my first game.

Me thinks once I finish some of my current games I needs to jump back into this.
