This caught my eye on steam.
Looks pretty basic and the campaign map leaves a lot to be desired, but it also looks like it incorporates some fairly detailed concepts for organization and equipment at the platoon through battalion level and for researching, designing and producing armored vehicles...maybe something to watch out for?

Still says Coming Soon despite listing yesterday as a release date.
This has some similarities to Advanced Tactics 2.
Intriguing. Off-the-cuff response is that I really like some of the organizational mechanics, though I'm skeptical about the 'use' your organizing it put to, i.e. capturing a string of fictional cities according to some maze-like strategic map? Still, a game that definitely seems to be doing something new, and that's usually a good thing. Will indeed keep an eye on.

Also reminded me of AT (Gold) with a much nicer UI.
I may have to pick this up.
EDIT - would be nice if this had a map editor.
Those mechanics look very intriguing, thanks for posting this, JH! After reading Bergerud's Fire in the Sky (about the air war in the Solomons), Zaloga's Armored Thunderbolt, and one or two books about the 8th Air Force in WW II, I've grown really fascinated with the complex interplay between weapons, doctrine, and training. It doesn't look like this game deals with doctrine so much, but more detailed coverage of weapons and weapons development might be very interesting.
To be really interesting, though, the game should avoid the common pitfall of so many of those "design your own unit" games where newer always equals better and every design works out just like anticipated. I LOVE games where you have to make hard trade-off decisions between different capabilities.
Just as one example, the Sherman's 75mm AP capabilities were severely underpowered by mid-1944, with nasty implications when the Sherman ran into Panthers and Tigers in large numbers in France. However, it remained one of the best HE guns in the war--ideal for busting bunkers, strong points, pill boxes, and enemy fixed-gun positions.
A game that forces me to use what I have, and to never have everything that I want, would really be ideal. It's cool to build super-units, but the enjoyment from that only lasts about 2 minutes. The tactical puzzle-solving there is much more satisfying, and the replay value much greater as different conditions call for different solutions.
For the record...there appears to be a free demo available. Download it from the steam page linked in the OP.
I took a look at the demo
Unfortunately theres...no hints or anything. Had no friggin clue what i was lookin at.

Definitely. It does look like it has potential. O0
I can't help feeling that it is still a little one dimensional. Advanced Tactics by comparison has air and naval forces to complicate things.
Game has been released. Its only $4.99...
Waiting for some more review on this one.
Bought it at lunch. Played for a bit. No documentation or tutorials. Just throws you into a war with no explanation. Games runs rts until a battle happens, so you have to pause as soon as the map appears. Then try and make sense of the map and where your units, battalions, are and where the enemy is. Played against one enemy on a small map with 50 cities, smallest setup, on medium difficulty.
Time runs at 1 day per second. Reseaserch times are in months, training times in days and designing new vehicles takes months.
You start with about 20 battalions in the field already and a supply of infantry and tanks. Your cities make infantry weapons/supplies, log supplies, vehicles etc.
You order your battalions to move/attack by clicking on the target area/city. Battles happen when you and enemy meet. Battles are resolved instantly, no input form you, based on the Susa of your troops/tanks and the enemy. Stat report tells you what happened.
So far kinda dull and confusing... no clue how to go about making units that fight well. I guess the victory conditions are just take all the enemycities....
Maybe someday it might be more interesting.... but save yer 5 bucks for now.
Yer welcome.
Thanks, Vance - I was quite tempted by the idea of it, but maybe I'll give it a miss for now.
Hi!
I updated the game and demo as well. There is an in-game manual to explain the rules, new ceasefire system, production and training multiplier and improved UI. I fixed the majority of bugs, so the game looks solid.

Hey Polygma! Welcome to Grogheads. O0
Thanks for stopping by and letting us know there's an update. The ceasefire system sounds like a great addition.
I'll be sure to have another go with the update.
