Is this the original release in the series or one of the later add-ons?

It was the second release, after the original AJE.  Standalone, although they seem to have also created a DLC version for AJE on Steam.

I enjoyed BOR scenarios a bit more than AJE because I found the earlier Republican period more interesting due to the diversity of enemies.  You're not mostly fighting other Roman armies in civil wars (as in AJE) but hostile foreign neighbors during Rome's early expansions.  The scenarios also generally cover less of the huge map so you don't have to constantly pan/zoom across such great distances on average.

It's still just like AJE, but with different scenarios from a different period.

Almost got this just for Dead Space 2. Thought I might give DA: O and DA II to my son, whom has neither. Medal of Honor looks good, but it's not on Steam, and neither is C&C Generals.  :-\

Far Cry 4 on sale on Steam - 40% off and running at £26.99. I know that still sounds high considering it's 40% off but I could not recommend this game highly enough. There's swarms of gaming greatness in this.

ymmv - but if you like open world games with a story you can pop in and out of, some great immersive voice acting, characters and superb graphics - this is one of them.
