Title: New pc opinion...
Post by: fran on December 14, 2022, 03:54:22 PM
Hello,

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger and getting a new pc for the new year.

Please let me know your thoughts on the attached spec.

The asking price is £1,475.00/$1,834.17

What do you plan on doing with it? It will be fine for most traditional wargames, but running some AAA games might be taxing. It's a bit light on RAM and the GPU is on the low end of the last gen spectrum.

All that being said, you're talking to a guy who will use a flamethrower when someone asks for a light.

^Yeah it's weird to have that video card paired up with the lower end power supply. I would at least bump up the power supply so you could upgrade in the future.

Hi Jarhead,

Current game list Crusader Kings 3, Warno

Played the Witcher3 in the past, but not concerned about playing FPS anymore.

Would think of picking up CYBERPUNK 2077 in the Xmas sales.

Hope that helps.

Dont play flightsims, stopped playing WOWarships and WOT, may pick it up again in the future.

Gusington,

I'll ask about upping the power supply, and what it would do for the price. My current rig I had for 6 years, and did not bother doing any upgrades.

Hmm well with your preferences you should be ok moving forward, and would probably allow 6-7 good years out of the current machine without any upgrade...but if you can get at least a power supply upgrade  it would ensure you could continue playing Witcher and Cyberpunk type games for an even longer time without issue.

I personally would invest a little more and get at least 32GB Ram and maybe a 3070 if a 3080 would bankrupt you. Now is a really good time to get 3XXX gen GPUs. They are trying to unload all the excess stock now that the 4XXX's have arrived and prices are generally low.

Yeah if you can spend a little more on RAM that would make a big difference too.

...and now that I think of it, DDR4 is probably pretty cheap now too since the DDR5 is available.
