yes, yes  he was. I just watched to 1st Die Hard movie again and as a new to the US actor he just nailed the Hans Gruber character. Also I didn't realize how bad Bruce Willis's acting was in places. Granted to writing might have played into that and regardless it is still a classic action movie from the 80's
