It was hinted, they didn't "officially promise" him.
Seeing that graffiti is confirmation that they are indeed planning to have him there.

Agreed. As great as Baldwin would be at Cable (especially being able to play comedy as a nominal serious guy), the recent Last Ship series demonstrates that while he could somewhat look the part, and certainly act the part, he's probably past time now for a major action role.
Michael Shannon, though, could use some work before they inevitably bring him back into the DCU to play Darkseid. >:D
I've been watching Boardwalk Empire lately. It's given me an appreciation for Michael Shannon's acting chops. I love Baldwin, but Shannon would make a great Cable.
