Title: Earthquake in NJ/NY Area
Post by: Jarhead0331 on April 05, 2024, 09:44:02 AM
Wow! My house was shaking. At least a 4.5 - 5.0 magnitude I bet.

That was wild.

I felt it all the way here in the greater Boston area.  Was in my kitchen at the time and all our tea cans started shaking on top of the stove.

Glad you're okay.  I know about the fault line in Lake Ontario, but with magnitude 1-2 earthquakes all you really get near the 'centre of the universe' is a funny feeling.  Quite the surprise to hear about NY getting a 4.8.

How's Gus doing?

I'm at U. Of Pitt right now with my older daughter for an orientation. My office is collectively shitting themselves but everything appears to be ok, thanks Uber.

If things get bad enough, float your house to the N. shore of Lake Ontario.  I'll come and pick you up; my wife and I can always borrow a rowing shell and tow you in if necessary.  It's been a while but we could use the exercise.

Initial reports are saying a 4.8.  Hope all ye Grogs and Grog-properties are OK.  I was in VA for the 2011 quake.  They sure can rock your house.

I didn't know that area of the US was susceptible to earthquakes!

Very rare, but they do happen. Last one that I felt was about 12 years ago.

I've never felt one and my record of 0 still stands. One of my best friends in rural PA was home and said he almost shit himself today, though 💩

Just read something that when the 4.8 magnitude earthquake started in the NYC area the U.N. security council was meeting to discuss the situation in Gaza.

I guess what I find interesting is that earth quake JH felt occurred at the same moment the U.N. was meeting to discuss the situation in Gaza.

Could the earthquake have been a warning to the U.N. to watch it's step on how it handles the latest turmoil in the middle east?

I doubt think God speaks via earthquakes.

I've been through a few earthquakes, although I didn't feel that last one y'all are referring to.

When I was in San Diego a few years ago we had a minor one.  I sorta felt it, and said to my wife, "Did you feel that?  I think it was an earthquake!"  What was cool is when we looked out back, our swimming pool's water wash sloshing all over, like, well, like the earth had given our pool a really good shake.  It was very, very weird.

I'm about 10 miles from the epicenter...

But was in NC at the time. Heard it was pretty wild.
