Title: Campaign Series Middle East: Suez 1973 (Linked Campaign Game) - AAR
Post by: Jason Petho on June 18, 2016, 12:53:48 PM
With the 1.02 UPDATE getting built for release, I thought I would take some free time (HA!) and develop an After Action Report on one of the Linked Campaigns included in the Middle East game.

This is being played with the 1.02 UPDATE.

I will be playing the Suez Campaign, which puts you in command of a tank battalion in 1973 on the Sinai front. The campaign will play through a series of historical battles (not totally, as this battalion didn't see all the battles being portrayed), but will give a good idea of the different types of battles that will be experienced.

After the preview screen, I am taken to start the campaign.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen00_Turn00_001.PNG&hash=9877fade221515f0e14d7c4f7082ee48c0b495ec)

My tank battalion will be my core unit. That means that any losses incurred over the course of hte campaign will be carried over from one scenario to the other. Of course, I will have opportunity to replace some of my losses, but I may not receive enough points to replace all my losses. Obviously, taking care of my force is essential!

Let us review the battalion:

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen00_Turn00_002.PNG&hash=3cb717d22a47c653291a57ef5ecb37197dac0e41)
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen00_Turn00_003.PNG&hash=988b1cb105038de0daee003785495c80e09eadc4)

The Tank Battalion consists of a Headquarters Company (which includes some reconnassaince elements and other support weapons), three tank companies (with Sho't Kal (Centurions)) and a Mechanized Infantry company.

A decent sized force with a good mix of weapons.

After reviewing the troops, I'm off to start the campaign. Here is the first mission:

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen00_Turn00_004.PNG&hash=865a7a9f12eba0a701bbeba777d508997e61c9fc)

Commando's.

Crap.

Turn 01: Suez Campaign.

After pressing OK above, I have the options to select.  I am going with the default options.

Just a reminder, that while I am playing without Variable Visibility, if I was to play this again, I may chose that option to mix up the action a bit.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn01_001.PNG&hash=695b1214c8a59a99518737b8b8484025b32b3f0c)

Here are my initial position, the southeast of the map along the hard surface road. The battalion is spreadout and marching towards the front.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn01_002.PNG&hash=550e6570e8508851e3a8e2979607fafbda647f20)

Same view, but the 3D view of the above. You can see my headquarters company in the lead (with the reconnaissance elements), followed by the three tank companies, the mechanized infantry company in M113's and the headquarters coming up the rear.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn01_003.PNG&hash=c149483077a4b11ef75047c76f4450b168bea81c)

Here is the a 2D zoom out view of the map. The main hard surfaced road moves mostly east-west and passes through Rumani. There is an airfield on the west side of the map. There are a couple of Objective locations; one at Rumani and the other at the Airfield. Note the exit location at the southwest portion of the map.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn01_004.PNG&hash=dfc360a6f0bcf6dff9d70c7b629580c99cce23ff)

Here's a 3D view of Rumani and the location of my troops at the end of the turn. No contact yet, and that's OK.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn01_005.PNG&hash=41cbe34a62578e9b2bf1621797a07c7caf8f4e5f)

As my force consists of Sho't Kal tanks, here is how they measure up. Each company has a headquarters section of 2 tanks and three platoons of three tanks. This image is using the Unit Viewer (F3) and displaying the Weapons Range Chart for the primary weapons. You can see the gun is capable of firing out to 4 kilometres, but at that range, it isn't going to destroy much. Even still, the drop off to range is quite slow, that should give me an advantage against opposing tanks.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn01_007.PNG&hash=991705216245c019de759cb2e93ddbc5f7379338)

I also have a 120mm Self-propelled Mortar platoon (M3 Mk. D) There are four vehicles in this platoon. It is capable of indirect fire or direct fire. This platoon is found in the Headquarters Company.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn01_008.PNG&hash=4c7570f0ed0645b8838fa817b1926f012028826e)

Lastly, I have a 81mm Self-propelled Mortar platoon. There are 2 vehicles in this platoon. It is capable of indirect and direct fire. This platoon is found in the mechanized infantry company.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn01_009.PNG&hash=5bae1ac25c00bfb3f713f0f1c2ccb5f2f2b90bc9)

Scenario 01, Turn 02

The Egyptian turn went by without any action. Here are the starting positions for the turn.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn02_001.PNG&hash=b7d46994eb27b880f1ec348a41ff94c8785b583d)

As I am familair with the designer, I have decided against the obvious route along the hard surfaced road and decided to try and find the path of least resistance through the desert. Since this terrain is littered with other terrain types besides desert, I should be able to cross without too much trouble.

Unless, of course, there are commando's lurking.

Here are the positions at the end of Turn 2

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn02_002.PNG&hash=4b819fc8e72fdd95f8aaf158a65c2c54e2c77e8c)

Scenario 01, Turn 3.

My cruise through the desert continues. No contact yet, my plan seems to be working. It will be slow going, trodding through the desert, but should reduce my overall losses.

Here is the end of turn 3.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn03_001.PNG&hash=aed17d111c016e17696211f8b6c1b5705a9c8878)

Scenario 01, Turn 4.

No contact.

Here is a 2D view of the route ahead. I hope to skirt just north of the Wellington Plateau label towards HILL 42.0

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn04_001.PNG&hash=3542542594093d2c19134aa06109bacc93778d2c)

Here is a 3D view of my column. Notice  that I am leading with the tanks. If there are Commando's lurking around here, I don't want them to wipe out a platoon of infantry while loaded in the M113's, so they are bringing up the rear.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn04_002.PNG&hash=d1859be2597da0509a4b5a598d929864cf301d85)

Scenario 01, Turn 5.

Contact. Crap.

I have been ambushed by some Sagger's. I lost a Sho't Kal, forcing the rest of the platoon to retreat.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn05_001.PNG&hash=f1e0a3f6415e8b3c0372711f4fff6fbb70974560)

But since it is only one group of Sagger's, I'll risk bringing up the rest of the battalion and assault the position next turn.

Here is a 2D shot of the move.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn05_002.PNG&hash=a23d875509fba8e8511f128ea3cd13a77a6ff0f0)

Here is a 3D shot of the move.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn05_003.PNG&hash=c721c7150e5e60d242d06b85f06e9cf3e483f168)

During HAL's turn, the Sagger teams weren't as successful in their targetting, fortunately.

Scenario 01, Turn 6.

First things first, time to deal with the Sagger team.

A direct fire attack, disrupting the Sagger team.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn06_001.PNG&hash=82dce079d2bbfc2f75b7a8338e40ccf724318e6c)

Followed by an encirclement by the tank company, using two of the Sho't Kal platoons to assault the position...

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn06_002.PNG&hash=4ec7250bff554d19729181e54f38a2d2d5c0a19c)

With a happy success! (Keep in mind this is using the Extreme Assault optional rule turn on as recommended by default, so nothing is guaranteed, although one can ensure the results are in their favour with a few preparation moves)

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn06_003.PNG&hash=0d2f3a42d1d9b89fdbf7d402d99ca9067cd9a0de)

After which, the advance along the northern edge of the Wellington Plateau continues

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn06_004.PNG&hash=47b654c71d0ea27242070502a647a99bdd9bc3fc)

Scenario 01, Turn 7.

No contact. Phew!

I continued the advance across the plateau. The airfield has come into sight.

I am thinking of advancing along the hard surface road, secure the airfield and the cluster of buildings to the north of the airfield. Securing these positions will hopefully provide me Line of Sight to the rest of the hard surface road towards the exit location, allowing me a quick exit.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn07_001.PNG&hash=7ac4c5bf4ee6e9c311d1eb2cfafd18281fcd81d5)

Here is the 3D view of my column. Armour in the front still!

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn07_002.PNG&hash=2cbfd3652cbbf9f8f9ae9cbc014e5d30b5fa3373)

Scenario 01, Turn 8.

No action during Turn 7 from HAL, but as I advanced at the beginning of Turn 8, there were more Sagger's flying in my direction.

Fortunately, they missed my lead platoons.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn08_001.PNG&hash=a57ee231cc1f0acfba6fe3060a7f748a1946fb65)

Bringing up a couple of other platoons, I used Direct Fire and was fortunate enough to disrupt, reduce and eventually eliminate the Sagger Team.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn08_002.PNG&hash=0307931f2d89f1b4489f00c24da783fb92f85185)

So I cautiously advance to the edge of the north-south hard surfaced road, at Bir Abu Diyuk.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn08_003.PNG&hash=29af1d7e2a8b83f8d86a76392d80f717d01a5284)

Here is the layout, my armour preparing for the worst in a horseshoe formation.

Scenario 01, Turn 9.

Continuing the advance after reaching the road to the canal, I find myself ambushed by another Sagger team. This time I lose a Sho't Kal, causing the rest of the platoon to become disrupted.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn09_001.PNG&hash=c5a902adebf89009e276e2363d209fd7ef8aa02a)

Not being deterred, I bring up the rest of the battalion, the tanks leading the way and the mechanized infantry bringing up the rear. Here are the positions at the end of Turn 9. You can see the Exit Objective in the lower left of the map that I am eventually aiming for.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn09_002.PNG&hash=fc4f7dfdd7c85ed76997ad58b0089da4de113f94)

Here are the same positions in the 3D view.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn09_003.PNG&hash=591301dab78df7c84ea6e57aedff57395f443fc3)

Unfortunately, during HAL's turn, that Sagger team managed to hit another platoon.

Scenario 01, Turn 10.

My first move into Turn 10, I run into another ambush, which looks to be a couple RPG teams. Fortunately, their fire missed and the lead Sho't Kal's escaped unscathed.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn10_001.PNG&hash=f4920278c8b6f648068c4a991a574e681b9e1401)

A quick maneuver by the lead companies, and the RPG teams have been dispatched without additional losses to my tanks.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn10_002.PNG&hash=78f9980e31965fef46d29daa7cd4ebd07f12c44d)

I bring up the rest of the battalion into positions to give me Line of Sight onto the airfield and towards the crossroads where my mechanized infantry will most likely need to pass. You can see some Egyptian Commando's hidden in one of the villages skirting the road - they will need to be dealt with.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn10_003.PNG&hash=2d3c0a05ce73a8872f5c5fbbe9ad478f72a17ee9)

Here is the advance position in 3D. I am not expecting any forces to attack from the rear, so all my platoons are facing west.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn10_004.PNG&hash=8e035ea985db32f4b5168c0b88f1bf5007e44039)

Here are my losses so far. Three Sho't Kal's.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn10_005.PNG&hash=64c449f9cb3c205afe1ab0401b258e7f21da72b3)

And the Victory Status at this point of the scenario.

Scenario 01, Turn 11.

Continuing the advance, I dealt with the Eygptian Commando's, advancing through the airfield, securing the flank and captured the crossroads.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen01_Turn11_001.PNG&hash=3b36d140f2c15818ad9f7aaae09ed021806c7a8f)

This puts me in an excellent position to start heading for the Exit Hex at the bottom left.

Scenario 01, Turn 12.

Maneuvering the battalion towards the exit objective, including sending out a company along the rails to prevent any surprises coming from the flank.

Scenario 01, Turn 13.

You can see the results of Exiting my troops through the Exit Location. The value has changed from 0 to 476.

I have left this company just in case something comes into view.

The last turn of the first scenario in the campaign. I ended the game with 596 Victory Points which calculates as a Major Victory.

Thanks, Sir Slash!

But there are 10 more (roughly) scenarios in this Linked Campaign... so I'll be playing through them all, unless I lose, of course.

Stay tuned!

Scenario 02, Preliminary

With the Major Victory of the first scenario, I am able to continue the campaign. Before we start the next scenario, let us review the battalion. In the following images, you'll notice that I have lost two tanks from 1st and 2nd Platoon of the first tank company, and I lost a strength point from the HQ Sho't Kal of the third company.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn00_001.PNG&hash=80f2a0b15fac2ebfa0f60332c4e3aee81a886df4)

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn00_002.PNG&hash=84fe12a63974b760aea236aa51dd018f878306f4)

Fortunately, before starting the next mission, I have some replacements that I can use. You'll note that there are 4 Total Replacement Points that I can use to increase the strength of my platoons. Note that the Morale is 7 for each of the platoons prior to me adding replacements.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn00_003.PNG&hash=be9a242ad623564e3e1d00604f8935792c9ec89d)

Now my tanks are at full strength. Not the morale is reduced for each platoon. They should recover during the next scenario.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn00_004.PNG&hash=1919babb1981780471f179a53fc157c781df7513)

After pressing OK, we see what the next mission will bring.  Which looks like my tank battalion is tasked with blunting an Egyptian attack.

Scenario 02, Turn 1

The scenario loads and let's take a look and see where I will be fighting. I see the canal!

I start on the East side of the map and the majority of the Victory Locations are close by.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn01_001.PNG&hash=7e1782b1db0076766cb5c9df28de6b09c3f10611)

On the map, I start with my reconnaissance company.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn01_002.PNG&hash=c176215a3b26c9ae369243cecc569c61fe90a246)

Moving the reconnaissance company forward, I provide myself with a good Line of Sight to the main Victory Locations that I will need to secure.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn01_003.PNG&hash=303ed3b457097a38fa984eddc5b10f46f43471d2)

Scenario 02, Turn 2

Here is the situation at the end of Turn 2. A couple of Sho't Kal companies have arrived on the map, the hard surfaced road makes getting them to where I need them. I haven't spotted any Egyptians yet, so hopefully they are advancing slowly.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn02_001.PNG&hash=cfe0efb41d5e6aa815f4da9674411f444393f9f0)

Here is a slightly zoomed out shot. You can see I have plotted indirect mortar fire along the most likely avenue of advance, near the Aleket Road label.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn02_002.PNG&hash=d12f3da83621702d2d8933621c3d8a7083dc758f)

As expected, here is the present victory condition: Minor Defeat. This means I will have to destroy as many Egyptians as I can, while holding onto the Victory Locations and taking few losses.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn02_003.PNG&hash=2b12a3d3a2a68014eba599a22607e165ef7fde67)

Scenario 02, Turn 3

Here is the situation at the end of Turn 3, not too much action happened, with the exception of indirect fire by the Egyptians. My entire battalion is on the map now.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn03_001.PNG&hash=f289a1353f72b67025a2797c5fef259641e292b6)

2D view of the situation. I am advancing one Sho't Kal company up the main hard surfaced road and will head towards the 100 VP location near the west edge of the map.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn03_002.PNG&hash=40e392a4eb9ad2fd993888ede356d9f353771093)

My mortars are hitting the same place as before, although I can't see if I am hitting anything. You can see I am attempting to gain some intelligence by swinging a Sho't Kal platoon south of the marshes.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn03_003.PNG&hash=03f120269e48b337246c267ed00a5eba68f3a81a)

Scenario 02, Turn 4

The Egyptians keep hurling artillery my way, so I have been spreading out the mechanized infantry company and sent their transport out the area to reduce any chances of artillery strikes destroying my armoured personnel carriers. I will start digging in the infantry around Martef

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn04_001.PNG&hash=fd824807df37c9b67cbc4eb6b1d9865b820cf94e)

The Egyptians have secured the 100 VP locations already. I brought up another Sho't Kal company for reinforcements and I send my leader back towards the company closest to the 100 VP location for the pending attack.

Scenario 02, Turn 5

Advancing slowly towards the central 100 VP location, I run into some T-55's. Fortunately, I was able to dispatch them. My current Line of Sight reveals the Egyptians attacking with infantry along the main route.

Scenario 02, Turn 6

Here is the starting positions for Turn 6. My lone Sho't Kal platoon in the south has run into T-55's and a Sagger Team. The hard surfaced route reveals some additional Egyptian T-55's getting closer to the central 100 VP location.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn06_001.PNG&hash=5aebafeda630b72d3c501831a30ac9c35e0375e5)

At the end of my turn, I have moved both companies along the flanks of the main hard surface route. I was successful in causing one of the T-55 platoons to retreat.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn06_002.PNG&hash=6aa08e0b2dcd3427064a7878c45a17c8c0784154)

Here is a 2D view of the positions at the end of turn 6.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn06_003.PNG&hash=61eb9ed95d83ece714b6c49c07e35012afdbb908)

Reviewing the Victory Dialog, it reveals that I have destroyed 4 Strength Points worth 28 Victory Points.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn06_004.PNG&hash=58332ce6b1020c9af1064ea58d23535792395a04)

And checking the Strength Dialog, I can determine that it was Egyptian T-55A's that were lost.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn06_005.PNG&hash=e9b5761c575906b3be290f549c29d0adda849d2c)

Using the Unit Viewer (F3) that is included with the game, I set it up so I can compare both the Sho't Kal and the T-55A's and see what kind of odds I'm up against.  Based on the Hard target values below, my Sho't Kal's are significantly superior to the T-55's, at a distance. The Sho't Kal's out range them by 1750 metres.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn06_006.PNG&hash=7ca10c23bcd08899c0ac56490ad36b6288611ff6)

After hitting end turn, my northern flank move has been hit by a Sagger Team, where I lose of one my Sho't Kal's to a missile.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn06_007.PNG&hash=6ca5a228419cb6abcfb65f15bfc83bee06d66bf1)

The same happens to the southern flank. Two Sho't Kal's lost in total for Turn 6.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn06_008.PNG&hash=b8fff1b8f2de0284985f6a706e38474b123f4826)

Scenario 02, Turn 7

Here are my final positions for Turn 7. Both flanks are pulling back a hex or two to keep the advancing infantry and tanks in my Line of Sight, but hopefully stay out of Sagger range. The Egyptians have secured the center 100VP with infantry.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn07_001.PNG&hash=9dc710eba89391ce94092cfa6656cf9728e69d63)

Here is a 3D view of the northern flank. There appear to be lots of infantry and another company of T-55's headed my way.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn07_002.PNG&hash=95e466f6a2930d047bd6dea5cc8d58fa3a921205)

Scenario 02, Turn 8

Here are the final positions for Turn 8. Things are getting a bit more hectic at the moment, so I am hitting the Egyptians with direct fire and then pulling back a hex or two. Unfortunately, I lost a couple more Sho't Kal's this turn.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn08_001.PNG&hash=b7668a0e18954013d0f5235f6cb585223009da84)

Here is the northern and central sectors. Fortunately, I have been able to cause the Egyptians to retreat with Direct Fire during my turn. I will need to keep that central 100 VP location for a victory.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn08_002.PNG&hash=d2d98c1f1592b763c4c8b63e9ff78afe2dbac7b5)

The south is trending to be a tank and Sagger battle. This company is not having as much luck with Direct Fire.

Looks like you're doing pretty good Jason. Does the losses affect the enemy morale at all?
Title: Re: Campaign Series Middle East: Suez 1973 (Linked Campaign Game) - AAR
Post by: Jason Petho on July 07, 2016, 04:27:36 PM
Morale is handled on a per platoon basis. If a platoon is sustaining fire and/or taking losses, it will have to pass morale checks.

If Morale ever hits 0, the platoon is removed from the map (eliminated).

Scenario 02, Turn 9

As the Egyptians advance, I am trying to cause as many losses as I can while making sure I don't lose too many tanks. The ownership of the central 100 Victory Point location is swapping nearly every turn, while I try to keep artillery plotted on it and on the approaches. Here are the positions at the end of Turn 9.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn09_001.PNG&hash=01e3ef4eb62021947db6421f40a0d4596f97268a)

Scenario 02, Turn 10

I have lost a couple of Sho'T Kal's. Mostly in the south. Although I have managed to take and hold the central 100 Victory Point location.

Here are the losses. I have lost 7 Sho't Kal's so far in this scenario. Nearly two platoons worth. On the brightside, I have taken out 19 T-55's plus a significant amount of infantry.

Scenario 02, Turn 11

HAL has decided to be rather aggressive and send a platoon of T-55's into my rear along the rail. Fortunately, the T-55 didn't have enough Action Points to destroy my supporting mortars.

Scenario 02, Turn 12

The final turn.

While I have been slowly creeping back with the tanks of my battalion, I have still managed to secure the 100 Victory Point location in the center although I did lose another Sho't Kal in the process.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn12_001.PNG&hash=040c7b7345d6b369ea8828e448e77c2ef167a061)

Here is the central position being held by a Sho't Kal company.

During the course of the last couple turns, you can see I have managed to eliminate a number of Egyptians, in particular eight T-55's found a better home.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen02_Turn12_003.PNG&hash=1cc4d611c9f6ec7a58226982764406d80749e2b4)

I held onto my Minor Victory for the scenario, although I was just shy of a Major by 4 points.

Scenario 03, Preliminary

Before I jump into the third scenario of the campaign, let me review my battalion. The first company took a beating, losing five Sho't Kal's. The second company lost one and the third companies lost two. My infantry forces were unscathed as they didn't participate in the battle.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn00_001.PNG&hash=61c1020a8c2a5156402bbfc2deaaec4cdaffd3b4)

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn00_002.PNG&hash=cb38467144f6fc216d02c38ed50256f2e01003e0)

Fortunately, I was given a number of reinforcements so I could nearly bring my platoons up to full strength. OF course, this does negatively affect my morale at the start of the scenario for those platoons.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn00_003.PNG&hash=6441aace83a75a741fad43d5a6839ac96c37259f)

And here is the mission for the third scenario. Looks like I am going to attempt a counterattack against one of the Egyptian Bridgeheads.

Scenario 03, Turn 1

Here is the overall battle area. You can see the canal in the west and that is where the majority of the Victory Point locations are. By the looks of it, I have additional forces with me that are not my core force. My core battalion is highlighted in green.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn01_001.PNG&hash=597d2465e5d54d12ecbb4b9477c80bb477078970)

I have been given some artillery support in the form of self propelled 155mm howitzers. They have a decent range and will be good for supporting my assaults against infantry

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn01_002.PNG&hash=2ea1fea0333955e3f527dcb9ffc3a723c8c71d03)

Here is the situation at the end of Turn 3. I have decieded to combine all my forces and attack along one axis, the northern hard surfaced road. As you can see, I am bringing up the non-core forces and they will lead the advance for me, saving losses against my core force.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn01_003.PNG&hash=c875ea18e9d3a1b47a761bebf8f1b305ff4b11ca)

Here is a zoomed in view of my core force. Most are waiting patiently for the non-core forces to pass although I have sent a company forward to see what is ahead.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn01_004.PNG&hash=f1338eb714ac803bdb6d26931d01becb5978315b)

And a 3D view of the above.

Scenario 03, Turn 2

The advance continues. So far I have not run into any contact, although the Egyptians know I am coming and have lobbed some artillery my way. Here is the overview of the advance.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn02_001.PNG&hash=88a879d0bb7d0adf2bdde7fc66759e1c9ed53f24)

Same view, but zoomed in. The green highlighted units are my core battalion. I am slowly advancing the non-core units to the front althoguh I still have a tank company in the lead.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn02_002.PNG&hash=7e64e4fdec9111f244b2fd57a71e6c071d5245d3)

Here is what I mean by the Egyptians plotting artillery on my advance. Fortunately, there were no losses.

Scenario 03, Turn 3

I'm still organizing my forces for an eventual advance into the jaws of the Egyptians. You can see my column is spread out as much as I can and still be offensive in an effort to reduce any losses to the artillery that continues to rain down on my advance.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn03_001.PNG&hash=23632a3baca0efa9cf3b0008df46572cc9a68e08)

Here is a 3D view of the above. This shows a non-core infantry company joining a couple of Sho'T Kal companies as they are ready to advance. I have brought up some infantry to help look for any AT-3 Sagger teams hiding in the dunes. You can also see my artillery support has been brought up quite close (to the right of the Spontani Road label) to the front for maximum effect.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn03_002.PNG&hash=42c5c499b65913430cbaf48021a6c20f9ba02857)

Scenario 03, Turn 4

I suspect I am getting close to where the Egyptian frontline is, so I will be creeping forward a hex or two at a time until I can break into the rear. Here is the situation at the start of the turn.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn04_001.PNG&hash=27050b8996a60cfc32d610e548e360755f961092)

As mentioned, I advanced slowly, leading with infantry to hopefully spot the Egyptians in the dunes. I have plotted artillery for next turn at suspected positions.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn04_002.PNG&hash=05ef237e2859f67197da01d6c8bea86ab342b3c6)

The 2D overview of the situation. The highlighted units are my Core battalion.

As suspected, the non-core infantry has taken some initial fire from the Eygptians positions, causing a reduction and retreat.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn04_004.PNG&hash=d3cc4bfd033f60056e773791fa9b3f75324b7444)

The Egyptian fire continues and continues to disrupt the infantry probe.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn04_005.PNG&hash=309714086084e6f013c8f0949f9630fe626bc73f)

Scenario 03, Turn 5

My Line of Sight Spotting checks are revealing more and more of the Egyptian positions. It seems that this avenue of approach has a number of ambush sites that I will have to deal with. I can see that the Victory Locations near the canal are well protected with tanks and infantry. Here are the final positions for the turn.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn05_001.PNG&hash=fde996a1e36754f1b92c92001d07a8d0cdc7bde8)

Here is the 3D view of the current frontline. Most of these platoons are not my core force, so the losses they take aren't going to affect my battalion, although they do still cost me Victory Points, so I still need to be wary of my losses with them.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn05_002.PNG&hash=2f1b4a2acade6cb2ac1aece273b3aa8c836a2542)

Watching the Eygptians play, the artillery is raining down upon my frontline. The Sho't Kal was unscathed, but the infantry took a beating and retreated.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn05_003.PNG&hash=ec567b363f1922afcff182be3db02d15093ad76a)

Another artillery strike on my infantry, causing more losses and a disruption.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn05_004.PNG&hash=e48fff14f822596238c20e32f87317d6c48507bd)

Scenario 03, Turn 6

Here is the starting positions for Turn 6. I'll start advancing towards the entrenched positions, albiet it will be slow and tedious as the soft sand that flanks the road will make advancing slow.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn06_001.PNG&hash=4d62ada0d1a931b9ee28087dfe45b27c01fbdcac)

After a lot of direct fire on Egyptians I could see, I caused a few casualities and advanced a whopping 250 metres.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn06_002.PNG&hash=f71614ace7b6925f51f1a08afe3390e6a180b81f)

Here is a 3D view of the final positions. Once I get through this line of entrenchments, it should be fairly quick to advance to the canal positions.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn06_003.PNG&hash=1c1f8dc67486a53b39c897951c5b7b5b86b0e754)

During the Egyptian turn, the artillery scored a lucky hit and disabled one of my Sho't Kal's.

Scenario 03, Turn 7

Here is the end of Turn 7. I am advancing very slowly as I am focusing on causing as many casualties as I can before my mad dash towards the canal. So far, the tactic seem to be working, especially as my Sho't Kal's have effective long range fire.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn07_001.PNG&hash=27fc8b66fe16e2345835ae7d3c49c8d145b6bbcc)

Scenario 03, Turn 8

Here is the end of Turn 8. Fortunately, the Egyptian artillery hasn't been taking a toll on my advance, a few bumps and bruises, but nothing too crazy. I have lost a few non-core Sho't Kal's to missiles over the last couple turns, but I am definitely causing more casualties than receiving.  I will start pushing towards the canal next turn, as I am running out of time, with the goal of securing the three 100 Victory Point locations that are directly infront of me.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn08_001.PNG&hash=9938fab53eaef620eb5570b1246ca07053ed0947)

Here is a 3D view of the end positions. The trench and bunker position on the northern most 100 Victory Point hex will be a challenge. I may need to haul some infantry up there during my advance to ensure I have successful assaults.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn08_002.PNG&hash=d422d10711f405cf2c28847d84f26b5690bb9f41)

There are four more turns in this scenario... then (spoiler alert) I proceed onto the 4th Campaign Scenario. There are fourteen scenarios in total for this particular campaign, and the amount that you play is dependent on how well you do. I designed it so you can lose once (generally) without getting booted. Twice in a row sends you packing.

Glad you're enjoying the AAR so far! If there is anything in particular you would like to see, or have questions about, don't hesistate to ask!

Scenario 03, Turn 9

And so it begins... I have been pushing harder now, trying to eliminate as many Egyptians I could this turn while advancing. Here is the situation about halfway through the turn.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn09_001.PNG&hash=07796f0ae4bc17c52f9eb6fc2eceb74cf9e3b37f)

Here is the end of turn. I decided to go all in and unload my infantry amongst the most advanced positions. I have taken some losses while I do this, but it is time to be aggressive.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn09_002.PNG&hash=893c5dce450e485f4253a049e1c6803ba4961fbd)

Only 500 metres from the Victory Locations and still a few turns to ensure their capture. With missiles on my flank, I expect a loss or more.

Scenario 03, Turn 10

I am advancing in force to the Victory Point locations. The majority of my force in heading to the points. I have been successful in securing one and metres away from the other two. I have run into some Egyptian infantry and tanks against the canal, so the last couple of turns could be rather messy, but we shall see!

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn10_001.PNG&hash=85042ce588840a9eeedc036546eac54581fc853a)

Here is the 3D view of the end of the turn. You can see I am hopefully about getting up into the northern 100 Victory Point location with a tank heavy force. Being entrenched, the Egyptians may not give up their position so easily.

Scenario 03, Turn 11

Success! I played through the turn and have managed to secure each of the 100 Victory Point locations. This was done with a combination of direct fire to cause casualities and reducing morale before surrounding and capturing the disrupted Egyptian platoons. There are still some stragglers in the area that can cause me some losses, so while I am advancing, I am still doing so a little cautiously.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn11_001.PNG&hash=d48de1b994b4172c2d2c4eb2c7714fd825c32465)

Here is the 3D view of the end of turn 11. With the amount of tanks and infantry I have in advance elements, it is fair to say I have been successful at securing the two 100 Victory Point locations by the canal. The 100 Victory Point location in the north, on the other hand, still needs some fighting to ensure it is secure.

Scenario 03, Turn 12 - Last turn for Scenario 03

I managed to secure all of the Victory Point locations in the north and even snuck across the canal along one of the Egyptians brigdges, destrying a headquarters that I found in the village. I didn't have enough Action Points to destroy the mortar platoon I found though.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn12_001.PNG&hash=a6b9d1b9af0f7508db15c47c491cf8f17c6fd891)

Here are the final positions in 3D. Notice I spent some time ensuring that the front of my armoured units are facing the potential threats. The Egyptians still have to play, so I am not completely out of the ballpark yet.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn12_002.PNG&hash=28cee26e94ca33158146842389d68680b0b632e9)

Before pressing End Turn, I reviewed the total losses for both sides. Clearly the Egyptians had suffered a lot. I have lost 0 Sho't Kal's and a platoons worth of infantry. Expensive losses, but we shall see how that affects my core force.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn12_003.PNG&hash=4a021661cb2e350d48452fdb691b13c7b912f79c)

I also reviewed the Victory Dialog. Looks like I have secured a Major Victory by 52 points. The focusing all my available forces on the northern route strategy seems to have paid off.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn12_004.PNG&hash=c8d638463e0ded3f1920e15202da7ed8090b3419)

And now for the Eygptians final moves. They destroyed a lead Nagmash platoon.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn12_005.PNG&hash=4161e22c69c42a9dae3bd6130bc563da37179660)

Followed by reducing and disrupting some infantry.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn12_006.PNG&hash=bea3ae471ea6056e679ef45100a1ce593ecde182)

And then some more infantry. Buggers!

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen03_Turn12_007.PNG&hash=59d5454ecc2c93c5050450b875333d155ff60255)

Finally the scenario comes to an end with the final score being 516 Victory Points. Enough to maintain my Major Victory, even though the Egyptians shaved off 36 points.

Scenario 04, Preliminary

And I'm onto the fourth scenario. Before I do, time to review my command and see my losses.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn00_001.PNG&hash=9a2efdf510467ef4802fdfbf868ff2d216a0f127)

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn00_002.PNG&hash=036e6f779cbf7ff3a08fafaa39ed8841aedbd285)

After which I will start up the next mission and see what kind of replacements I receive. Looks like 7 this time! Nice!

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn00_003.PNG&hash=d34b240f239925ec1a01d7734afe9e0d393ccfe4)

I take the opportunity to increase the strength of most of my platoons. Not full strength, but mostly. Notice the impact on morale, which will recover during the course of the next scenario.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn00_004.PNG&hash=13772e66756ebb48cb235d6e7e2b2cfbded7d6b8)

Even after the last success, it looks it was only a tactical victory as my force was pulled back and I am now preparing to defend against a larger attack.

Scenario 04, Turn 01

Looks like the battle will be taking place over the same battlefield. I have my core battalion in the north (highlighted in green), with a second battalion in the south. At the NOZEL position is the Brigade headquarters and some artillery.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn01_001.PNG&hash=990c61ea15004bf80d18e241f6b74b954cca246f)

Here is my core battalion starting positions.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn01_002.PNG&hash=f7cdfdc091761e753ad425166709738d5d3bb3fe)

Here is the NOZEL position. In addition to the self-propelled artillery, it looks like I have a Cobra ATGM team.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn01_003.PNG&hash=119bcb64ad1ba33acd3d179e77ea30a4763ad77f)

Here is the information and stats related to the Cobra ATGM.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn01_004.PNG&hash=86e7db0af2c3175ba5572b7ff82570b8b270891b)

My overall strategy is going to be a mobile defence. I'll hold the line and perform a fighting retreat as required. Here is the southern mostly likely advance route for the Egyptians along the Talisman Road. I have moved up all my tank companies towards the impending attack.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn01_005.PNG&hash=076c67615a1fb0d3fc6ab8218c335554c9ec5de4)

In the north, along the other main advance route, I have taken a slightly different approach and pulled back most of my troops in order to engage the attacking force at longer range. I have also pulled my infantry back in hopes of surviving any artillery bombardments.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn01_006.PNG&hash=849154ff7878f97a7470c53ac7d3d9179fa2207f)

During the Egyptian turn, my lead Sho'T Kal's are already causing casualties for the advancing Egyptians.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn01_007.PNG&hash=61974517edf227bbd17c35061ef4fb891ae933c5)

It is essential that I destroy as much of the Egyptian attacking force as I can.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn01_008.PNG&hash=ea36af0fd02bd3be8a6a1c3ea586545f8cf2cd58)

So far, so good.

Scenario 04, Turn 02

Here is the southern advance area, along the Talisman Road. My Sho't Kal's have been successful in slowing the advance of the Egyptians and I have plotted all my artillery in suspected positions for next turn.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn02_001.PNG&hash=3b4dbe3be316a0e2a9792fd877404000e3527ab3)

A 3D zoom of the artillery plot locations and how the Egyptians ended the previous turn.

My final positions for the southern route. I plan to hold this position for a bit before falling back slowly.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn02_003.PNG&hash=1caf31de8d3868a42408c7b39b61da7f869bc449)

During the Egyptian turn, the Egyptians have found my headquarters with blind artillery fire. No Effect, fortunately.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn02_004.PNG&hash=445ccc5ef6745b794b653f2054c4425576b02ba4)

A Sho't Kal was forced to retreat from Egyptian fire.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn02_005.PNG&hash=66cdee6fc93ff9169bce8a75412419949e081be9)

Alas, they Egyptians scored a hit, causing a reduction and disruption against my lead platoons.

Scenario 04, Turn 03

The Egyptians are pushing hard along the Talisman Road. There appears to be about two battalions of tanks heading in my direction.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn03_001.PNG&hash=54a6ca9ac2cca182cfd936088b0eb4aba8084793)

In the north, a company of Egyptian tanks and some infantry are probing my position.

By the end of my turn, I have caused some fairly significant damage along the Talisman road advance.

Scenario 04, Turn 04

The start of Turn 4, the Egyptians are advancing in force in the north.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn04_001.PNG&hash=58b00c412d53f7541f9b2285a7deb3860d354bb6)

In the south, they are pushing harder with significantly more units.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn04_002.PNG&hash=b194ae94c411698edac2bf7c246f9e82b329d45d)

Scenario 04, Turn 05

The start of Turn 5, I have been notified  that received some reinforcements. Amen to that!

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn05_001.PNG&hash=086167b8c63069629f84dfdfe1eea4dc819511e7)

And here they are consisting of a tank company with some supporting infantry. They came in from the north.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn05_002.PNG&hash=9f20f1939ea23de6fdc235ea3ff41bd3cfdcf2b0)

The situation in the north is contained now that I have the reinforcements. Hopefully I can keep the Egyptians bottled and off the north-south paved road.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn05_003.PNG&hash=4646e0705d3ea43590b27cd4c17cccdf525d7f02)

The south has me shooting and pulling back. There are A LOT of Egyptians down here. My Cobra missile team has been lucky and taking out some small targets that have come into range. Unfortunately, I don't think they'll last long.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn05_004.PNG&hash=3fba4abcb5f263c58bbe88d110615958b3193f1e)

Scenario 04, Turn 06

Here is the situation at the start of Turn 6. A plethora of Egyptians here in the south, who seem to be advancing straight for the Nozel position, where my Brigade Headquarters is located.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn06_001.PNG&hash=eea4789c4eab6fa344efc44d3ff37d36f4d4d3cc)

And the situation at the start of Turn 6 in the north. This area is more contained at the moment, which I'll be thankful for.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn06_002.PNG&hash=ee52364a8c9496b85a5f6478263e5561781bfdd3)

Here is a 3D view of the Northern section at the end of my turn.  I caused quite a few casualties while only taking a couple losses.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn06_003.PNG&hash=c87fb60e21c7b05823ca5d5a5fd13b3a04f41050)

In the south, I used a lot of direct fire, pulled back a bit. I have had to pull my infantry out of the frontline at Nozel as they have been taking some heavy losses.

Scenario 04, Turn 07

Starting Turn 7, the Egyptians are still advancing towards Nozel. I am attempting to hit the advancing tanks in the flanks as they get closer, using the obscured visibility from the sand dunes to inflict damage.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn07_001.PNG&hash=3fffc579cf2e4ac35fa65bd50aa39fd38f99c5b6)

By the end of the turn, you can see I have managed to take a few of the advancing tanks out.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn07_003.PNG&hash=618b05e8383ea371f6878a136238e57c3c61e306)

In the north, the are still advancing, but things seem a bit more contained.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn07_002.PNG&hash=1f5b5a28b6eb7a6eb3aac5dbded5ba9d10922a14)

Herding tactics in the north. I am slowly advancing from the north to corral the Egyptians into a better killing zone.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn07_004.PNG&hash=345056c40717a204c31c107fc737a745d35845ff)

Scenario 04, Turn 08

End of Turn 8, more Egyptians tanks have shown up, but I am managing to hold the line in the north. A rifle platoon is swinging west to gain a better Line of Sight to the rear area units where I can hopefully plot some useful artillery strikes in the coming turns.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn08_001.PNG&hash=e9b6118af50ae375b798d5b6150e91e5378495ab)

In the south, the advance to Nozel has been stalled, with many Egyptian hulks burning. most of my losses in the south have been the infantry defending Nozel, the tanks in the area haven't suffered many casualties.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn08_002.PNG&hash=d3b8def1d18cb0b8847aeb4bbd8e6be1d15c210b)

Scenario 04, Turn 09

The situation at the beginning of Turn 9. You can see the Egyptians have managed to capture two of the Victory Location Points at the crossroads.

(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pethocarto.com%2Fdownload%2Faar_images%2Flcg%2FSuezLCG_Scen04_Turn09_001.PNG&hash=2e5f310aeb32aa862b920b5762c1cb37a8246db4)
