I fancy some armour, so why not the M4A3E8 Sherman Easy Eight

The sprues - not alot to do here...

Alot of people don't like the rubber tracks - I've never had a problem with them. I can see why individual link tracks are beneficial for vehicle with sag on the tracks (Tiger).

Two models possible - 5th Armoured Division, Germany April '45 and 4th Armoured Division, Bastogne Jan '45.
I suspect most people would automatically gravitate to the Bastogne version - so I'm going to go with the 5th Armoured Division in Germany in April '45

I might get some after market stowage to stick on the tank like this
(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4449/37516041302_49a0fc50df_b.jpg)
As for method - normally I make sections and paint them then start piecing together, however this time I
might use Andy's method (Andy's Hobby Headquarters - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChnAgeghaNKLdftbfJY8zNA) where he makes the model THEN paints it...he always does this with armour and I have to say, they always look top notch.
I'm not sure when I'll be able to complete this as my daughter wants me to setup
Star Wars:Rebellion boardgame again and that takes my modelling table away....at least until i get my BillyOh Riley shed (yep - it's a thing - and not necessarily this one)
https://www.gardenbuildingsdirect.co.uk/log-cabins/billyoh-riley-log-cabin-summerhouse
But this is the next one I'm committing to

You know, because of your posts, I've been damned close to pulling the trigger on the Tanks! game miniatures, or even Flames of War. I should probably try a larger model or two before I try to get into minis games.
I've actually been eyeing this Akagi aircraft carrier model (https://www.amazon.com/HASEGAWA-49227-Akagi-Aircraft-Carrier/dp/B00JP6NEH6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1507405665&sr=8-1&keywords=akagi+model), which is reasonably priced...
Well thanks to you I'm thinking about getting the Tanks! game! :knuppel2:
:2funny:
Well that's what we're good for 'round here is enablement, innit? ;)
The Tanks Starter Set (https://www.amazon.com/Tanks-Panther-Sherman-Starter-Board/dp/1940825873/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1507405938&sr=8-1&keywords=tanks%21+starter+set) is only $22 USD. My only issue is getting a bunch of minis I won't play with (see: X-Wing Minis, lol).
Getting there. Alot of fiddly bits, but it's going together well. After me praising rubber tracks (or at least saying I didn't mind them), these snapped and I had to staple them together.

You could leave off the turret and turn it into a Kangaroo APC.
And then he could buy a Kangaroo model and use the turret on that
He could, couldn't he?
Watching this closely JD. This kit is on my to-do list. Working on a Panther D right now and a Jagdpanther!

But I want the turret :'(
That's it built....now to the scary task of painting when it's built!!
I'm not deciding whether to keep the crewman in the tank or not, hence why the hatch isn't on yet. I'll decide when I paint him - see how he turns out.

Looking good, JD. I'm always impressed by the quality of Tamiya's casts.
Thanks
Yes - Tamiya are great models. Good moulding. Fairly simple. Fairly cheap.
And she's done and ready for war...

I actually really don't want to weather her and so I'm not going to bother. If I can find some info on "dusting" to take some of the sheen off, I might do - but otherwise, there's nothing more to be done.
Pretty as the day she left Detroit!
Looking very good .
Wish I had the patience (and talent) to do this.
I once put a Tiger II together and kept it as a reminder that I shouldn't buy any new kits.
Great job JD. :bd:
Hit that hull MG with some gunmetal :P
Nice paint job JD.
I think a lot of modellers feel the need to throw a crap ton of chipping, mud, grimy streaks, blah....blah. Modelling is TWO things.......YOUR hobby and your interpretation.
Bravo man.....bravo!! :bd:

Oh - you noticed that? I didn't actually notice it until I saw the pictures and I'd packed everything away. C:-)
Thanks everyone. I loved doing this one. Done in record time for me.
I'm not sure I'll do the "build then paint" thing again...I think I'll revert to building and painting in sections.

I like that approach too. Work on one little area, take a break and come back to another.

Nice work, JD. You really did slap that one together pretty quick and did a great job too.
One of your best I'd say
Why thank you :notworthy:
This kit annoyed me - as in the way I left it. It was far too clean and sitting on the shelf next to my Jagdpanther, it looked ridiculous.
I've been wanting to revisit it and mess it up a bit. So here it is with some Dark Dirt, mud and light dirt washes on it, let it dry and then brushed off.

Unfortunately, I seem to have not applied a clear coat when I had finished it which resulted in the liquid washes getting under the decals and taking them off. Oh well. I'm happier with it looking like this than I was like this
