So - I gave away Distant Worlds and Distant Worlds:Universe is out.
Now - I do understand I transferred the games and the keys to those games...however, the person I transferred them to cannot make use of the discount because the keys are registered in my Member Profile. That's not something I wanted - but a limitation of the Matrix system.
Now - would it be awful if I was to make use of those keys to get the discount. I KNOW I gave the game away (which was a nice thing in itself if I may say so)...and I DID purchase all 4 editions of the game...and the new owner cannot make use of the discount. So I just wondered is morally there was something wrong with this.
I will of course be asking Matrix - see what they say - just wondered what you bunch of muppets thought ;D
Actually - the discount is actually showing up for me automatically....go figure.
I wonder if I could transfer the discount link...who did I give the games to??

I see your point entirely in light of the specific situation. I think you are right to ask Matrix, and I hope that they treat your honesty with the respect it deserves. FWIW I found them pretty reasonable guys. Naturally they don't want people to rip them off, but I think they'll probably be fair to you, if you explain the circumstances. Obviously the decision is not in my gift, and it's just an impression I've formed of them.
Does the person you gave the games to want Universe? Also, were they given or sold? The game has a $10 discount that is automatic right now. You have to go the members page to get your coupon code. You could always do that and give the code to the new owner. Or you could say the coupon is your payment for giving the games away.

The person I gave the games to (I can't recall...though it was on these very forums) can't have the discount because the discount is tied to the registration of the games - that is, my account. Matrix have always allowed transference of games and keys - but not keys once they are registered.
I would think that would disqualify me - I wish it didn't - as I done someone a solid it would be nice, for a change, to have payback...having said that - I did give the games, and therefore the keys away - so I think Matrix answer would be no...though, there's nothing to stop me in terms of the mechanism on their site - because the discount is on the page ready for me...I didn't have to do anything to get it because the games are registered to me.
So I don't know. I'll ask at Matrix - if the answer is no, then it's no.
As for whether the person I gave the games to wants universe or not - that's not really my concern. It
would be if I had sold the games - but I didn't. I didn't make anything from them and so I don't "owe" anyone anything.
Whether I am able to make use, whether that is allowed or even morally right, is up to Matrix I guess.
I've always, ALWAYS been honest. All games I gave away or sold on I have always deleted the info and the game from my drive.

Matrix doesn't provide a good (or any) way to gift games. I've bought my brother several games for Christmas over the years but they are automatically added to my account so he can't register them. Like you, I don't have those games on my PC. When asking if you sold them, I just wanted to say that you might have been able to request the coupon code and then given it to the new owner so they could use it. Since they were a gift, then I don't see that as an obligation on your part.
Hopefully, Eric gets back to you by the end of the week so you can use the early buyer $10 discount.
They should only be added to your account if you are logged in. Try logging out before you purchase.

I'm the guy you gifted DW to (Thank you very much again!).
I did not get to play it too much before my gaming Win7 rig broke down so if you want to get the DW: Universe discount with a clear conscience go ahead. If need be (ie, Matrix gives you a thumbs down) I can delete the DW install files from my Dropbox folder since I can't play the game at the moment any way.
What a sweet joy it was to see the $49.99 price 'recalculate' to $9.99.
Thanks Staggerwing. I genuinely don't want the games back. I gave them away because I couldn't get using them - but now Universe is out and I had 40% off - I just wondered how it would pan out - as the game codes themselves are still on my account - through no fault of my own.
I had a reply from Erik.
He basically said it was more for me to decide than him. He did say personally if he gave games away he'd give the new owner the option to purchase the discounted version...but that's not possible because the keys are on my membership account...unless he was suggesting I offer to buy the game for the person who has them.
So - Staggerwing - in keeping with good faith, I would like to offer you Universe. I guess the only way to do this is for me to buy it with the discount and then you to have the download link and pay me the discounted price.
I see what you've written above - but in good conscience, I'd like to make that offer to you.
Let me know and I genuinely mean this - really really wouldn't have a problem if you wanted to get Universe at the discounted price...after all, really you are the new owner of the games...it's simply a quirk in the Matrix process that has made this situation (by not allowing full transference).

I think of it quite simply, you are the spent the money as the purchaser and there for are rightfully eligable for the discount. I mean that is Matrix intent right, to give a discount to those that already paid money for the series? That you gave the original license and game away at some point is irrelevant...you dropped the dough.
