Title: Number of games you own that you have not played
Post by: DV8 on May 30, 2014, 05:32:45 PM
I always find it interesting that we wargamers buy games and then never play them.  Here are the ones I own and still have yet to play.

Elder Signs (not a wargame!)
Hobbit Tales (not a wargame)
7 Wonders (not a wargame)
Memoir '44
Labyrinth
Field Commander: Rommel
Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear
D-Day Omaha Beach
Dungeon Command

So that is 9 games and yet I find myself looking at USR.  It's a sickness. :uglystupid2:

I was always like that.  I'd usually end up playing computer games but since recently getting back into some tabletops, I went a bit overboard stocking up on stuff I had wanted for awhile.

Pretty sure I have over a dozen tabletop games I've yet to play.  ;D

I always try to at least play a small part or scenario of all new games....

So far so good..... My empty wallet is helping with that too...... :P

Good Hunting.

I force myself to do a quick run through when a game arrives, could be a while until I return to it....  watching an LP or getting time to read a PDF of the rules helps that process a lot.

Probably 50+ games have yet to hit my table.  I tend to get well acquainted with a select few and return to them over and over again.

With school being over for my son for the summer, I need to get a list of games together that we would both be interested in and make it a point to get them to the table.

If you don't mind me asking, how old is our son?  My youngest is showing interest in wargames so I'm wondering when is the right age to start.

He's 15 as of last April and has been gaming with me since he was about 11 I would guess.  He just came to live with me full time about 18 months ago but before that we would tinker with Memoir '44, Heroclix, Heroscape and probably some others that I can't think of at the moment when he would come over for visitation.  We've played ASL and he's "ok" with it but it's not his favorite. He really enjoys "Up Front" (because he wins every time!) and we currently have a game of Blood Bowl on the table.

Probably his favorite though are miniatures.  We've played "Force on Force" and he enjoyed it.  He REALLY liked "Phoenix Command" because of the level of detail on every single shot taken but that is just sooooo much work to game out.  I'd love to find a system that is somewhere between Force on Force and Phoenix Command in playability and detail.  We're going to be trying out Mad Russians new gaming system next weekend, "Kontact Now" in miniatures format so we'll see how that one goes.

I decided long ago that I am more of a collector than a player.

Besides, some of the games I have just take too long to allow me to play many others.  Currently I am playing a campaign scenario of Bloody April.  With more than 20 flights and 5 or 6 dogfights happening at any given time, it takes me and my opponent about an hour per turn.  The total number of turns is about 90 for a full campaign "day".  While I love the game...it is a real time sink.  I'm too far from retirement to have enough time to play everything.

Here's my collection (I'll never play them all...sadly):

I've been lucky enough to get some board gaming done with friends each of the last 5 weekends, so the list has shrunk dramatically :

Super Dungeon Explore
Bootleggers
Eclipse

There are several more, but it's all stuff that has shown up in the past few days. That doesn't count.  ;D

KN is about to be off my list of games I've not played with others. Finally after a 25 year development period it is going to get played.

Good Hunting.

At least 30. Could be higher.

It's even worse for my PC game collection.

I don't have many games anymore, but I have played all the ones that I still own.

I should have been more clear.  I was just listing board games. ;)

No on DS2.  I did play DS for a bit but I probably only have 10-20 hrs into it.  For some reason I do not find the FPS games the appealing anymore.

Me too.  A lot of games end up in the barn pretty fast, but I think I have played all of them (even the ones in the barn) to some degree.

I thought of an exception:  Advanced Tobruk -- a game about the 82 airborne holding a bridge.  It arrived just as I was putting away Advanced Tobruk for good.  Oh and Sword of Rome and Successors.  Oh and some magazine and ziplock games.  Okay so around half-a-dozen unplayed out of say 30 games.  Yikes!  20% unplayed!
