My DOW2 has been crippled since the move to windows 8. Steam says I have to contact the publisher then gives a SEGA global directory which is useless. They have washed their hands of any 3rd party game. Their forum shows that the problem is with Games for Windows live. I set it to Win 7 compatibility, now the game starts. The game will not let me in to the campaign or an AI skirmish game without logging in to Windows Live. I go through the bullshit of creating a live account so that I can play the game, then it still wont work. Some network "incompatibility".
These companies are all such a bunch of controlling blowhards. They lock you out of your purchase years after, with problems you could not have forseen at the time of the purchase decision. Do not buy any game that requires an online connection. They will screw you later on.
Didn't they just patch all the Dow games on steam this past week to move it off gfwl to steam?
According to various sources (including Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-08-20-games-for-windows-live-is-ending-for-good-in-july-2014)), "Games for Windows Live will be discontinued on July 1, 2014...."
Did they? WH40k soulstorm ran an update recently. DoW2 did not update at the same time. Steam is in offline mode so I will try again later. I do not have much faith in them considering they just directed all their users to a global list of contact web addresses.

It should be happening in the near future if it hasn't.
People should also be aware that every time they run Steam it goes into their firewall creating inbound connections to itself and the executable of any game it updates. Whatever code is on those executables can connect to servers on the net without your knowledge. Who do they think they are opening up everyone's firewalls?
Any virus that attaches itself to one of those executables has free communication to the net. For all you know it is a legit file. I always delete the incoming connections with no adverse effects. The games run. Steam runs. There is no explanation of why it goes into your advanced firewall settings.
One good example of the problems such draconian DRM can cause.
Need to get all publishers to ditch this kind of BS.

I've seen some updates recently for the DOW/DOW2 games and knew it was getting rid of GFWL. But we still have to opt into a beta for this to actually be the case?? ???
