Title: Unpublished WWI photos
Post by: MetalDog on June 30, 2014, 07:30:25 PM
I looked through all 14 of them.  Only one has subject matter that might upset the delicately inclined.  It shows dead British soldiers around a machine gun nest.  The rest are mostly just people and places.  Besides, it's WWI and Gus will SURELY look at them just because.

Thanks, guys.  What did you think about that Italian artillery?  Pretty freaky looking to me.

It certainly looked Italian.

The pic of the U-Boat and the sinking merchant ship, with smoke still coming from the nearly submerged stack, was eerie.

That Italian artillery was weird looking. I had never seen any like that.

Found a site that has similar looking artillery.  Looks like it may be an Obice da 305/17 G. Mod. 1917 howitzer.

Glad you guys liked them.  My favorite was the group photo of the German airmen.  The one with his hand stuck in his jacket like Napoleon just cracked me up.  :)

In the photo of British dead, it looks like some of the dead are missing their boots. I imagine a decent pair  boots were a valuable item in all that mud.
