I am a bit tired of WWII games, but this sounds like a good wargame in the making:

QuoteChain of Command Announced
Indie developer BitBunch announces Chain of Command, a World War II real-time strategy game coming to Windows PCs, though a release date is not yet specified. There are details along with some concept art on the BitBunch website, where they are also accepting signups from those interested in the project. Here's word:
Change the course of history!
In Chain of Command the player assumes command of large bodies of troops and directs them to victory. Battle plans can be drawn directly on the historically accurate maps and troops will execute these to the best of their abilities. Players need to adapt their plans as the situation changes due to enemy action, unexpected changes in weather, the supply situation or to improve their lines of communication. Based on their battle performance, players can get promoted to higher ranks, greater control and the chance to change the course of history!
Features
Chain of Command features a revolutionary control system based on the command hierarchy used in actual armies. This system allows players to effectively manage large amounts of troops by giving orders at different levels in the hierarchy. Maps are geographically accurate representations of the battlefields in World War II, created using data from actual maps of the time. The detailed simulated environment in Chain of Command includes dynamic weather, logistics and communication. Units are controlled by an advanced AI system, making
them react realistically to changing battlefield conditions, freeing the player from micromanagement and allowing them to focus on higher level strategy.
The idea of drawing a plan on a map is something I have wanted to see for years. I was always amazed that considering so many wargames use maps with arrows as part of their promotional artwork that no one has thought of actually making a game like that!

I like this idea too.
The concept sounds good, hope they can pull it off.
Sounds interesting..similar to Command Ops. Always worry about realtime games though. Then again Command Ops, Graviteam Tactics and the recent Ultimate General have shown I can enjoy an RTS game.

I am not ashamed to say I straight up stole homaged that line for Book 3...
Would you trust a wargame with an image of a tank that looks like a Panther (with a puny gun) but with a US star?
What if it was this Panther?

Still, I know what you mean. :P
Did you catch the Renault FT-17s in the background?

Don't you just hate it when CoD and MoW players refuse to use proper equipment and pick up whatever German gear is lying around? Sigh...

There is an element of truth to that. John Howard, company commander of D Coy Ox and Bucks, 6th Parachute Division said that after a few weeks in Normandy most of his guys had adopted Schmeisser MP40's, and MG42's in addition to their issued kit. See Pegasus Bridge by Stephen Ambrose. It should also be noted it was common German, and Finnish practise to do the same, especially with Russian kit.
Hi there,
I'm George, one of the developers of Chain of Command. It's been almost a year since we announced the game (as you can see by the age of this thread) and we have been working hard on the game. Recently we've published a new development blog entry (http://bitbunch.eu/dev-blog-5-world-enough/) about the system that produces the maps for the game. We are curious to find out what you think of this approach, so feel free to comment on it, or ask questions.
Cheers
Welcome to Grogheads George. Keep us updated.
That was quite an amazing 3 minute + video attached to the link to your blog about the game. Amazing to watch. Looking forward to seeing how you apply a game to it.
The topic of our next blog post is to show the unit simulation running on top of the 3D map. A sneak peak of what your orders could look like can be seen here (https://gallery.mailchimp.com/380ec9c3f4077bc3d8a7827fd/images/cc7eb8f8-c6d1-4663-b1fc-b8748c162a98.jpg). The red-bordered arrow shows the order of the parent unit, the blue ones are detailed orders for its subordinates. The green arrow on the right shows the order for a neighboring unit.
Very cool from a technical perspective. I also like the concept.
If you had a development team the size of Rockstar, you could make a game where you issue orders to divisions and watch the battles on any scale!
I'm very excited about this project. Great idea for a game.
Thank you for gracing our forums Mr. Venrooij! One question I have for the developers: Is there going to be an economy and production/manufacturing element to the game as well?

Issuing orders to divisions and watching the battles at various scales is the core idea behind the game's design, so that's actually where we are heading with this. We don't think we need a team the size of Rockstar to pull that off ;)

We currently have no plans to include economy or production into Chain of Command. The game will focus on commanding units in the major battles of World War 2 and the troops will already be there when the battle starts in their historical positions.
Btw: thanks everyone for the nice welcome :)
We interviewed the developer over at Tactical Wargames. You'll have to scroll down abit to get to it.
