Title: World War II Europe Screenshots
Post by: spelk on April 16, 2012, 02:47:29 AM
Ron Dockal posted links to his new operational wargame WWIIE over at WG, so I thought I'd pass them along here:

This game is a refinement of his gaming engine and a combination of two of his earlier games, namely, Russo-German War (RGW) and Anglo-German War (AGW).

He's still in the development phase, so he would welcome comments on these first screenshots, the WG thread is here:

I know he's also having problems getting all the name information together for Russian commanders, if anyone has any expertise in finding this info, I'm sure he'd be most grateful for the help.

The screenies look great. I wonder how this new iteration will compare to GG's War in the East. I've held off on that one due
to price.

This is probably my most anticipated game of the year (I believe it is hoped to be released by the end of this year...)!   I love that there are clearer unit names/identifiers now...I am sucker for a good map and Rons games have great maps.   Ron is probably one of the most responsive devs you will find, which is also a bonus.  Reading the thread over at the Wargamer it looks like all my quibles with AGW will be resolved with WWII-Europe.

What issues do you have with AGW? I'm very new to the game so I'm curious. I had held off from buying it because
of the upcoming game but recently got a deal I couldn't beat and took the plunge.

The major thing for me is lack of unit info...you have what is on the chit and that is it.  I like unit names, leaders, etc.  I find it more immersive to have that info.   The interface is...a...well...er...interesting.  Things that trip up newbs like having a phase and step buttons and not knowing what to press when playing the AI (er..CO) (if not using the auto-phase).  Getting a poorly explained AI file requester at the start of games.   The interface is OK after getting used to it, but the unit selection, viewing, etc. still messes me up occasionally with its non-standardness.   AGW is still an excellent game and worth a purchase.   Looks like Ron has worked a bit on that for World War II Europe.

How is the AI?
